Third Master kept a cold face as he bent down to pick up the Familiar.

His well-defined fingers curled as he gave the anklet a light tug. He looked up and asked, “You put this on him?”

Yan Jinge hummed in affirmation, repeating what he had told the Familiar the night before. “He seems to like it quite a bit. I asked him twice if he wanted it off, and he refused both times.”

Third Master gave Yan Jinge a meaningful look, as if he had already seen through his little tricks.

He didn’t say much else, only adding, “If you want to take him out, take this thing off. Don’t let anyone see it.”

The Familiar was Third Master’s Bonded. Others feared the backlash and wouldn’t dare harm him easily. Without some serious skill, no one would lay a hand on the Familiar, but there were always fools who didn’t know their place.

Yan Jinge: “I know.”

He had no intention of exposing the Familiar to Jing Wenjie anyway.

Third Master Jing seemed to have other matters to attend to.

Before leaving, he walked up to Yan Jinge and calmly pulled out a gold-rimmed black card, tossing it into Yan Jinge’s lap. “Spend as much as you want. Don’t embarrass me.”

Yan Jinge arched an eyebrow. “Thank you, Third Master.”

After Third Master Jing left, Yan Jinge read for a while. Seeing that it was getting late, he stood up to change.

He was in the walk-in closet, unbuttoning his shirt, when a thought struck him. He turned his head and, sure enough, saw a black anklet floating in the corner-the Familiar was staring right at him.

Yan Jinge’s fingers paused.

He frowned. “Even though you’re small, it’s wrong to watch people change.” He walked over, picked up the Familiar, tossed him out of the closet, and locked the door.

Much better.

After changing, Yan Jinge took the anklet off the Familiar at the entryway. “In a bit, I’m taking you to see a bad man. Help me keep an eye on the Familiar by his side, and don’t let that one do anything bad, okay?”

The Familiar didn’t react.

Without the anklet, Yan Jinge couldn’t gauge the Familiar’s current mood.

Not that he was relying entirely on the Familiar anyway.

Saying those words was merely a way to state his opposition to Jing Wenjie.

Yan Jinge straightened up and was about to head out when he saw the anklet on the shoe cabinet rise into the air. Then, with a click, the clasp fastened accurately around Yan Jinge’s own ankle.

Yan Jinge: “???”

The anklet was adjustable, and it fit Yan Jinge’s slender ankle perfectly.

Yan Jinge glanced down. Seeing that it matched his outfit well enough, he didn’t take it off.

He was about to scoop up the Familiar to leave for his appointment, but his hand caught only air. Then, something about the size of a palm-roughly the volume of a hamster and just as light-began climbing up his arm.

Yan Jinge guessed it immediately.

He said in surprise, “You can shrink?”

The Familiar successfully climbed onto Yan Jinge’s shoulder and sat there, motionless.

Intrigued, Yan Jinge turned his head and couldn’t resist teasing the Familiar with his finger. The Familiar immediately reached out with two tiny arms, hugging Yan Jinge’s finger and seemingly rubbing its soft cheek against it.

-A critical hit of cuteness!

Yan Jinge’s eyes crinkled into a smile. He felt the Familiar was even cuter like this than when it was baby-sized. He cautioned, “Sit tight. Be careful not to fall off.”

This time, Jing Wenjie had invited Yan Jinge to a private kitchen restaurant.

The driver took Yan Jinge and the Familiar to the destination. Upon entering, a server immediately stepped forward and led Yan Jinge through several turns to a private room.

Jing Wenjie had already arrived.

Dishes were already laid out before him, and he was pouring red wine into a decanter. Seeing Yan Jinge arrive, he quickly set down the wine and stood up. “Jinge.”

As he spoke, his gaze swept over Yan Jinge.

The summer heat hadn’t faded yet, and it was over thirty degrees outside, but Yan Jinge looked fresh and cool as he walked in. He was dressed in casual clothes, his lower legs exposed, with the black anklet prominently displayed on his ankle bone.

Jing Wenjie noticed it immediately.

His gaze lingered on Yan Jinge’s ankle for a few seconds before he looked up and said sincerely, “Jinge, you look truly beautiful.”

Yan Jinge glanced at him but said nothing.

Jing Wenjie didn’t mind. He guided Yan Jinge to sit beside him and said gently, “I asked you out today because I wanted to apologize for yesterday. Jinge, I thought about it carefully after I got back. It was indeed my fault that we became so confrontational. I know you love me and that you’ve sacrificed so much being forced to stay with my uncle. And yet, I failed to put myself in your shoes and understand your pain. I didn’t show enough sincerity to make you feel secure.”

Yan Jinge looked at him and said faintly, “You finally understand.”

Jing Wenjie was delighted.

He had indeed guessed Yan Jinge’s thoughts correctly!

Just as Jing Wenjie was about to probe further to open Yan Jinge’s heart, he heard Yan Jinge ask with interest, “Since you also think your sincerity was lacking, where is your sincerity this time?”

Jing Wenjie: “…”

Yan Jinge really didn’t show any sentimentality at all.

Asking for “sincerity” so bluntly-how vulgar. In this regard, Yan Jinge was nothing like that person… At the thought of the “white moonlight” he held dear in his heart, Jing Wenjie’s heart softened.

He couldn’t help but compare the two, feeling a hint of disdain for Yan Jinge.

But that only lasted a second or two.

Jing Wenjie pulled another card from his pocket.

He tried to take Yan Jinge’s hand to place the card in his palm, but the latter didn’t give him the chance.

