Today was the day of Yan Jinge and Bai Wei’s engagement.

Logically, Yan Jinge’s younger brother, Yan Qingyu, should have left with their parents after the simple engagement banquet ended.

But he’d gotten drunk, kept insisting he needed to sleep, and refused to go.

No one could have imagined that, now, he would commit this kind of shameless act with Yan Jinge’s fiancé, Bai Wei.

It was just…

The people around them all looked painfully awkward.

Still, every last one of them had their ears perked high.

Yan Jinge’s aunt reined in the excitement in her eyes-the kind that came from watching a good show.

She turned and spoke to Yan Jinge’s mother, Ning Zhuyun, with a hypocritical sigh.

“Oh my… who would’ve thought Qingyu would actually… What in the world is this mess?”

Ning Zhuyun’s face turned iron-blue.

Earlier, when she’d received Yan Jinge’s call, she hadn’t thought anything of it.

On top of that, her husband was busy.

So she came alone.

Now, under the faint but ever-present stares from the surrounding relatives, she wanted nothing more than to find a crack in the floor and disappear into it.

If I’d known, I wouldn’t have come!

Even though she normally favored her younger son more, she still felt humiliated beyond words.

In her heart, she resented Yan Qingyu for fooling around.

At the same time, she shot Yan Jinge a vicious glance.

-How could she not understand now?

Yan Jinge had called this whole group over on purpose.

He wanted them to witness this scene.

Yet Yan Jinge showed not the slightest sign of being shaken.

He calmly closed the door.

Then he smiled apologetically.

“I’m sorry to let everyone see something so ridiculous,” he said.

“I truly didn’t expect something this… unforeseen to happen.”

“Please go downstairs to the living room for now.”

“Once I’ve handled things here, I’ll come down right away and host properly.”

After saying that, Yan Jinge took two steps to the side.

He pulled out his phone and contacted his lawyer.

Everyone froze.

Even Ning Zhuyun couldn’t help looking at Yan Jinge a few more times.

He… didn’t cry.

He didn’t throw a tantrum.

He didn’t threaten to die.

This Yan Jinge had driven Ning Zhuyun furious for years.

-She’d raised him carefully since he was young, grooming him to be the heir.

And then he turned around and fell for a man.

Fine. If he liked men, so be it.

With the Yan Family’s status, was dating really that big a deal?

But he just had to become a pathetic, clingy lapdog.

That humble, groveling look… it made people angry just seeing it.

At least today, he finally had a spine.

“Alright,” Ning Zhuyun said, covering her mouth lightly with her hand.

“Everyone, go downstairs.”

“The people here are all family.”

“I hope this won’t get out…”

“Of course,” Yan Jinge’s aunt answered with a smile.

“We’re not the type to gossip carelessly.”

Ning Zhuyun swept her gaze over the crowd.

The ones Yan Jinge had called over really were the sort who, with a little benefit tossed their way, could keep their mouths shut.

Her heart eased slightly.

So Yan Jinge hadn’t been completely thoughtless when he made that call.

…Had he really changed?

On the other side, Yan Jinge finished arranging to meet the lawyer in half an hour.

When he saw that the relatives had already gone downstairs, he returned to the room from before.

He pushed the door open and took a look.

Huh.

Bai Wei had stamina.

As for Yan Qingyu-he wasn’t stupid.

He’d heard the voices outside just now.

The moment he did, he realized what it meant.

Panic surged in his chest.

But he was the one being taken, and Bai Wei had him pinned hard to the bed.

His body was so weak and limp he couldn’t get up at all.

Later, he simply gave up.

-They’d already been caught anyway.

Might as well go all the way.

Yan Jinge leaned quietly against the doorframe.

He didn’t look at them.

He just stared at the carpet on the floor.

He waited for a while.

When the two of them showed no sign of stopping-if anything, they seemed even more into it-Yan Jinge rolled his eyes.

He knocked on the door three times.

HIs voice was flat with impatience.

“Hurry up and finish.”

“Once you’re done, come downstairs.”

