Chapter 224

The NPCs here were simply too unpredictable.

Yan Jinge had no idea how he had offended Third Master, but not having to give him a scrub saved him some effort. Without the slightest hesitation, Yan Jinge took his leave and exited the bathroom.

Yet, just as he stepped out and closed the door, he heard a loud thud-the sound of something heavy slamming against the door from the inside.

Yan Jinge paused, clicking his tongue in thought.

It seemed the rumors about Third Master’s mercurial temperament were quite accurate.

Just then, a servant walked over. Seeing Yan Jinge standing outside the bathroom, she said respectfully, “Mr. Yan, your room has been prepared. It is right next to Third Master’s. Please follow me.”

Yan Jinge followed her.

As the two of them climbed the stairs, Yan Jinge once again felt the sensation of being watched.

This time, the thing was perched on the chandelier.

Yan Jinge pretended not to notice anything and asked the servant, “Who usually lives in this house?”

The servant stopped in the hallway and lowered her head slightly. “Third Master prefers peace and quiet,” she replied. “In the past, he lived here alone. From now on, it will be just the two of you. The rest of us live in the villa next door and only come over when Third Master needs us. If you require anything, you can ring the bell for us.”

Yan Jinge noticed that there were indeed many doorbell-like devices installed throughout the villa. They were positioned quite low, likely to accommodate Third Master.

Aside from those, however, the size and height of everything else seemed normal.

The servant stopped in front of a door. “Mr. Yan, this will be your room from now on. The room to your right is Third Master’s residence.”

She paused, offering a reminder. “Please do not enter any other rooms without permission. After all, there are Familiars by Third Master’s side. It wouldn’t be good if you were to offend them.”

“Understood,” Yan Jinge replied.

This world was different from the previous ones, after all. Public descriptions of Familiars were always vague; even though Yan Jinge had inherited the Original Host’s memories, he still wasn’t entirely sure what a Familiar’s capabilities were.

Until he had a better grasp of the situation, Yan Jinge certainly wouldn’t act recklessly.

It was getting late.

Feeling a bit tired, Yan Jinge bid the servant goodnight and entered the guest room. It was spacious and fully equipped. He took a quick shower, lay down on the bed, and fell fast asleep.

In the darkness, the door to Yan Jinge’s room opened silently and then clicked shut.

-It seemed something had entered.

That night, Yan Jinge had a very, very long dream.

In the dream, he had become a monkey pinned under Mount Wuzhi. He couldn’t get out no matter how hard he tried. Not only was he unable to turn over, but his chest felt so constricted that he could barely breathe.

It felt as if something were actually pressing down on him.

After his will fought against the dream for a long time, Yan Jinge finally struggled to open his eyes blearily.

At that exact moment, the weight on his body suddenly vanished.

Yan Jinge: “…”

So it wasn’t a dream at all.

Something really had been pressing down on him.

And now, that thing had finally gotten off.

However, when Yan Jinge frowned and looked around, there was nothing in the room besides himself-at least, nothing visible to the naked eye.

…Was it a Familiar?

If a Familiar wasn’t sleeping in the middle of the night, it should be guarding Third Master Jing. Why come to his room? What, was his stomach a comfortable place to sleep?

Yan Jinge found it baffling.

He reached for his phone and checked the time; it was only four in the morning.

Yan Jinge simply rolled over onto his side and went back to sleep.

His second bout of sleep was relatively peaceful.

When he woke up in the morning and finished washing up, he saw several new messages on his phone.

They were from the scumbag, Jing Wenjie: “Jinge baby, come out tonight. Let’s have dinner together, okay? I miss you, so, so much.”

“By the way, baby, don’t forget to delete our chat history. It wouldn’t be good if my uncle saw it.”

“Yours forever, Wenjie.”

Yan Jinge replied expressionlessly: “Okay.”

***

At the Jing Family estate.

Lying in bed, Jing Wenjie finally received Yan Jinge’s reply. He couldn’t help but smirk, reaching out to pull the boy beside him close and giving him a heavy kiss on the lips.

The boy immediately kissed him back. When the deep kiss ended, he put on a curious look and asked, “Brother Wenjie, what has you so happy?”

“It’s nothing.”

Jing Wenjie obviously wasn’t going to tell him. He gave a dismissive answer, and thinking of his plan, he excitedly climbed over the boy. “Baby, how about one more time?”

Though it was a question, he didn’t give the boy a chance to choose.

While he moved, Jing Wenjie sent the restaurant address to Yan Jinge.

After a moment’s thought, he found another contact: “That stuff I asked you to prepare for me-send it over now. I’m going to use it tonight.”

***

On the other end, Yan Jinge soon received the restaurant address.

He glanced at it and put his phone away.

As soon as he went downstairs, Yan Jinge smelled the aroma of food. He followed the scent to the dining room and saw that Third Master was already seated.

“Good morning.”

As Yan Jinge greeted him, he naturally took a seat opposite Third Master Jing.

Third Master stared at Yan Jinge.

Yan Jinge certainly had the capital to be sent to Third Master’s side.

He was exceptionally exquisite and beautiful. His face was only the size of a palm, his long eyelashes were thick and curled, and his eyes were an emerald green that exuded a mysterious aura. One look into them made people want to know him more deeply.

He was wearing simple loungewear that seemed a size too large, making him look quite small and delicate.

Likely because he had just woken up, Yan Jinge’s hair looked a bit messy. Some stray strands hung over his face, and because they were in the way, he reached up and brushed them all back, revealing a smooth, full forehead.
…He had changed a lot.

Third Master Jing thought this to himself, yet his face remained cold and indifferent. “Did I give you permission to sit?” he asked.

