With the potion taken, the Familiar made a few leaps and bounds through the air, flying directly over the courtyard wall and into the private restaurant.

Yan Jinge felt relieved and waited where he was.

Before long, he felt a weight on his head.

Yan Jinge instinctively reached up to steady it, his fingertips brushing against the Familiar’s soft body. “Is it done?”

“Mhm,” the Familiar spoke again.

His voice sounded a bit milky yet incredibly serious, like a small child trying to imitate an adult but not quite getting it right.

“Good boy.”

Yan Jinge coaxed the Familiar as if he were a child. With a smile in his eyes, he was about to head toward where the driver had parked when the Familiar on his head suddenly said, “I have a name.”

Yan Jinge then asked, “What is it?”

Familiar: “Bai Cheng. My name is Bai Cheng.”

Bai Cheng?

That name…

Yan Jinge hesitated for a moment. “That’s a very nice name. Though, I thought you would share the same surname as Third Master Jing.” After all, he was the Bonded Familiar by Third Master Jing’s side; he hadn’t expected his surname to be Bai.

Hearing this, the Familiar named Bai Cheng seemed to take offense at something and angrily yanked on Yan Jinge’s hair.

Yan Jinge winced in pain, letting out a sharp hiss.

The pressure on his head vanished instantly.

As Yan Jinge walked out, he said with a smile, “Chengcheng knows how to feel bad for me now, doesn’t he?”

“…”

Bai Cheng had a stomach full of angry words, but facing Yan Jinge, he couldn’t say a single one-because the other man didn’t remember anything. He simply lay flat on top of Yan Jinge’s head, muttering fiercely to himself, “I’m so mad, I’m so mad, I’m so mad…”

It was like a monk chanting sutras.

Yan Jinge: “…”

Uh, he hadn’t really said anything wrong, had he? He just brought up the surname issue.

Why was the Familiar so angry?

Could it be that Third Master Jing was unwilling to share a surname with the Familiar, and his sudden mention of it had touched a sore spot?

Once they were in the car with the driver present, the Familiar went silent.

When they arrived at Third Master Jing’s residence, he hopped right off Yan Jinge and vanished in a flash.

Yan Jinge entered the house. While changing his shoes, he saw the anklet on his ankle, took it off, and shook it. “Chengcheng, do you want to wear it?”

Silence surrounded him.

Although Yan Jinge hadn’t spent much time with the Familiar, he already understood the other’s personality.

You had to react differently depending on who you were dealing with.

Yan Jinge deliberately put on a sad, mournful expression. “This was a gift I bought specifically for you. I wasn’t supposed to wear it in the first place; I only put it on because you put it on me before. If you don’t want to wear it, I suppose you don’t like it. I might as well just throw it away. It seems my intention in buying things for you isn’t worth a single cent…”

The anklet was suddenly tugged by a force.

Yan Jinge let go at the right moment.

The Familiar had returned to his infant-sized form. He put on the anklet and pattered away.

It wasn’t until evening that Third Master Jing returned.

The bodyguard pushed the Third Master’s wheelchair inside and said respectfully, “Third Master, we shall take our leave now.”

“Mhm.”

The Third Master gave a brief response.

In a flash of insight, Yan Jinge realized exactly who the Familiar’s voice sounded like!

-It was the Third Master.

The two voices were practically cast from the same mold, except one had the steady, magnetic quality of an adult that made one’s heart race, while the other was the soft, milky voice of a child.

Put that way, the Familiar named Bai Cheng looked like a childhood version of the Third Master.

But that was normal.

After all, Bai Cheng was the Third Master’s Bonded.

As Yan Jinge was thinking, the Third Master turned his wheelchair around.

The two made eye contact.

The impact of the “mosaic” he had seen earlier was simply too great.

To the point that now, as soon as Yan Jinge saw Third Master Jing, his gaze couldn’t help but sneak a few peeks toward the man’s lower half.

Third Master Jing: “…”

Normally, if someone were stared at like that, they would likely feel embarrassed, either shying away or scolding the person. However, Third Master Jing didn’t seem to care; instead, he settled into a more casual sitting posture.

His expression was indifferent as he asked casually, “Who did you go to meet?”

Yan Jinge looked at him. “Why do you ask?”