“The lawyer will be here soon.”

With that, Yan Jinge slammed the door shut.

If a normal person ran into something like this, they’d go limp on the spot.

But these two?

They were getting more excited.

…Seriously. There was something wrong with them.

Or you could say they really were made for each other.

Yan Jinge turned and went downstairs.

The relatives Yan Jinge had called over were sitting properly on the sofas, talking among themselves.

No one was tactless enough to bring up what had happened upstairs.

When they heard footsteps coming down, they all turned to look.

Yan Jinge was walking down the spiral staircase alone.

His back was ramrod straight, like a young poplar.

His proportions were excellent.

His posture was beautiful.

He looked almost like a prince.

Especially those striking eyes of his-cool, detached, and devoid of emotion.

His lips were red, his teeth white.

His messy bangs were brushed back, revealing a smooth, full forehead.

His lashes were long and thick like raven feathers, yet each one distinct.

They were impossible to ignore.

When those eyes-clear as if washed by water-glanced over without meaning to, it was enough to steal a breath.

He’d always looked like this, more or less.

But today, something felt different.

…Maybe because he used to hunch slightly.

He’d always seemed listless.

Even his gaze had felt like it was covered by a layer of fog.

Now his whole aura had changed.

He looked sharper.

More forceful.

And his eyes were bright, gleaming with life.

“It’s been years since I’ve seen Jinge like this,” his aunt suddenly said.

Someone murmured agreement.

Yeah.

Yan Jinge had been a well-behaved child since he was young.

His personality was a bit rigid, but he was meticulous and reliable.

Then, in high school, he met Bai Wei.

After that, it was like he became a different person.

He did one foolish thing after another.

Yan Jinge stepped off the last stair and walked up to them.

He greeted each elder politely, one by one.

Finally, he let out a sigh.

Putting on a pained expression, he said, “I truly believed my feelings for Bai Wei were sincere.”

“But after this kind of change in circumstances, I feel terrible.”

“I’ve already called a lawyer.”

“I’d like to ask all of you elders not to leave yet.”

“Please be my witnesses.”

“From today on, Bai Wei and I have nothing to do with each other.”

“Of course.”

“The Bai Family has gone too far!”

“Exactly!”

Everyone responded at once.

A faint smile lingered at the corner of Yan Jinge’s lips.

He personally served tea to each of the elders.
When it was Ning Zhuyun’s turn, she pressed her fingers to Yan Jinge’s wrist. Her gaze seemed to pierce straight through him and see everything inside. She stared at him for three or four seconds before finally lowering her eyes and saying quietly, “You didn’t lose control today. You did reasonably well. But if you hadn’t called everyone else over, it would’ve been better.”

Yan Jinge didn’t flinch at all and met Ning Zhuyun’s eyes the entire time.

When he arrived in this world, he’d inherited the original’s memories. He knew the key people in his life and understood what kind of approach worked on Ning Zhuyun. Hearing her words, he didn’t respond to the criticism. He only called out softly, “Mama.”

“Mother,” “Mom,” and “Mama” each gave off a completely different feeling.

The first was distant. The second, formal and businesslike. The third sounded like acting spoiled, instantly closing the gap between two people.

Sure enough, Ning Zhuyun’s expression softened.

She took the tea from Yan Jinge’s hands and said, “Calling off the engagement is good too. Your father would be relieved. Go on.”

Yan Jinge replied, “Okay.”

Before long.

Three lawyers and Bai Wei and Yan Qingyu, who had been fooling around upstairs, appeared almost at the same time.

The lead lawyer was holding a folder. Faced with so many members of the Bai Family, his expression didn’t change. “Mr. Yan, these are the documents you asked us to prepare. Because the time was rather tight, some details in the contract may need to be confirmed on-site by the parties involved.”

Yan Jinge said, “All right.”

He turned to look at Bai Wei, lifting his chin slightly. “Come check if there’s anything you want changed in the contract.”

Bai Wei was taken aback.

Since when did Yan Jinge dare talk to him like this?

