Su Liang called the others over. A dozen people moved in a noisy little procession, following Yan Jinge upstairs to drop off their luggage.

Yan Jinge walked in front, like a father hen leading a trail of chicks.

As soon as they reached the floor, he gathered everyone together and took out the contracts he’d already prepared, one for each person. “Same deal as back at Rongding. This one’s with me personally. The terms are basically the same, just a few tweaks in the details. Read it carefully. If you have any questions, just ask me directly.”

None of them were signing for the first time; they all understood the drill.

After they finished reading and had no objections, everyone signed. Then Yan Jinge stood up and led them over to HR to complete the onboarding formalities.

The HR girl had been secretly watching a drama on her phone. When people walked in, she was completely stunned.

-After so many people left the technical department where Yan Jinge used to work, everyone in the company had been wondering how Manager Yan was going to fill all those vacancies.

Some guessed he’d probably go headhunting with big money, but with the time constraints, there was no way he could pull enough people together so quickly.

More people thought that as a parachuted manager with not much experience, he’d most likely cling to President Yan’s thigh, reassign people from other departments just to muddle through the cooperation with Nirvana first, and then slowly search for talent later.

No one expected that they were all completely wrong!!!

Just like that, easy as breathing, Yan Jinge had filled the vacancies of the dozen or so people who left!!!

And these people…

HR couldn’t help double‑checking the documents again.

On all their résumés, under work experience, the past two years were all listed as Rongding. A few of them could even be matched to those Rongding “big shot” accounts on Weibo with several million followers.

Her jaw dropped.

Manager Yan went back to Rongding once and came back with a bunch of Rongding employees in tow?

This was too unbelievable!

She couldn’t help turning her head to look.

The way they were standing said a lot, and it said it very clearly.

-Even though Yan Jinge’s posture was relaxed, everyone around him clustered close like stars around the moon. One look and you could tell he was the leader of this group. The person standing closest to him was named Su Liang, former technical department manager at Rongding. After coming to Yan Corporation, he was starting again as a regular employee, and right now he’d completely dropped his image, pouring out his grievances to Yan Jinge.

Standing off to the side was the product manager, chiming in with Su Liang’s complaints and nodding repeatedly.

Yan Jinge only replied with a sentence or two from time to time, offering comfort: “It’s fine. It’s not like you only found out about his personality yesterday.”

Watching this warm, father‑and‑children scene, HR felt a little dazed.

…Like she’d wandered into a dream.

And waking up from it was still terrifying.

She remembered that when Manager Yan had first parachuted in, a lot of employees thought he’d only gotten the position because of his relationship with President Yan, and that he didn’t have any real skills.

But now, it didn’t seem that way at all…

Yan Jinge was seriously badass. He’d actually poached Rongding’s tech team!

He had to have been a mole Yan Corporation planted in Rongding from the start, right???

After sending off Yan Jinge and the others, HR leaned against the wall and muttered, “I think I just found out something I really shouldn’t know…”

The news that more than a dozen new employees had joined the technical department-despite there being no open recruitment-spread through the company in no time.

When people couldn’t get anything useful out of HR, they all assumed these were just folks job‑hopping over from some small companies.

Nobody had high expectations for them.

“So what if the tech department’s fully staffed again? This batch just joined. There’s no way they’re on par with the previous technical team, right?”

“Of course not. Those guys before were talents the company spent a lot of money training. They even sent them abroad for further study last year. But now Yan Corporation is… sigh, everyone’s on edge.”

“There are more and more rumors in the company. Don’t even know what’s true anymore. Didn’t they say before that the company was going to transform? I was so anxious back then I couldn’t eat or sleep, just scared I’d get laid off one day.”

“What can you do? The market really is rough right now.”

“There are more and more companies in this line of work. If Yan Corporation doesn’t keep up, it’s only a matter of time before it’s eliminated by the times.”

