As everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief, the atmosphere grew lively.

The middle-aged man in his forties who had spoken earlier looked toward Yan Jinge and said jubilantly, “Jinge, why haven’t you thanked Third Master Jing for his favor yet?”

“Oh, being able to serve the Third Master is truly our Jinge’s blessing.”

“Let’s find an auspicious day soon and get this matter settled between our two families, shall we?”

The Third Master lowered his gaze and said somewhat coldly, “No rush.”

Everyone’s hearts tightened.

No rush?

How could they not be in a rush?!

Every day this matter remained unsettled was another day their hearts would hang in suspense. After all, the Third Master was the decision-maker. If he changed his mind, the Yan Family would be powerless to stop him.

As if oblivious to the varying expressions of those around him, the Third Master slightly raised his hand. Someone immediately brought over a simple contract.

His long fingers tapped lightly on the paper as the Third Master looked at Yan Jinge. “Sign this contract first.”

At the same time, the system’s plot notification arrived late.

[Hello, Mr. Yan Jinge. Welcome back to ‘Rebirth.’ Your soul has been successfully deployed into a Small World. Please cherish this opportunity for rebirth, complete your mission, and earn a new life.]

Memories flooded into his brain.

Yan Jinge lowered his eyes, calmly organizing the information.

This was a very peculiar world.

Every human was born with a very low probability of having an invisible “Familiar” bonded to them. A Familiar would protect the master’s household and bring in wealth.

There were also differences in the strength of these Familiars.

The stronger the Familiar’s ability, the more luck the master would receive. Everything they did would yield twice the result with half the effort, and they were less prone to making mistakes.

But not everyone had a Familiar by their side.

To maximize these benefits, everyone in this world lived in family units centered around those who possessed a Bonded Familiar.

Whoever had the most powerful Familiar was the Clan Head.

The Clan Head could lead the entire family and command its members.

This relationship was not strictly bound by blood, though most clans were primarily composed of one family.

For example, Third Master Jing, who stood before Yan Jinge, was Bonded to the strongest Familiar in history. As soon as he came of age, he became the Clan Head of the Jing Family, possessing a limitless future.

By now, the Third Master had sat in the position of Clan Head for thirteen years.

Over those thirteen years, the Jing Family had grown increasingly powerful, leaping to become a leader in every industry.

As neighbors to the Jing Family, the Yan Family-hoping to cling to their influence and catch some of the luck from Third Master Jing’s Familiar-had offered the Original Host to this Third Master Jing.

Of course, there was another, deeper reason behind this move…

“Jinge, what are you dazing off for? Sign it quickly,” one of them urged, handing a pen to Yan Jinge.

“Wait a moment.”

Yan Jinge spoke without haste, unhurriedly reading through the entire contract with care.

The contents of the contract were quite standard, with nothing disadvantageous to Yan Jinge, except for one clause-after signing, Yan Jinge would be the lover of Third Master Jing, Jing Zhu.

Unless Jing Zhu spoke up, Yan Jinge had no right to divorce him.

Jing Zhu, however, could call an end to the relationship at any time.

The contract was in duplicate.

Third Master Jing held a fountain pen and signed his name in a bold, flowing script without hesitation.

Everyone was watching Yan Jinge.

Only then did Yan Jinge slowly sign his name.

“Good! Then it’s settled!”

“Since the Third Master has already shown his stance and agreed to take Jinge, Jinge might as well stay tonight. We’re all going to be family anyway, so there’s no need to fuss over a day or two, right?”

“Right, right, Jinge should just stay.”

“Cough, it’s getting late now. We won’t continue to disturb you.”

“Jinge, serve the Third Master well. Don’t make him angry, understand?”

Everyone offered their instructions.

Yan Jinge looked at them one by one, matching them with the people in his memories, and realized that everyone present was from the Yan Family.

They certainly are a prolific bunch, Yan Jinge thought expressionlessly.

The members of the Yan Family bid farewell to Third Master Jing and filed out.

The people in the room left in a rush, like a receding tide.

Once everyone was gone, the spacious room was suddenly left with only Yan Jinge and the wheelchair-bound Third Master Jing.

…So, here was the problem.

What was he supposed to do next?

The NPCs just told Yan Jinge to serve the Third Master… but how?

Adhering to the principle of not moving unless the enemy moved, Yan Jinge stood in place without budging.

He sized up Third Master Jing.