There was not a trace of fawning in his tone. It sounded exactly like a superior speaking to a subordinate.

How dare he?

Bai Wei’s expression went cold and hard. His toes shifted as if he was about to move, but he very quickly settled back, remaining where he stood.

-He was not going to let Yan Jinge order him around.

Off to the side, Yan Qingyu’s face was flushed bright red. He didn’t dare look any of his relatives in the eye, especially his mother, Ning Zhuyun. From the corner of his eye, he saw several relatives clustered together whispering, and he could guess they were talking about him.

To be honest, Yan Qingyu had never expected Yan Jinge to call all the relatives over.

Was he not afraid of losing face?

He was both embarrassed and angry, convinced that Yan Jinge was deliberately ruining him, but he didn’t dare show it. He only stammered, “Ge, there’s really no need to take things this far… Brother-in-law only walked into the wrong room because he was drunk. And you two just got engaged… I believe that even if Brother-in-law and I did it, the one he loves most would still be you.”

“Brother-in-law?”

Who was he trying to disgust with that form of address?

Yan Jinge was looking over the documents when he heard this. He turned his head and shot Yan Qingyu a cold look. “Shut up.”

So fierce.

Tears welled up in Yan Qingyu’s eyes.

With just a blink, they spilled over, making him look pitiful and fragile. He said in a small, aggrieved voice, “Brother-in-law, please go talk to my brother. He likes you so much, he must just be angry right now, that’s why he talked about calling off the engagement…”

Something stirred in Bai Wei’s chest.

That’s right.

Yan Jinge liked him so much. How could he really be thinking of calling off the engagement?

He immediately let out a cold laugh. “Are you sure you want to break off the engagement?”

On the other side, Yan Jinge didn’t even look at Bai Wei. “Yes. Everyone around here saw you cheat first. They’re witnesses. If you still don’t come over, we’ll go with this version of the contract.”

Bai Wei gave a derisive snort.

He strode over, grabbed the pen, and, with an air of careless flair, signed his name on the document. “Fine,” he said icily. “You want to break it off, then we’re done. Just don’t come begging me to get back together in the future.”

Did he not know what Yan Jinge was like?

Calling relatives over as witnesses, getting lawyers to draft contracts-wasn’t this all just playing hard to get? Back then, Yan Jinge had clung to him so tightly, making a huge fuss and refusing to break up no matter what. And now, the moment he stepped through the door of his house, he said he was letting go?

He didn’t buy it.

Even if the company still needed Yan Jinge right now, just wait-within three days, Yan Jinge would definitely regret this.

When that time came, he’d make Yan Jinge kneel in the company lobby and apologize.

Bai Wei tossed the pen aside, smoothed his tie with one hand, then turned and walked off.

“Uh…”

This was the first time anyone had seen Bai Wei behave like that, and for a moment, no one knew what to say.

Sitting on the stool, Yan Jinge remained perfectly calm, as if offhandedly commenting, “No manners at all.”

That one sentence seemed to snap the people around them out of it.

“Exactly, how can a son of the Bai Family be so rude? It’s one thing to ignore us when he came downstairs, but to threaten Jinge in front of us elders?”

“Right! He clearly doesn’t respect us at all!”

Yan Qingyu stared, stunned.

Hadn’t these same elders always sung Bai Wei’s praises? It was because he’d heard it so often that he’d started seeing Bai Wei as a promising catch-and to spite Yan Jinge, he’d deliberately done what he did today.

So how had the tone flipped all of a sudden, making Bai Wei sound like a piece of trash instead?

Hearing their words, the corners of Yan Jinge’s lips curved up.

His slender, pale fingers wrapped around the fountain pen as he signed his name on the document. He blew lightly on the fresh ink, then looked up and said gently, “Lawyer Fang, I’ll trouble you with this. Let’s finalize the contract as is.”

Lawyer Fang nodded. “All right.”

He gathered the documents and tucked them back into the folder, feeling a bit sorry for Young Master Bai.

He was already the head of a company, yet he still didn’t understand that with something like a contract, you must read it carefully before signing.