“Not to jinx it, but I feel like the only way now is if they manage to poach those big shots from Rongding-the tech leads, product leads, all of them. Only then might Yan Corporation have a chance of coming back from the dead.”

“Hahaha, keep dreaming. Rongding treats them like treasure. If they actually got poached, that’d be a sign the world’s ending.”

Similar comments eventually reached the ears of Yan Jinge and the newly onboarded employees.

They shared a look and smiled without a word.

The morning passed in a flash.

After lunch, Yan Jinge tapped on the table. “Everyone, meeting time.”

The people who stood up clearly fell into two groups.

One group was the six remaining old employees like Liu Tian.

The other was the newcomers.

The two sides hadn’t officially talked yet. They only knew they’d be working together from now on.

Once everyone was seated, Yan Jinge went straight to the point: “Start by giving a brief self‑introduction so you can get to know each other. After that, we’ll move on to discussing the project.”

“Sure.”

Su Liang agreed readily, lifted his hand in a natural gesture, and gave the six people opposite a friendly smile. “Hello, I’m Su Liang, former technical manager at Rongding Technology. We’ll be colleagues from now on, so please take care of me.”

“Hou Fang, former product manager at Rongding.”

“Hello, I’m…”

Sitting across from Su Liang, Liu Tian listened to their introductions in a daze.

Who?

Rongding Technology’s technical manager?

Product manager??

All of them came from Rongding???

Did she hear that right?

Rumor had it that these people weren’t just strong in ability, they were quick on the uptake and full of ideas. Tons of companies had practically beaten each other bloody trying to poach Rongding’s tech and product people. And just this morning, before today, Liu Tian and the others had still been sighing in despair, wondering what they were going to do with only six people left in the department.
They’d originally been at two completely different extremes, yet in the blink of an eye, that god-tier figure had actually become their colleague!?

What kind of fantasy plot development was this!

Liu Tian couldn’t help turning her head to look at Yan Jinge, only to see his expression calm and indifferent, as if he’d long since anticipated exactly what would happen today.

She suddenly recalled how, when those employees had wanted to quit before, Yan Jinge hadn’t tried to stop them at all. He’d even been very supportive, giving off a clear vibe of “finish the handover quickly and free up your seat.” Her palms couldn’t help but grow damp with sweat.

It was like…

Like, just because she was a sucker for a pretty face for one impulsive moment… she’d ended up making a very correct decision?

The long string of introductions also gave the six newcomers some time to digest everything.

Standing at the head of the table, Yan Jinge waited until the last person finished speaking. He nodded. “From now on, we’re all colleagues. I hope we can get along peacefully and make progress together. Next, let’s talk about the projects currently on our plate…”

By the time the meeting ended, three to four hours had already passed.

The team members walked out brimming with energy and went back to their workstations.

Remembering something, Yan Jinge stepped out and said, “Oh, right-after work, if you’re free, stick around. I’ll take you all out for a celebratory dinner for the project kickoff. You can start a group chat and discuss what you want to eat.”

“Okay!”

In the end, they decided on hotpot for the team dinner. Six people to a table, four tables in total; the atmosphere was lively and rowdy.

After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, spirits were running high, and someone suggested going to sing.

Yan Jinge directly picked the biggest KTV in the city. Who knew that the moment they arrived at the entrance, they would run straight into another group.

-Bai Wei, along with several managers and directors, plus a few employees who had jumped ship from Yan Corporation to newly join Rongding, had also come!

The two groups met face to face. Recognizing their former colleagues, everyone froze.

In an instant, a suffocating awkwardness spread.

Yan Jinge, on the other hand, was completely unaffected. He asked in mild puzzlement, “Why are you all just standing there like posts?”

“Come on, our Manager Yan has VIP here.”

Hou Fang slung an arm around Liu Tian’s shoulders and led her inside.

Liu Tian lowered her head as she passed by Lin Xiaoxu and Sister Wang, not greeting them.

Su Liang followed right behind. As he walked past Bai Wei, he shot him a glance and drawled in a mockingly yin-yang tone, “Running into each other isn’t scary. It’s only awkward for whoever’s got a guilty conscience.”

