Shocked, I'm the Favorites in the Survival Game - chapter 12
In the blink of an eye, Chu Yian grabbed the car’s bumper with both hands and slid directly underneath the vehicle.
All the zombies outside immediately rushed in her direction.
Lying under the car, Chu Yian watched as more and more zombies gathered around, slamming into the vehicle with loud bangs.
She couldn’t stay there any longer.
Crawling on the ground, she moved forward under the cars. Because two vehicles had rear-ended each other, there was no gap between them, allowing Chu Yian to safely crawl under the second car.
She took a deep breath, then sprinted on all fours, dashing under the third car.
“Roar-!”
The zombie horde behind her grew restless again.
Their footsteps thudded on the ground, each step pounding in her chest.
Chu Yian was so tense her ears rang, her back drenched in sweat. She was terrified that a zombie might suddenly drop down and meet her eyes under the car.
Wait-
Don’t panic.
Every muscle in her body was taut as she kept reassuring herself.
Just then, a sudden ringtone blared from one of the cars behind her. A strong male voice belted out a heroic song: “The great river flows east, the stars in the sky join the Big Dipper, hey hey, join the Big Dipper…”
Hearing this powerful singing, the zombies that had been surrounding the cars behind her instantly went berserk, frantically smashing into the vehicles.
This was Chu Yian’s phone, set to go off with an alarm two minutes later.
With only 13% battery left, her phone was making its final stand. As the song “If we say go, we go” played, Chu Yian crawled out from under the car and sprinted madly toward the service area.
Cars!
High-chassis cars!
A row of all kinds of vehicles came into view, dazzling her. In the end, Chu Yian chose the one with the highest chassis!
Because the chassis was so high, the door was also a bit elevated.
She climbed up using the footstep, and as soon as she opened the door, a zombie inside the cab lunged at her. The zombie was only two fists away-Chu Yian could even see bits of human tissue still stuck to its teeth.
At that moment, the zombie needed only 0.1 seconds to bite her.
Chu Yian’s body reacted faster than her mind. With a swift swing of her right hand, she smashed a solid gold, one-cubic-meter treasure chest at it. The zombie’s face was flattened instantly, blood, pus, and brain matter splattering everywhere, filling the cab with a foul stench.
Holding her breath, Chu Yian dragged the zombie she’d just killed outside. Learning from this lesson, she gripped her pistol in one hand and the treasure chest in the other, carefully checking the rest of the vehicle.
Fortunately, there was only this one zombie.
The key was still in the ignition.
There were also two spare tires hanging at the back of the vehicle.
She did a quick check-the car seemed almost brand new, about ninety percent new, and judging by the logo, it looked like a BMW. Compared to the van from before, the difference was like night and day.
Just as Chu Yian was feeling pleased with her new find, hurried footsteps echoed from the service area.
Lu Qingyuan, who had gone to look for gasoline, was back.
He was carrying two large cans of gasoline, with a horde of zombies chasing behind him. Swinging the cans to fend off the zombies, he vaulted over a car in front of him, quickly shaking off the horde and dashing toward the row of vehicles where they had agreed to meet.
“Teacher Lu, I’m here!”
Chu Yian leaned against the windshield, waving at him with all her might.
Lu Qingyuan saw her. Even a man who remained unfazed while being chased by a swarm of zombies was visibly stunned when he saw her.
He’d told her to find a high-chassis off-road vehicle, but she’d found… a big truck.
A heavy-duty truck.
Even the well-traveled Teacher Lu almost failed to react in time.
“Teacher Lu, hurry up!”
Chu Yian looked at the zombies chasing from behind and reached out her hand to him.
There was no time to switch vehicles.
Lu Qingyuan grabbed her hand and leapt fiercely toward the vehicle.
They got in and shut the door.
The tires of this truck alone were over a meter high; the zombies could only reach their feet, giving a tremendous sense of security.
A heavy truck was still different from a small car, but the basics were similar. Chu Yian started driving just as she would a small car, stomping on the accelerator, and all the zombies blocking the way were knocked flying.
When driving a van, even a single hit from a zombie made you worry about flipping over. But a heavy truck was a true road-clearing machine.
Crashing into zombies,
Crashing into vehicles,
They barreled straight through, smashing out of the service area under the pursuit of hundreds of zombies. The wheels rolled over zombie bodies-what a rush!
“Teacher Lu, I really should have listened to you.”
Chu Yian couldn’t help but flatter Lu Qingyuan; driving a heavy truck and driving a van were two completely different experiences.
Lu Qingyuan: …
He’d told her to find an SUV, and she went straight for a big truck. He’d never seen anyone so “obedient” before.
“Are you tired? If you are, you can rest in the back for a bit.”
Chu Yian pulled open the curtain behind her; the humanized heavy truck had a single bed in the back. She had checked the vehicle earlier and knew exactly what was inside.
Lu Qingyuan: …
This was already the second time he was left speechless.
But in Chu Yian’s eyes, who could refuse a clean bed? After several invitations, the cold-faced Teacher Lu actually lay down on the bed.
“Teacher Lu, let’s each rest for three hours, okay?” Chu “Mount Akina Truck God” Yian arranged.
##
Night
On the silent highway, the truck with blazing headlights roared past. Occasionally, zombies heard the noise and gave chase, only to be quickly left behind.
Without a phone, Chu Yian relied on her instincts to wake Lu Qingyuan, then switched to the small bed in the back to rest.
She didn’t sleep soundly; even in her dreams, nightmares kept surfacing.
She didn’t know how much time had passed when the vehicle began to stop and start, moving more slowly.
Chu Yian sat up abruptly, her sense of crisis instantly banishing all sleepiness. “What’s wrong?”
“We’ve reached City X.”
They had arrived at City X!
Chu Yian instantly shook off her drowsiness at those words and returned to the passenger seat, only to see the vehicle surrounded by shadows.
She gasped, “There are so many zombies in City X!”
“They’re not zombies. They’re people.”
Clearly, Chu Yian wasn’t the only one who had heard the rescue information over the radio. Many people had learned through radio or word of mouth that Fulun County was a rescue point.
From City X to Fulun County, it was still a forty-minute drive.
Anyone who could get a car had already left; those remaining were people who wanted to go but had no way to leave. After finally spotting a vehicle with plenty of space, everyone wanted to squeeze in.
Fear of zombies and the desperate desire to survive had driven these people mad.
More and more people blocked the front of the truck, shaking the vehicle, climbing onto the roof, and some even threw stones at the windows.
The vehicle was forced to a standstill. Lu Qingyuan frowned tightly, “How many bullets do you have left?”