Yan Jinge wasn’t intimidated in the slightest. He looked up and said, “Your Familiar slept on my stomach last night.”

Third Master Jing: “…”

Neither of them spoke again.

With a dark expression, Third Master Jing began to eat.

The matter was considered dropped.

Yan Jinge also gave the Third Master enough face, waiting until Third Master Jing picked up his chopsticks before he began to eat as well.

From the dishes on the table, it was clear that Third Master Jing’s quality of life was exceptionally high.

Even for a simple breakfast for two, there were seven dishes and one soup. Coincidentally, four of them were things Yan Jinge particularly liked, while the other three were things he absolutely detested.

The chef was impressive; he had accurately targeted both of Yan Jinge’s extremes.

Once he had eaten his fill, Yan Jinge said, “Third Master, I’m full, so I’ll head upstairs first. I have something to take care of tonight, so don’t wait for me for dinner.”

Third Master Jing said nothing.

Yan Jinge wasn’t asking for his permission anyway; he left as soon as he finished speaking.

Left alone at the table, Third Master Jing leaned over and scooped something out of the air, cradling it in his arms. He looked at the seven dishes, which were divided as clearly as the Jing and Wei rivers.

-The dishes that person used to like were nearly empty.

As for the ones that person disliked, he truly hadn’t touched them once.

His slender fingers lightly stroked the empty air in his arms. Third Master Jing narrowed his eyes slightly; his dark pupils slit for a moment before quickly returning to normal.

He scolded nonchalantly, “You were far too impatient.”

In the afternoon, Yan Jinge enjoyed a leisurely life upstairs.

As the appointed time approached, he slowly got up, changed his clothes, and headed out for his meeting.

When Yan Jinge arrived at the restaurant, Jing Wenjie was already waiting in the private room.

The Jing Family genes were excellent.

In Yan Jinge’s eyes, Third Master Jing’s looks were already at the peak of perfection, but this scumbag Jing Wenjie was also quite handsome. His face was particularly attractive, and his flirtatious peach blossom eyes blinked slightly at Yan Jinge as if sending out sparks.

The moment he entered, Jing Wenjie stood up and reached out, seemingly wanting to take Yan Jinge’s hand.

Yan Jinge frowned and stepped aside to avoid him.

Jing Wenjie was stunned. “…Jinge?”

Yan Jinge explained calmly, “Even though we’re in a private room, the door is still open. This is a public place, after all. It wouldn’t be good if your Little Uncle found out about our relationship.”

This explanation convinced Jing Wenjie.

“True, Jinge is still the more thoughtful one, better than me.”

Jing Wenjie sighed softly. “This is all my fault. I’ve been so busy these past few days that I haven’t seen you. Now that I finally have, I just couldn’t help myself…”

Yan Jinge glanced at him.

Jing Wenjie pursed his lips.

In the past, if he had spoken like that, Yan Jinge would have likely taken the initiative to comfort him. Yet today, Yan Jinge didn’t move a muscle.

He keenly sensed that his once-clingy lover had become much colder. Recalling their previous phone call, Jing Wenjie lowered his eyes, suppressing the unease in his heart.

It couldn’t be.

He had spent over a year planning this line with Yan Jinge. He had confirmed that Yan Jinge was deeply mired in his feelings for him and wouldn’t easily break free before he began the implementation.

The other’s current behavior was most likely just throwing a tantrum over being forced to marry Third Master Jing.

After Jing Wenjie finished ordering and all the dishes were served, he stood up and locked the room door.

Although he didn’t try to touch Yan Jinge again, he pulled his chair right up next to him. Looking at Yan Jinge with eyes full of affection, he said, “Jinge, do you remember this restaurant? This is where I brought you on our first date. You said the food here was delicious. I actually brought you here today on purpose.”

Yan Jinge asked airily, “Is that so?”

Jing Wenjie ignored the coldness in Yan Jinge’s tone.

He suddenly stood up and dropped to one knee.

Looking up, Jing Wenjie’s eyes seemed to hold stars. “Jinge, you know I love you the most. Letting you marry my Little Uncle this time was a last resort. It’s because you are the only person in this world I trust. Aside from you, I really wouldn’t dare let anyone else participate in such an important plan…”

“But I’m not reconciled to it.”

“Jinge, I love you so much, yet your first marriage will be to my Little Uncle. Even your first time will surely be his. My heart aches terribly. That’s why I specifically chose this place-this important place where we had our first date-to tell you-”

Jing Wenjie pulled a box from his pocket and opened it in front of Yan Jinge. Inside lay a diamond ring, shimmering slightly under the restaurant lights.

Jing Wenjie took out the ring and tentatively reached out. “Jinge, will you marry me?”

Seeing that Yan Jinge remained silent, Jing Wenjie said softly, “If you agree, then before you marry Little Uncle, we will already be husbands. We’ll be the ones who married first… It would be discovered by Little Uncle if we did it domestically, but we can go abroad to do it. It’s the same.”

“Consider this my compensation for your sacrifice.”

Yan Jinge arched an eyebrow.

He tilted his head and said, “I’m sorry, but I’m not willing.”

Yan Jinge continued, “I’ve already signed a contract with the Third Master, and it officially went into effect yesterday. If I were to marry you in private, it would be a breach of contract, not to mention the crime of bigamy. How could I do something so illegal?”

“Furthermore, as for this ‘compensation’-”

“In the eyes of outsiders, I won’t even have a recognized status, and I’d be saddled with a breach of contract and bigamy charges. This is what you call compensation?”

“Jing Wenjie, you aren’t being sincere.”
