Seduced the Obsessive NPC and Ran - chapter 6
Yan Jinge frowned.
That blinding white light had just swept across and stabbed into his eyes, making him a little irritated. When he heard Bai Wei shouting not far away, a cold sneer tugged at his lips.
The driver saw this and turned back to ask in a tentative tone, “Young Master Yan?”
“Stop the car,” Yan Jinge said coolly.
Yan Wei couldn’t help looking at him.
It was as if Yan Jinge knew exactly what he was thinking. He laid his palm over the back of Yan Wei’s hand. “Dad, don’t worry.”
Yan Wei snorted. “…You’re a grown man. What’s there for me to worry about?”
Yet as he spoke, his gaze drifted to Jinge’s face.
Yan Jinge didn’t move.
His long lashes lowered, casting a small shadow across his face. He was sitting there utterly composed, rolling the window down and calmly watching as Bai Wei climbed out of his car in a fury and strode toward them.
A woman in high heels hurried along behind Bai Wei-his secretary, the one who had called Jinge earlier, scolding him for not showing up to work.
The two of them drew closer.
Bai Wei stood outside the car, looming over him at close range.
The secretary, on the other hand, seemed wary. She stayed a little farther back, looking toward Yan Jinge inside the car.
Yan Jinge didn’t spare Bai Wei so much as a glance.
Head lowered, phone in hand, he was simultaneously messaging the legal team and learning that Bai Wei had never shown up, having his secretary fob them off with the excuse of a meeting. All the while, he asked blandly, as if nothing were amiss, “What do you want with me?”
His tone was flat and indifferent.
Bai Wei froze.
That morning, the Yan Family’s butler had turned him away at the door. Seething with anger, he’d sat in his car from morning till afternoon, and from afternoon till night. By the end of it, he was almost numb.
Several times, the secretary beside him had opened her mouth as if to speak, wanting to persuade him to stop this pointless waiting. Even Bai Wei himself had been tempted to leave. But as the time cost of waiting climbed bit by bit, he only grew more hesitant-what if he left, and the moment he drove off, Yan Jinge came home?
Wouldn’t that mean the entire day he’d waited had been for nothing!?
So he kept hesitating, and before he knew it, night had fallen.
Bai Wei had essentially wasted an entire precious day just to wait for Yan Jinge to appear.
And now that Jinge had finally shown up, he asked him this kind of stupid question?
What do you think I’m here for!!!
What else could I be here for???
Bai Wei was furious, but he’d come here with a goal, and he knew it-he was here to coax him.
No matter how badly he wanted to blow up, Bai Wei still softened his tone, first respectfully greeting Yan Wei seated beside Jinge, then saying, “Jinge, what happened before was my fault, I admit that. Yesterday, because of the engagement, I was happy and I drank too much, that’s why I did what I did and said such ridiculous things. I regretted it as soon as I walked out the door and have been reflecting on it all day. I’ve been waiting here since this morning, hoping you’d forgive me and come home with me.”
He deliberately emphasized the word “home,” then added, “Back to our home.”
Wasn’t that exactly what Yan Jinge had wanted most before-to have a home with him?
If he gave Jinge that, wouldn’t that be enough?
At last, Yan Jinge lifted his head and looked at him. “If you came here just to say that, then I accept your apology.”
A flicker of joy flashed through Bai Wei’s heart.
He knew it.
Yan Jinge was easy to coax.
Look at that.
He’d only said a few words, and Jinge had already forgiven him.
Bai Wei’s face lit up. He reached for the door. “Jinge, then let’s-”
He broke off-the door wouldn’t open.
What was going on?
Was Yan Jinge playing with him again?
A muscle jumped in Bai Wei’s cheek, his gaze flashing with a hint of accusation, but he quickly smoothed it over and forced a couple of laughs. “Jinge, since you’ve forgiven me, why aren’t you getting out of the car? It’s so late, you must not have eaten yet. I drove over myself today, I’ll take you to that revolving restaurant you used to love and we’ll have Japanese, alright?”
As he spoke, he tilted his head slightly and called past Jinge toward Yan Wei, “Dad-”
He had barely gotten the word out when Yan Jinge cut him off, sounding genuinely puzzled. “Who said I was getting out of the car? Since you’ve apologized, hurry up and leave. Oh, and remember to receive the Yan Family’s legal team tomorrow. They’re not young anymore, they waited for you all day… Or is it that the dignified CEO of Rongding Technology only knows how to run away when something happens, without even the courage to face it?”
“?” Bai Wei was stunned.
He blurted out, reflexively, “Of course not!”
“Good,” Jinge said mildly. “Then I hope the next time I hear from you tomorrow, it’s to tell me you’ve finished signing the check, or that you’re already on the phone with the bank president.”
He raised the window.
Bai Wei froze, watching as that exquisitely handsome yet utterly expressionless face slowly disappeared from view, while Jinge muttered under his breath, “Let’s go. I thought Bai Wei came to talk about the legal team or my resignation. Didn’t expect it was just to apologize. How boring…”
The window slid up all the way, reflecting back a stiff, bloodless face.
Bai Wei involuntarily took a step back.
…Was his complexion really that bad?
The car rolled past him, drove through the carved gates into the garden. The instant its rear bumper cleared the threshold, the gates swung shut again, as if terrified someone outside might sneak in.
Bai Wei stood where he was, utterly dazed, still not quite processing what had just happened.
“…Pr-President Bai.” His secretary’s voice sounded behind him.
He turned.
The secretary walked closer, looking at him with concern. “President Bai, Yan Jinge’s changed. He dared to embarrass you like that right in front of the driver and me. You waited here an entire day for him, and he didn’t say a single word of concern. Maybe… maybe you should just cut ties with him. It really hurts to see you like this. You’re a favored son of heaven, so outstanding-when have you ever had to swallow this kind of humiliation? And why should you have to endure it now?”