Third Master Jing gazed at Yan Jinge, his eyes growing increasingly profound.
He exuded a powerful aura, his eyes cold and devoid of emotion. As Yan Jinge was stared at, he felt the hair on the back of his neck stand up, as if he were being watched by a venomous snake that would lunge and bite him at any moment.

Yan Jinge recalled the mosaic in his mind, and only then did he suppress the chill running through him.

…He even felt a bit like laughing.

Third Master happened to look down, missing Yan Jinge’s odd expression. He slowly adjusted his cuffs, his voice steady: “Jinge, a family is like a workplace; one must learn how to pick a side. Do you understand?”

Yan Jinge: “…I understand, Third Master.”

When he showered that night, Third Master didn’t ask Yan Jinge to scrub his back.

Yan Jinge slept very soundly.

The next morning.

After finishing his morning routine and heading downstairs, he turned a corner and suddenly felt like he almost tripped over something. However, when he looked closely, there was nothing there. Yan Jinge didn’t pay it any mind. When he went downstairs to find something to eat, he saw at a glance that the room was packed with people.

But this time, it wasn’t the Yan Family; it was the Jing Family.

In this somewhat twisted environment, everyone hoped to give birth to someone with a super-strong Bonded Familiar. So, they had as many children as possible. As for how to raise them?

As long as there was a Familiar, they didn’t worry about being unable to support them.

Yan Jinge scanned the room casually and saw Third Master Jing sitting at the head of the table, with Jing Wenjie seated below him.

Third Master Jing held a cup of tea and took a light sip. He raised his eyes to see Yan Jinge coming down and said lazily, “Drag him out. Don’t let him offend Jinge’s eyes.”

This sentence was like a switch.

“Ahhh-Third Master, have mercy!”

“Third Master, I really know I was wrong, I’ll never do it again! Ah-help! Save me-”

“Save me, someone save me-”

A shrill voice suddenly rang out in the room. Only then did Yan Jinge see a person kneeling by the door.

At that moment, the person was being dragged out by bodyguards.

In the room, everyone except Third Master at the head of the table kept their heads down in silence, their expressions varied.

Even Jing Wenjie was like an ostrich, not daring to breathe loudly.

A moment later, a loud bang rang out.

Everything fell into silence.

The faces of those around grew even paler.

“Everyone in the family is like my child. I believe I haven’t treated you poorly, but some people have developed crooked thoughts, wanting to strike at me, the head of the family. Truly, their intentions are damnable.”

As Third Master spoke, his tone grew heavier. He set the teacup down with a sharp clatter and suddenly looked at Yan Jinge. “Jinge, wouldn’t you agree?”

Third Master Jing suddenly called Yan Jinge’s name, and everyone around turned to look in an instant.

Especially Jing Wenjie; his palms suddenly broke into a sweat.

He was filled with suspicion and unease, thinking: Why did my uncle suddenly mention Yan Jinge? Could it be that when Yan Jinge drugged him, he was caught?

…Did he sell me out?

Jing Wenjie’s expression turned quite unsightly.

Yan Jinge didn’t care about the gazes of the crowd.

He simply nodded and said, “Third Master is right.”

Third Master Jing let out a low chuckle and beckoned to Yan Jinge, signaling for him to come over. However, Yan Jinge didn’t move. Only then did Third Master remember that Yan Jinge didn’t look at his hand gestures, so he had to speak: “Come here.”

Yan Jinge looked at the space beside Third Master Jing.

It was packed; there was no place for him to sit.

Jing Wenjie, who was right next to Third Master, immediately stood up. “You sit here.” The people following Jing Wenjie all stood up in a flurry, shifting over one by one to make a space.

Yan Jinge had no objections and walked over to sit down.

Third Master looked down. “This is Yan Jinge. My husband.”

Third Master Jing gave this simple introduction, ignoring the shocked looks of those around him, and looked at Jing Wenjie.

Everyone thought Third Master Jing would praise Jing Wenjie for knowing how to read the room and being the first to give up his seat. But to their surprise, Third Master Jing asked coldly, “Wenjie, do you know how you should address him from now on?”

Jing Wenjie was startled and hurriedly said, “Third Master, I understand.”

“Good.”
Third Master Jing gave a grunt of affirmation before glancing at Jing Wenjie. “Then why haven’t you said anything yet? Are you dissatisfied?”