Not only was Third Master Jing’s Bonded Familiar the strongest in history, but his own physical appearance was also top-tier.
Beneath a pair of sword-straight brows were narrow, striking eyes. His pitch-black gaze swept over, and just that one look was enough to make someone’s legs go weak. His nose bridge was sharp and high, his lips a pale shade, and his build was even better-broad shoulders, a slim waist, and long legs that sat somewhat cramped on the wheelchair.

If his legs weren’t disabled, he’d definitely be taller than Yan Jinge when he stood.

Third Master Jing also seemed too lazy to bother with Yan Jinge. He only glanced at him once, said nothing, and directly steered his wheelchair into the bathroom.

Most likely to take a shower.

The tension in Yan Jinge’s body eased a little.

He casually looked around, studying the room, when his phone suddenly vibrated.

An unlisted number.

Yan Jinge answered without thinking.

“I heard my uncle agreed?!”

A young man’s voice came through the line, brimming with excitement.

Yan Jinge raised an eyebrow.

He’d only just made the decision. The Yan Family people who came to the room hadn’t even been gone long, yet Jing Wenjie already knew the answer. Looks like his connections were pretty solid.

Yan Jinge gave a bland “Mm.”

The man calling-Jing Wenjie-was Yan Jinge’s target for this mission.

And the Original Host’s boyfriend.

His current boyfriend.

“Just like I’d expect from the person I like. Jinge, baby, you’re incredible! My uncle’s always been so high and mighty-so many people have been sent to him, and he never took any of them, yet he picked you. Sigh… it must be because our Jinge is so pretty and so gentle. You’re so dazzling even my uncle fell for you, and now I’m kind of regretting it. I don’t even want you to do this anymore… but you’re the only one I can truly trust now.”

Jing Wenjie praised Yan Jinge nonstop, his tempting tone sliding through the phone. “Jinge, in the next year, you have to make my uncle fall completely in love with you. If this plan succeeds, we can get married smoothly. And after that, you’ll be the Jing Family’s legitimate Clan Head’s Lady!”

Yan Jinge: “?”

He understood the logic, but…

Yan Jinge asked, puzzled, “But I’m about to marry your uncle. Once we’re married, I’ll also be the Jing Family’s legitimate Clan Head’s Lady.”

Jing Wenjie: “……”

He choked, clearly not expecting Yan Jinge to say that, and hurried to patch it up. “That’s not the same at all! The difference is huge! Jinge, my uncle isn’t like me. He’s violent by nature, and he’s always three-minutes-hot-if you stay by his side and one day he decides to do something to you-”

Yan Jinge drawled lazily, “Is that so? Since your uncle is that hard to deal with, I’m afraid I won’t be able to-”

“Yan Jinge.”

A cool, low voice suddenly sounded from the direction of the bathroom, cutting him off.

Yan Jinge froze.

He straightened, eyes turning toward the bathroom. “Your uncle’s calling me. I’m hanging up.” With that, Yan Jinge didn’t wait for Jing Wenjie to respond and cleanly ended the call.

“Coming.”

He answered and headed for the bathroom. Halfway there, he suddenly felt a sharp gaze stuck to his back-as if someone were hidden in the darkness behind him, staring.

Yan Jinge whipped around.

-There was nothing behind him.

Yan Jinge frowned.

That sensation of being watched felt familiar… but he couldn’t recall why.

Probably leftover memory from the Original Host.

Yan Jinge didn’t pay it much mind.

He stopped at the bathroom door. “Third Master?”

“Come in.”

Third Master’s voice was different from Jing Wenjie’s.

Jing Wenjie still had a youthful ring to his voice-bright and enthusiastic-while Third Master, probably because of his age, sounded low and slightly hoarse, like a subwoofer.

His tone also carried a kind of cool detachment-distant.

Yan Jinge hesitated, then pushed the door open and went in.

The bathroom was huge as well, with wet and dry areas separated. A light-colored screen stood in the middle. From the shower side came the constant rush of water. Hot water was running, but the steam hadn’t fully spread yet. Under the lights, he could clearly see the silhouette of a man printed on the screen.

“Scrub my back.” The voice sounded again.

It hadn’t even been that long.

Yan Jinge blurted out, “Third Master, you haven’t been washing for long. It’s not really good to scrub yet-how about you wash a bit more? I promise I’ll scrub you clean later.”

There was no sound from behind the screen for a long time.

Yan Jinge had no choice but to call again. “Third Master?”

Third Master Jing issued a cold order: “Get out.”

Author’s Note:

Yan Jinge: ??? Was what I said wrong??? Why are you mad???

Third Master: Thanks for the invite. In that moment, it felt like I’d called in a bathhouse scrubber.
