Seduced the Obsessive NPC and Ran - chapter 14
The Summer Villa was built halfway up the mountain.
The driver took Yan Jinge and Yan Wei up the winding mountain road. Before long, several buildings came into view, most of them concealed by dense woods.
The parts that showed-upturned eaves and all-looked pleasantly old-fashioned.
Yan Wei had been explaining to Yan Jinge who owned the villa-Uncle Liu-when he noticed Yan Jinge’s distracted expression and couldn’t help asking, “Why do you look so out of it?”
Yan Jinge’s brows knit slightly. He lowered his head to glance at his phone again before saying, “I’ve tried several times to set up a meeting with President Bai from Nirvana, but he’s never shown up.”
Yan Wei didn’t think much of it. “The boss of Nirvana is always coming and going like a ghost. Forget you-even I’ve never seen him. A lot of the company’s decisions are made by him, but every time it’s his secretary who comes out to handle things. That secretary’s practically become their company’s spokesperson. Still, the man’s got a good eye-the secretary’s genuinely capable.”
“Mm.” Yan Jinge made a sound of acknowledgment. “It just feels a little strange.”
Their circle still ran on drinking culture.
The two companies were already partners, and the concessions President Bai had made in the contract were essentially him doing Yan Jinge a favor. To express his thanks, Yan Jinge naturally had to invite the man out for a meal.
He had invited President Bai again and again, but President Bai hadn’t accepted a single time.
Refusing once or twice could be chalked up to being busy. But to push him off repeatedly-now that was odd.
Yan Wei patted the back of Yan Jinge’s hand. “Don’t overthink it. Isn’t the contract already signed? We’re almost there. When you see your Uncle Liu in a bit, remember to greet him properly.”
“Got it,” Yan Jinge replied.
The car drove straight into the Summer Villa.
The two of them got out.
Yan Wei led him inside. Right past the entrance was a small garden; after they passed through a moon gate, the space suddenly opened up.
A middle-aged man was waiting. When he saw them, he walked over quickly and enthusiastically shook Yan Wei’s hand. “Yo, isn’t this President Yan? Long time no see-you’re looking even younger these days. Dropping by my humble place all of a sudden, you really bring glory to my shabby little abode.”
He spoke with a wide grin and a teasing tone, even waggling his eyebrows at Yan Wei when he finished.
Yan Wei was clearly very close with him and burst out laughing, shaking his hand as he said, “You’re still so slick-tongued. We’ve only just met and you’re already making fun of me.”
While they were talking, the middle-aged man looked over at Yan Jinge.
Yan Jinge gave a slight nod and called out, “Hello, Uncle Liu.”
“So you’re Jinge?” Uncle Liu said with a smile. “Your dad talks about you all the time.”
Yan Jinge’s eyes curved. “Since Dad’s close with you, he must always be complaining about the things I do that make him mad.”
“Hahaha.”
Uncle Liu didn’t bother denying it. After all, what had happened before with Yan Jinge and Bai Wei had caused quite a stir in their circle. During that period, everyone had even started keeping a closer eye on their own sons, afraid their kids would follow Yan Jinge’s example.
But judging from today, it looked like father and son had made up.
Had Yan Wei accepted that Yan Jinge and Bai Wei were together?
Or had Yan Jinge and Bai Wei broken up?
Uncle Liu turned these questions over in his mind but didn’t ask aloud. He just turned and said, “Come with me. I heard early this morning that you two were coming, so I set aside rooms for you. We can go play golf this afternoon, and tonight you can soak in the outdoor hot spring-it’s all natural.”
Yan Wei agreed repeatedly.
He turned his head, about to ask what Yan Jinge wanted to do, but saw the boy’s lack of enthusiasm. So he said instead, “Kids can’t keep up with us anyway. Why don’t we let Jinge find his own fun? Old Liu, we haven’t seen each other in ages. You have to play a round of chess with me today.”
“Come on, come on.”
Yan Jinge truly had no interest in their activities, so he took the opportunity to say goodbye to the two elders.
The Summer Villa was quite large. There were sightseeing carts parked by the paths, with a map beside them.
Yan Jinge walked over and studied it for a moment.
