Seduced the Obsessive NPC and Ran - chapter 5
Bai Wei refused to believe it.
He opened one social app after another and messaged Yan Jinge, only to find that Yan Jinge had handled everything flawlessly-every account was either blocked or deleted.
He actually couldn’t reach Yan Jinge at all!
If the evidence weren’t right in front of him, Bai Wei never would’ve believed it.
That Yan Jinge-in Bai Wei’s eyes-was a dog that followed behind him.
All Bai Wei had to do was wave a hand, and Yan Jinge should’ve come running over on his own, rubbing against his pant leg.
But now?
The dog had stopped listening.
Bai Wei’s face turned more and more terrifying.
The secretary had never seen Bai Wei like this.
In her mind, Bai Wei had always been the very image of gentle composure, refined manners, and decisive ruthlessness.
That was what attracted her to him most.
Yet now, cold sweat beaded on his forehead, his facial muscles twitched slightly, and his expression was downright vicious.
Her heart jumped into her throat, but she could only force herself to speak up.
“President Bai, the legal team is coming up…”
“Tell them to wait in the conference room.”
Bai Wei rose to his feet.
He had to find Yan Jinge as soon as possible.
He needed Yan Jinge to withdraw the order he’d given the lawyers.
Bai Wei moved fast toward the door.
His waist slammed into the sharp corner of the heavy desk, and he only frowned.
The secretary hurried after him without thinking.
“President Bai…”
At the sound of the title, Bai Wei turned his head.
His eyes swept over the secretary’s face.
He didn’t want this secretary-the one he’d had a one-night fling with, the one who was always staring at him with worshipful eyes-following him around and seeing a side of him no one else knew.
But if he brought someone else, there was no guarantee they’d keep their mouth shut.
This one, at least, was obedient.
That made her the most suitable choice.
Bai Wei looked impatient.
Then, catching the fear on her face, he realized how badly he’d lost control over the last few minutes.
He pulled his emotions back in.
Keeping his face tight and expressionless, he said flatly, “Pass it down. Have someone properly receive the Yan Family’s legal team. You must keep them steady. After that, come out with me. I’ll go start the car downstairs. Once you’ve given the instructions, get down here immediately.”
“Yes.”
It was as if the secretary had finally found something to hold on to.
She answered at once and jogged off to give the orders.
Her high heels clicked rapidly across the polished, mirror-bright floor.
Fifteen minutes later, the two met downstairs.
The secretary slid into the passenger seat.
“The legal team has been handed over to Secretary Li to receive,” she reported. “Externally, we said you’re in a meeting. Since you didn’t specify how long we’ll be out, I cleared your schedule for the day and moved everything to other times. The exact times are being rearranged. Once this is handled, I’ll go confirm the itinerary.”
She buckled her seatbelt.
As she spoke, she leaned forward and reached back to touch her heel.
Because she’d been in such a rush, she’d run the whole way down, and the back of her heel was rubbed raw and red.
Bai Wei drove himself.
From the corner of his eye, he saw what she was doing.
He didn’t voice concern directly.
Instead, he said, “When we get to Yan Jinge’s place, you know what you should say-and what you shouldn’t-right?”
The secretary answered softly, “I do.”
She stole a glance at Bai Wei.
Her thoughts were a mess.
One moment, she was thinking about that imposing line of lawyers she’d seen earlier.
The next, she was thinking about the phone call she’d made to Yan Jinge that morning…
Judging by Bai Wei’s expression, he didn’t seem to know about the call yet.
And she didn’t know whether Yan Jinge would get angry when he saw her-whether he’d complain to President Bai…
“Mm.”
Bai Wei had no idea what was going through her head.
He said indifferently, “Later, stop by the mall and buy a comfortable new pair of shoes. Pick up some jewelry while you’re at it. Didn’t you say you really like gemstones? A girl can’t go around without taking proper care of herself.”
The secretary’s eyes lit up.
She immediately shoved everything else out of her mind and said sweetly, “Okay. Thank you, President Bai.”
President Bai must have her in his heart.
Otherwise, why would he be willing to spend money buying her things?
The car headed straight for the Yan Family residence.
The two families lived in the same residential compound.
There was no issue with security refusing them entry.
But the moment Bai Wei parked in front of the Yan Family’s gate, the Yan Family’s housekeeper decided to meddle.
He came out carrying a pair of hedge shears, smiled, and tapped on the car window.
“Mr. Bai, sorry, but your car is blocking the Yan Family’s gate.”
Bai Wei replied coldly, “Then why don’t you open the gate and let me in?”
“That’s even more embarrassing,” the housekeeper said, smile unwavering. “Our young master said the privileges we used to give Mr. Bai won’t be given anymore.”
Bai Wei’s grip tightened abruptly on the steering wheel.
Yan Jinge was serious?
He ignored the way his heart was pounding.
“Where is Yan Jinge?” he demanded. “Tell him to come out and see me. I have something to say to him.”
The housekeeper’s smile widened even further.
“Mr. Bai, I think you might need to see a doctor.”
Bai Wei froze. “What do you mean?”
But the housekeeper didn’t answer Bai Wei.
Instead, he turned to the stunned young woman in the passenger seat.
“You’re Mr. Bai’s secretary? His hearing is clearly having problems…”
“No!” Bai Wei snapped, humiliated and furious.
The housekeeper looked shocked.
“Is that so? Then why can’t you understand what I just said? I clearly told you: your privileges are gone. From now on, if you want to visit the Yan Family, you must follow the normal procedure-make an appointment first.”