Standing at the very front of the Rongding group, Bai Wei’s lips moved slightly. His eyes were fixed on Yan Jinge, staring straight at him, bloodshot and blazing.

Yan Jinge frowned.

He pretended not to see and kept walking, but he couldn’t help thinking to himself, No wonder that kid always looks at me like I give him the creeps-turns out he learned it from his dear big brother.

Tsk.

Of all the things to learn, he just had to pick this.

Ought to be smacked.

“Yan Jinge!”

Right as Yan Jinge took two steps, Bai Wei suddenly called out.

His voice was ice-cold, and he spoke in a tone of absolute certainty. “You did it on purpose. You knew I was cheating on you long ago, but you kept quiet all this time. Watching me clown around like some jumping clown-made you very happy, didn’t it?”

Yan Jinge turned back to look at him in surprise, not understanding how he’d arrived at that conclusion.

Back then, the original Yan had known everything yet chose to endure in silence, simply because he’d invested too much and his feelings ran too deep. He’d already fallen all the way in and couldn’t turn back; all he could do was blindly hope the scumbag would repent and come back.

But none of that was anything Yan Jinge was obligated to explain to Bai Wei.

He simply shook his head. “You’re overthinking it.” Then he continued forward.

Who would’ve thought Bai Wei would keep trailing after him, refusing to let it go.

The secretaries and others were stunned and wanted to step up to pull Bai Wei back, but he snapped, “Get lost!”

A few employees’ faces immediately turned ugly.

Bai Wei was like a man possessed, speaking only to Yan Jinge. “You’ve been planning for this day since back then, haven’t you? Makes sense. You’re an heir to Yan Group-how could you possibly have been sincere with me? And I was blind enough to always believe you.”

“Same with the contract.”

“You deliberately provoked me, when in fact you’d already tampered with the contract to force me to sign. Then later you sicced a team of lawyers on me to collect the debt. You were my secretary for two years-you clearly knew that during that period I didn’t have any cash on hand and had to wait for the company’s quarterly settlement and dividends.”

“You did it on purpose. You must have done it on purpose! You were going out of your way to make things hard for me!”

The more he spoke, the more resentment piled up in Bai Wei’s chest.

His temper had always been volatile, and with everything that had happened recently stacking on top of each other, if he hadn’t seen Yan Jinge, it might’ve been one thing. But now that they were face to face, and the other man didn’t even spare him a glance-as if… as if he didn’t exist at all-Bai Wei’s anger bar instantly shot to the max.

No.

Deep down, Bai Wei felt that the current Yan Jinge was all wrong.

Yan Jinge was supposed to be just like before-only able to look up to him from below, squatting at his feet like a dog.

Burning with rage, Bai Wei stared at the still largely indifferent Yan Jinge and finally couldn’t hold back. He reached out to grab Yan Jinge’s arm, but Yan Jinge suddenly swung his hand.

He slapped Bai Wei’s hand away in one motion, frowning in disgust. “Don’t touch me.”

Before Bai Wei could get a word out, Su Liang and the others, who had gone on ahead, hurried back over and moved to shield Yan Jinge.

Standing among his people, Yan Jinge looked at Bai Wei coolly.

He spoke from above, looking down. “Bai Wei, you really are something else.”

“You cheated first. I didn’t even call you filthy, yet somehow it’s my fault I didn’t rush to blame and hate you. You were the one who signed the contract. I told you to read it-you refused to look and just scrawled your signature, and now you say I set you up on purpose. You claim I knew when you’d have money and deliberately sent a lawyer team early to pressure you… You think creditors collecting a debt are supposed to care about your schedule? You think your creditor is your mommy?”

“President Bai, if you’ve got time, you should really read more books. Don’t just sit around imagining the whole world revolves around you-that everyone either wants to curry favor with you or wants to harm you. People honestly don’t have that much free time.”