Probably to live up to the idea of a mountain embracing water, they’d even built a small artificial lake here. Yan Jinge hopped onto a sightseeing cart and took a lap around the lake, spotting a few scattered people enjoying themselves inside the villa.
They were probably all people Uncle Liu knew.
Yan Jinge didn’t pay them any attention.
When evening came and the temperature outside dropped, he took a towel and went to soak in the hot spring.
The hot spring was directly connected to his room. He just had to open the back door and walk down a long corridor to reach it.
The way there was lit only by a line of ground lights. They were pretty to look at, but didn’t actually do much to brighten the path. Standing at the edge of the hot spring pool, Yan Jinge tested the water temperature, then slowly eased himself in.
It was quiet all around. Now and then he could hear bursts of hearty laughter coming from other rooms.
Yan Jinge leaned comfortably back against a rock.
There were hardly any stars tonight; only a slim crescent moon lay gently across the surface of the spring.
The warm water came up to his chest. As all the pores of his body gradually relaxed, drowsiness began to creep over him.
Just then, he suddenly heard a faint splash. He opened his eyes, only to see the crescent moon in front of him suddenly ripple, breaking into scattered fragments of light.
He froze.
He hadn’t moved at all.
Realizing something, he instinctively edged back a bit.
The next second, there was a loud splash as a head broke the surface of the water-not far from him!
“!!!”
What the hell-
His body reacted faster than his brain. Moving with sharp speed, he surged up out of the spring and, in less than two seconds, was already crouched warily at the edge of the pool, staring into the water.
The man wiped the droplets from his face, revealing a smooth forehead. He turned his head and, in the moonlight, a familiar face came into view.
Bai Cheng.
“…”
Fuck.
Yan Jinge suddenly remembered that rainy day back when he’d first come to this world-Bai Cheng had stood in the darkness of the room and scared the hell out of him then, too. Was this guy taking revenge for what the original host had done, for bringing people to mess with him?
Yan Jinge stared at Bai Cheng with a blank expression.
Bai Cheng looked up and finally noticed Yan Jinge. He paused, as if he’d only just realized there was another person here.
He blinked once.
Water droplets rolled down, landing on his face, then sliding along his cheeks.
The look in his eyes had already made Yan Jinge uncomfortable before.
Now it turned sharp as a blade, raking over Yan Jinge’s body inch by inch.
Yan Jinge frowned.
That stare made his skin crawl.
He lifted a hand and splashed him with water. “Are you sick or something?”
The hot spring water slapped across Bai Cheng’s face.
But Bai Cheng didn’t dodge.
He didn’t even close his eyes.
His Adam’s apple moved.
He let out a scornful chuckle and threw the question back at him. “Whether I’m sick or not-don’t you already know?”
After speaking, Bai Cheng turned around.
He put his back to Yan Jinge.
Then he sank into the water again.
He could clearly hold his breath for a long time.
And with the lighting around them so dim, the moment he went under, Yan Jinge couldn’t see him at all.
Yan Jinge felt both irritated and amused.
This mountain resort’s hot springs were all natural.
To avoid ruining the environment, they hadn’t excavated many pools.
Before Yan Jinge came, the auntie who delivered the towels had told him that the springs were shared-one spring for two or three rooms lined up side by side.
When Yan Jinge arrived, though, it had been quiet.
So quiet that he’d assumed no one was here.
Who would’ve thought there was already a person inside?
Still…
When Bai Cheng had surfaced earlier and saw him, there had been a hint of dazed confusion in his eyes.
It didn’t seem like he’d done it on purpose.
Yan Jinge wasn’t about to pick a fight with a junior over something so small.
Especially since, back then, the original owner of this body had even gone out of his way to mess with the other party.
Yan Jinge slid back into the hot spring.
He lifted his foot.
And gently kicked Bai Cheng underwater.
With a loud splash, Bai Cheng shot up from the water.
He turned his head and glared at Yan Jinge.
That look was practically feral-like he wanted to peel Yan Jinge alive and swallow him whole.
Yan Jinge wasn’t scared in the slightest. “Why are you here?”
Bai Cheng snapped, “So you’re allowed to come, but I’m not?”
Yan Jinge blinked. “That’s not what I mean. It’s just… what a coincidence.”
This world was basically a newbie village.
The map wasn’t particularly large.