“Of course not!”

Jing Wenjie spoke hurriedly, feeling as though he was being targeted.

…Did his uncle actually know something?

Otherwise, why would he ignore everyone else and target only him?

Cold sweat broke out on his forehead as he turned to look at Yan Jinge.

Yan Jinge was sitting in Jing Wenjie’s former seat, looking perfectly composed. He didn’t seem the least bit awkward or panicked. Hearing Third Master Jing’s words, he turned his head, his beautiful, translucent green eyes quietly observing Jing Wenjie.

This calm demeanor allowed Jing Wenjie to relax slightly.

After a moment’s hesitation, he spoke: “Auntie.”

Yan Jinge gave Jing Wenjie a half-smile and nodded. “Hello, good nephew. You’re quite bright to meet me today. I didn’t bring a greeting gift with me, so I’ll make it up to you later. By the way, in the future, just follow your uncle’s lead and call me ‘Little Uncle.’ There’s no need to call me ‘Auntie.'”

Some of the others present were of the same generation as Jing Wenjie. Hearing this, they observed Third Master Jing’s expression while calling out “Little Uncle” one after another, trying to get on Yan Jinge’s good side.

Seeing that the Third Master didn’t seem angry, a few of them grew bolder.

“Little Uncle, I see you’re about the same age as us. If you’re free in the future, we can play games together.”

“Yeah, whatever you usually play, you can call us to join you.”

Yan Jinge agreed to each one: “Alright, nephews.”

Jing Wenjie: “…”

Jing Wenjie couldn’t help but steal a few more glances at Yan Jinge, thinking to himself that this person was certainly quick to take advantage of the situation.

The others looked at Yan Jinge and felt a bit speechless as well. Who addressed others as “nephews” while talking to them? But given their seniority, saying it like that seemed…

Not technically wrong?

Moreover, Third Master Jing sat nearby as if he hadn’t heard a thing, making no move to stop him.

Those around them understood then-this was exactly what Third Master Jing intended.

It was truly peculiar.

Though Yan Jinge was indeed good-looking, what kind of beauty hadn’t Third Master Jing seen before? To think he would actually fall for the Yan Family’s Yan Jinge…

Only one person, sitting further away, looked between Yan Jinge and Jing Wenjie with a hint of amusement in their expression.

After the group forced some awkward conversation in the oppressive atmosphere for a while, Third Master Jing grew tired and slightly raised a hand.

The others understood the Third Master’s meaning and rose one by one to take their leave.

As Jing Wenjie bowed his head, he suddenly spotted an anklet on Third Master Jing’s ankle. It was exactly the same as the one Yan Jinge had been wearing before!

He couldn’t help but look at Yan Jinge.

-Yan Jinge’s ankle, however, was now bare.

Has the relationship between these two already progressed to the point where they can swap anklets?

Jing Wenjie was filled with uncertainty, feeling both happy and worried.

If Yan Jinge had a good relationship with Third Master Jing, it would certainly help Jing Wenjie’s plan. Later, when he engineered the swap of the Familiar with Third Master Jing and sacrificed Yan Jinge to the Familiar, the Familiar would be even more willing to accept Jing Wenjie if it was pleased.

But Yan Jinge’s personality had changed so abruptly lately…

Whatever.

He would take it one step at a time.

Regardless, he still had the medicine in his hand.

***

On the other side.

Once only Third Master Jing and Yan Jinge were left in the room, Third Master Jing suddenly leaned over and pulled something with his fingers.

Not understanding, Yan Jinge also looked down. The light in the living room was excellent, revealing a thin, shimmering wire hanging around Yan Jinge’s ankle.

Yan Jinge: “???”

What on earth is this???

Why is it hanging on his leg??

Although it didn’t hurt and didn’t restrict his movement, it felt strange…

Yan Jinge finally understood why he had almost been tripped by something this morning.

He looked up at the Third Master.

Third Master Jing nonchalantly let go and said indifferently, “Why are you looking at me like that? Don’t you like these little trinkets? I put this on you specially; don’t let my intentions go to waste.”

Yan Jinge: “???”

Author’s Note:
Third Master: Yan Jinge keeps looking at that spot of mine. It must be because I’m so big and he’s envious!