The secretary spoke in a sorrowful tone, her heart pounding wildly.
Ever since she found out that Yan Jinge’s home was in this neighborhood, she’d realized he really wasn’t as ordinary as he’d always seemed. He must be loaded.
But what did that have to do with her?
Now that Bai Wei had taken a hit, it was the perfect time for her to swoop in.
Even though small details had shown her that Bai Wei’s personality wasn’t quite what she’d imagined either, if she wanted to marry into wealth and live the life of a rich man’s wife, this was her only chance.
Her one and only chance.
Bai Wei clenched his jaw.
He shot the secretary a glare and said coldly, “You don’t know anything.”
If not for that thirty million breakup gift, Bai Wei could’ve afforded not to care.
But…
On the way back to the car, the more he thought about it, the more enraged he became. He lashed out and kicked a metal trash can. It clanged loudly, making the secretary following behind him flinch and hunch her shoulders.
“Bitch,” Bai Wei muttered under his breath.
After that, he didn’t say another word. The two of them walked back to the car in heavy silence.
The secretary hurried to open the driver’s door. “President Bai, let me drive.”
Bai Wei’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He didn’t object.
In his current state, he really wasn’t fit to be behind the wheel.
The secretary’s heels were too high, so she simply took them off, set them aside, and drove barefoot.
On the road, her eyes turned slightly red.
She kept sneaking looks at Bai Wei in the backseat through the rearview mirror. In the end, she couldn’t hold back. “President Bai. Actually… ever since our last business trip, you should’ve realized how I feel about you. I only found out today that Yan Jinge’s family is very wealthy. That breakup fee he asked you to return must be a lot, but I’m willing to put up all my savings to help shoulder part of it…”
Bai Wei slowly opened his eyes.
He stared at the secretary in silence for a moment, as if trying to read something from her expression.
Then he gave her a faint smile that vanished almost instantly. His face was serious, but his tone carried a gentle indulgence. “Silly girl, how could I let you pay for me? I’m a man.”
The secretary said softly, “But we girls aren’t just supposed to hide behind a man’s back. When something happens, of course we want to share the burden with the man we love and move forward together through thick and thin.”
She’d deliberately pitched her voice higher; it sounded almost like she was acting cute.
The car fell silent again.
After a while, Bai Wei said, “Don’t go to the office. Go home.”
The secretary blinked. “Okay.”
The car quickly turned around and headed back.
…
Yan Jinge slept like a log that night, without a single dream.
Early the next morning, just as he came downstairs for breakfast, he saw Yan Qingyu standing in the living room with his luggage, looking utterly wronged.
Their gazes met. Yan Qingyu’s eyes almost overflowed with tears. He jabbed a finger at Yan Jinge and snapped, “Don’t think that just because I’m leaving, you can smoothly take over at Yan Corporation. I’m telling you, running a company is nothing like what you think!”
Yan Jinge’s face cooled. “Put your finger down.”
Yan Qingyu instantly yanked his hand back.
Like a quail.
-In the past, Yan Qingyu definitely wouldn’t have been afraid of Yan Jinge, but ever since the night before last, when he’d been humiliatingly pinned to the bed by Yan Jinge, his pants yanked down and his ass smacked, he’d started to fear him. Deep down, he’d also developed a vague sense that Yan Jinge was no longer someone he could handle.
“It wasn’t like this before… Why is Yan Jinge so terrifying now?”
Yan Qingyu muttered under his breath.
His aura was completely different from before-brighter, more dazzling-but somehow that just made him scarier.
As he was thinking this, Ning Zhuyun came downstairs. She caught sight of the two brothers’ standoff and frowned. “Didn’t I tell you to come down and apologize? What are you standing there for?”
Yan Qingyu was the type who only reacted after being hit with a stick.
Only then did he stammer, “Big Brother, what I did before went too far. I’m sorry.”
Ning Zhuyun raised a brow. “Hmm?”
Yan Qingyu dropped to his knees with a heavy thud.
Yan Jinge: “?”
Yan Jinge was a little surprised.
Yan Qingyu’s face twisted with humiliation, his mouth stretching wide as he wailed, “I was wrong, Big Brother.”
Ning Zhuyun sat down across from Yan Jinge and said unhurriedly, “Your brother’s gotten too wild lately, almost impossible to keep in line. In the past, whenever he caused trouble, your father and I covered it up as best we could. But this time he went too far, bullying you like that. He should’ve been made to kneel that night, but he wasn’t in great shape then… Your dad and I talked it over, and we’ve decided to send him back to the old house in the mountains for three months.”
The Yan Family’s old estate was up in the mountains with no cell signal. For modern people used to their phones, it was basically like becoming an ascetic monk.
Yan Jinge made a noncommittal sound.
Ning Zhuyun glanced at him but couldn’t read whether he was satisfied with this or not.
All she could do was clear her throat lightly and lower her gaze. “Let’s eat.”
After breakfast.
Yan Qingyu, lugging his suitcase, was driven by the chauffeur back to the mountain to film his own episode of “Back to the Primitive.”
Yan Jinge, on the other hand, went to the company again with Yan Wei.
This time, Yan Wei didn’t go through the parking garage. He personally led Yan Jinge through the main entrance of Yan Group. “HR is processing your onboarding information right now. Go over there on Monday. Today, just get familiar with the staff in the tech department and the projects they’re working on…”
Yan Jinge responded lazily, then suddenly caught a glimpse of a figure darting into a distant elevator.
That figure looked a little familiar.