But that didn’t mean you’d just run into NPCs at random.
Take everyone else, for example.
Yan Jinge had barely seen anyone at all.
Besides, Yan Jinge’s mission here was to help the original spouse slap faces and crush scum.
If there was going to be a ‘coincidence,’ it should’ve been him running into Bai Wei.
Or running into Bai Wei’s mistress.
Or his second mistress.
Or his third.
Fourth.
Fifth.
Sixth.
Yet the one he ran into was Bai Cheng.
That was… strange.
Could it be-
Did Bai Cheng and Bai Wei actually have some kind of special relationship?
Yan Jinge’s brain abruptly wandered into content Jinjiang wouldn’t allow.
His pupils practically shook in shock.
Bai Cheng, of course, had no idea what Yan Jinge was thinking.
He stared at Yan Jinge’s face for a while.
Then his expression darkened.
He said coldly, “Yeah. Quite a coincidence. Makes me wonder if you’re following me.”
Yan Jinge was completely baffled. “Why would I follow you?”
When you couldn’t see eye to eye, there was no point talking.
That little interruption killed Yan Jinge’s mood for soaking.
He didn’t even bother saying goodbye.
He simply got up and went straight back to his room.
He took a shower.
Then he lay down early and went to sleep.
The next day, Yan Wei invited Yan Jinge to go hiking.
Not until they headed home in the afternoon did Yan Jinge see Bai Cheng again.
Monday came.
Time for work.
As soon as Yan Jinge arrived at the entrance of the company, he looked out through the car window.
He saw more than a dozen people clustered at the front gate.
They were all wearing colorful plaid shirts.
Most of them were dragging suitcases.
They didn’t look like they were here to work.
They looked like people showing up to rent an apartment.
Employees of Yan Corporation who were coming in to clock in all found it novel.
As they passed by, they couldn’t help sneaking glances at the group.
The group didn’t look the least bit shy.
They just stood there, letting everyone stare.
Yan Jinge immediately signaled the driver to stop.
The moment the dozen-plus people saw Yan Jinge get out of the car, all of their eyes lit up.
One of them even sprinted straight over.
He grabbed one of Yan Jinge’s hands.
His eyes went red, brimming with tears, as he cried out, “President Yan!”
This man was Su Liang.
Back when he was at Rongding, he’d been the manager of the technical department.
Yan Jinge reached out and gave him a firm handshake. “Brother, what is this-fleeing as refugees?”
Su Liang froze.
For some reason, he felt like President Yan’s personality had changed a bit.
In the past, President Yan definitely wouldn’t have responded like that.
But that wasn’t a problem.
A boss who could banter back was an even better boss.
Su Liang spoke with deep emotion: “…Isn’t that exactly it? We finally escaped from the refugee camp alive! So, to welcome our new life, we didn’t waste a second-we packed ourselves up and delivered ourselves straight to Yan Corporation. Ahem, you know how it is. The office is our second home. We’ve got way too much stuff, so we didn’t even go home. We just dragged our suitcases over, planning to settle in first.”
Yan Jinge nodded. “That’s… convenient.”
“Right?” Su Liang said quickly. “And you said on WeChat that you’d already cleared out space for us? President Yan, you move fast.”
Yan Jinge’s lips curved. “It just worked out. Since you were coming, I figured we should at least leave Rongding some employees. So I let some people go to Rongding-otherwise Rongding might say we didn’t contribute a single hair.”
Su Liang: “…”
Looking at the gentle smile on Yan Jinge’s face, Su Liang couldn’t help feeling suspicious.
Was President Yan still playing the ‘big bad wolf in sheep’s clothing’ here?
Back then, President Yan had even deliberately found someone to pull them into some little Rongding group chat.
Then, anonymously, he’d fanned the flames.
He’d said that as long as Rongding paid a high price to poach Yan Corporation’s technical staff, Yan Corporation would be finished.
Bai Wei heard that rumor through a few intermediaries.
He slapped his forehead and thought, Yeah, that’s true.
So he told HR to go make contact.
Wasn’t everything that happened now exactly the script Yan Jinge had written?
Author’s Note:
Yan Jinge kicked Bai Cheng, who was under the hot spring water.
Bai Cheng choked and died. The End. [old man on the subway staring at his phone.jpg]