An appointment?
When had Bai Wei ever been humiliated like this?
Back in high school, Yan Jinge had had a crush on him.
They got together in college.
From then on, Bai Wei came and went from the Yan Family home as casually as if it were his own.
In those days, even the housekeeper had to bow when he saw him.
And now?
He dared to defy him like this?
All because of a single night…
Bai Wei stared coldly at the housekeeper. The memory of the engagement night, of the indifferent way Yan Jinge had looked at him, flashed through his mind and ignited his temper. He snapped, “Like master, like dog.”
The secretary in the passenger seat jolted, feeling somehow implicated.
The housekeeper kept smiling, completely unfazed. “Mr. Bai, please leave. Otherwise, I’ll have to call the police.”
Bai Wei’s brows knit together. He was now both a board member and the acting CEO of Rongding Technology; countless eyes were on him. If this got dragged into the open, it would look very bad.
Hearing that, no matter how unwilling he was, he could only drive off.
But he didn’t go far. He parked a short distance away, sat in the driver’s seat, lit a cigarette, and glowered at the Yan Family’s front gates through a haze of smoke.
Unfortunately for him, Yan Jinge wasn’t home.
He was at the company.
The Yan Family’s company.
Yan Group had held a solid position in the industry for over a decade. It had already spun off many subsidiaries and diversified its business. Its more well-known ventures were chain hotels and construction materials, but its main focus was still on electronic product development.
In recent years, though, because the company had clung to its existing market and didn’t dare to take risks, Yan Group had started sliding downhill. It had been repeatedly trampled and crushed by Rongding Technology, the company Bai Wei founded, and its prospects were looking worse and worse.
Yan Wei hadn’t said it out loud, but he’d already begun, vaguely, to consider a strategic shift to avoid clashing head-on with Rongding.
In the office, however, Yan Jinge cut straight to the point. “There’s no need to be afraid of him.”
“Easy to say, but the few products Rongding has put on the market are very popular with users right now…” Even Yan Wei couldn’t help frowning.
Rongding’s technology was indisputably solid, even praised by higher-ups by name.
Yan Jinge let out a low chuckle. “Yan Corporation’s getting suppressed now simply because our product tech can’t match Rongding’s, and we suck at marketing. But… Dad, I have the technology.”
When he called him “Dad,” his tone was calm, but it somehow carried a hint of coaxing, making Yan Wei’s mind go blank for a moment.
How long had it been since Jinge called him that?
Yan Wei couldn’t help looking over at him.
Although Yan Jinge was dressed in a sharp suit, he was leaning lazily against the floor-to-ceiling window at the moment, nothing like a polished corporate elite-more like a laid-back young master.
Sunlight streamed in and fell across him, making his already fair skin look almost translucent.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, long lashes rimmed with light.
…How did he end up liking men?
Irritation welled up in Yan Wei for no reason, but he also knew you couldn’t change something like sexual orientation. He only hated that Bai Wei was a scheming man who’d led his son astray and wasted so many years of his precious youth.
As he was brooding, he suddenly froze, then came back to his senses and looked at Yan Jinge. “You have the technology? Don’t tell me-” Don’t tell me those products Rongding launched were all developed by him?
Back then, to better prepare his son to inherit the family business, Yan Wei had forced him, while studying business administration in university, to double-major in electrical and computer engineering.
At the time, Yan Jinge had even represented the school in several competitions and brought home all kinds of tech awards.
But later, he’d chased after Bai Wei and done one foolish thing after another. That had completely overshadowed everyone’s impression of his academic side, leaving only a stream of juicy gossip for people to talk about.
Yan Jinge hummed nonchalantly.
When he entered this world, all of the original owner’s memories came with him. The knowledge the original had gained-and his native talent in the field-were all there.
In his previous life, he hadn’t been in this line of work. But now, he instinctively understood how to do things in a way that would make more money.
Yan Wei was both delighted and angry. “You brat, you spent all these years working as Bai Wei’s secretary, doing unpaid labor for him? You handed over all that credit for nothing. Your name doesn’t appear anywhere among the developers; outsiders all think Bai Wei did it by himself. For the last couple of years people have been fawning over him, flattering him day and night, and you weren’t even mad… Get over here! Let me beat some sense into you!”
He said it, but obviously had no real intention of laying a hand on him.
Yan Jinge let his gaze linger on him a couple more moments, his eyes warming with a hint of a smile. “I won’t let that happen again.”
As he spoke, his eyes drifted beyond the vast pane of glass, toward the high-rise where Rongding Technology was located.
Precisely because someone had paved the road, everything had gone far too smoothly. With so many people lifting him up and flattering him incessantly, Bai Wei had slowly gotten bloated with pride, actually starting to believe he was that capable.
The original owner had been ridiculous too. For the sake of Bai Wei’s fragile pride, he’d never told him how many late nights he and the product development team had pulled after Bai Wei left the office.
Once those people heard that Yan Jinge had resigned, they should make the smart choice.
After discussing the company’s future development and reaching a satisfying conclusion, Yan Wei took him home. By then, night had quietly fallen.
Drowsiness weighed heavy on Yan Jinge.
One hand hooked around his seat belt, his head kept dipping forward.
When the car approached the Yan Family’s gates, the ornate iron doors swung open. The driver steered the car, about to pull smoothly through, when a pair of high beams suddenly cut across their path.
The driver instinctively slowed down.
“Yan Jinge!” Bai Wei’s voice rang out, thick with anger.