A flash of hurt crossed Jing Wenjie’s face. He could only place the card on the table instead, saying softly, “There’s three million in here. It’s all the money I have on me right now… You know that the Familiar by my side is too weak.”
“Jinge, you’re with Third Master now, so your expenses must be higher than before. I figured that when you asked me for money yesterday, it must have been because you had no other choice…”

Jing Wenjie lowered his voice. “I didn’t consider things carefully enough, but life is too hard right now. Only by snatching the Familiar from my uncle’s side can I truly make money and give you everything you want… By the way, a friend gave me a potion. Jinge, as long as you inject this potion into my uncle’s body, the connection between him and the Familiar will grow weaker and weaker. That will be enough for us to carry out the next step.”

A small hand suddenly pressed against Yan Jinge’s cheek.

He didn’t look away, not revealing the Familiar’s presence at all. “What kind of potion?”

Seeing that Yan Jinge didn’t refuse, Jing Wenjie breathed a sigh of relief.

-It seemed giving Yan Jinge money was useful.

Vain person.

Jing Wenjie thought as he took out the potion. Yan Jinge reached out to take it, curiously observing the burgundy liquid inside. He looked up and asked, “Which friend did you get this potion from?”

“…Jinge, that’s not something you need to worry about.”

The smile on Jing Wenjie’s face faded slightly.

As he spoke, he reached out to pour the red wine from the decanter and handed it to Yan Jinge. “Want a glass?”

“No thanks.”

Yan Jinge looked at the red wine in Jing Wenjie’s hand with a half-smile. He tucked the potion away and stood up. “I was wondering why you’d call me here for no reason. I’ve got the potion now, so I won’t stay for dinner. I’m leaving.”

Jing Wenjie’s heart skipped a beat.

He hurriedly stood up. “You’re already here, why not finish dinner before leaving? And this card-”

Yan Jinge leisurely pulled out the card Third Master had given him and slapped it onto the table with a thwack, covering the card Jing Wenjie had given him earlier. “Do I look like someone who’s short on money?”

Jing Wenjie: “…”

Shit.

What kind of talk was that?

If he wasn’t short on money, why did Yan Jinge ask him for money before?

Jing Wenjie frowned and forced a smile. “Jinge, don’t joke with me like that…”

Yan Jinge asked back in surprise, “What joke am I making? Oh, you mean yesterday. I only asked you for money then because I simply wanted to see the look on your face when it pained you to part with your money, yet you had no choice but to give it to me.”

Jing Wenjie: “???”

What kind of weird fetish was this???

Jing Wenjie was in disbelief.

He thought he had a certain understanding of Yan Jinge’s personality. Plus, Yan Jinge was indeed the best-looking among all his lovers. That was why Jing Wenjie had chosen Yan Jinge when he made this plan, pushing him into the position of Third Master’s partner.

He never expected…

Yan Jinge was this kind of person!

Jing Wenjie thought he was a good actor, but Yan Jinge was even better!

Look at him.

He acted so obedient before, but now that he’d just moved up in the world, he was already acting lawless.

Watching Yan Jinge’s departing back, Jing Wenjie suddenly felt a bit of regret about giving him the potion.

But it didn’t matter. Yan Jinge had already taken the potion. Besides, he had been arrogant before, saying that no matter who the Clan Head of the Jing Family was, as long as he was the Clan Head’s Lady, it was fine.

Heh.

Clan Head’s Lady…

Keep dreaming.

Once the plan succeeded, Yan Jinge would be the first person he’d deal with!

Jing Wenjie’s gaze returned to the red wine, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

Fortunately.

Fortunately, after his initial anger passed, although he had asked his friend for an extra dose of the potion, he had hesitated about whether to discard such an important pawn like Yan Jinge since he had been planning this for so long. So, he hadn’t put the potion in the red wine.

Otherwise, wouldn’t that be a waste?

Jing Wenjie sat back down.

He had spent a lot of money for Yan Jinge’s sake. For example, the dishes at this private restaurant were very expensive, though they tasted great. And this bottle of wine was something Jing Wenjie had specially brought along, costing tens of thousands.

Can’t let it go to waste.

Thinking this, Jing Wenjie began to eat heartily.

On the other side.

Yan Jinge walked to a secluded spot and whispered, “Familiar?”

Yan Jinge could feel the Familiar crouching on his shoulder; after all, the weight was there. But the Familiar hadn’t reacted for a long time. He didn’t know if it was angry because of what Jing Wenjie said earlier.

Yan Jinge had no choice but to reach out and tentatively touch the Familiar.

“Hmph.”

A soft, displeased snort suddenly came from beside his left ear.

Because it was so close, the sound was quite loud and sounded huffy.

Yan Jinge was stunned.

-He hadn’t expected the Familiar to actually be able to make sounds.

Although it was only a brief syllable, Yan Jinge felt the voice sounded familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere before. But after searching his mind, he couldn’t remember.

“Don’t be angry, okay?” Yan Jinge had no resistance to cute things.

Especially since he needed the Familiar’s help.

He was just about to explain that he and Jing Wenjie weren’t on the same side when he suddenly felt his finger being gently hugged by the Familiar.

Hmm?

…It stopped being angry quite quickly.

Yan Jinge found it amusing.

With his other hand, he took out the potion Jing Wenjie had given him and said softly, “Did you see that? This is the potion Jing Wenjie wants to use to harm your master. Take it, sneak back inside, be careful not to be seen, and put it in Jing Wenjie’s wine glass, okay?”

***

Author’s Note:

Familiar: That person actually wanted to hold Yan Jinge’s hand. I’m so mad, I’m so mad!

Yan Jinge: Has no resistance to all little ones.
