Chu Yian turned to him when she heard this. “Where are those ambulances going?”

“Seems like the high-speed rail station.”

The driver answered offhandedly. The car had only gone a short distance, just rounded a corner and passed a traffic light, when traffic ahead came to a halt. “Man, the traffic today is insane.”

Sitting beside him, Chu Yian saw him open a chat group with his colleagues.

“Even Shigang Road is jammed today. Is it crowded near the Shopping Mall?”

“What a coincidence, I’m stuck in the middle section of the Shopping Mall.”

“The high-speed rail station and long-distance bus station just got sealed off. I heard there was a vicious fight-people were stabbing and biting each other. Don’t go over.”

“There’s been a fight at the Shopping Mall too. Looks like it spread from the high-speed rail station. Damn, I just saw someone’s intestines were ripped out. It’s kind of terrifying. You guys really shouldn’t come…”

The messages in the WeChat group made the three roommates in the back fall silent.

“There was a fight at the Shopping Mall?”

Everyone’s first reaction was to check social media for news. Chu Yian did the same. Meanwhile, police motorcycles kept weaving through the gaps between cars ahead. The situation looked serious.

“Maybe we shouldn’t go after all.”

The slightly chubby roommate was already having second thoughts, but with cars on all sides, they were trapped on the road.

The driver unbuckled his seatbelt and got out to check. Chu Yian leaned out the window for a look.

All those people were running away from the Shopping Mall, which meant something bad had happened up ahead. Combined with what she’d just heard on the driver’s phone…

She suddenly got out of the car and called her three roommates to follow.

But the three roommates didn’t move, looking conflicted and clearly preferring to stay inside the car.

“It’s only two or three kilometers to school from here. If we run, we might get back faster. The school is definitely safer than sitting in the car.”

Chu Yian crouched down to tie her shoelaces tightly as she explained.

As the saying goes, don’t stand beneath a collapsing wall. If they didn’t come with her, she would run alone.

A deafening explosion erupted ahead. Several cars were tossed by the shockwave, and even more people came rushing around the corner. Some among them were extremely violent, chasing and attacking others and smashing into vehicles.

“What are you standing there for? Run!”

A man running toward them shouted at Chu Yian, finally making her decision for her.

Chu Yian stopped worrying about the three in the car and followed him, running toward the school. But the man in front had only run a few steps before he crashed heavily into a car nearby.

Chu Yian was about to help when a couple rushed over and supported him. She saw that a chunk of flesh had been bitten from the man’s arm, blood soaking through his shirt.

“Oh my god!”

The woman took a deep breath and said to her husband, “He needs to go to the hospital!”

Just as they took out their phone to call for help, the injured man suddenly began convulsing, and in the next second, lunged at the woman’s husband.

He began biting and gnawing!

The man who had just kindly urged her to run now seemed like a completely different person, making Chu Yian break out in a cold sweat even though she was only a few steps away.

The driver who hadn’t left got back into his car. As soon as he shut the doors and windows, a grotesque figure-drooling at the corners of his mouth-burst from the crowd and crashed hard into the windshield.

At that moment, the shrill city alarm suddenly blared.

The couple behind them climbed up from the ground and, in an extremely bizarre posture, lunged at the nearest person.

All around, people trying to escape jostled and shoved one another.

The cars that could still move were careening madly through the streets.

Everyone around had gone insane!

Chu Yian dodged a car that nearly hit her, vaulted over its hood, and sprinted forward for her life.

“Bang!”

The sound of a crash came from behind. “Yi’an!”

One of her roommates, who had been following her, had been hit. She was pinned between the vehicle and the wall, the back of her head striking the wall and bleeding bright red.

Inside the red car that had hit her, the driver’s neck hung with large chunks of bloody flesh, exposing his gums and the white bone of his lower jaw. His pupils were no larger than mung beans. He kept gnashing his teeth and smashed his head violently against the glass.

Within just a few strikes, the glass shattered. The man inside howled and lunged to bite the injured roommate. The last roommate, still on the other side of the car, was so terrified her legs gave out and she screamed.

There was no way to save her.

Chu Yian grabbed the roommate closest to her and kept running desperately.

By now, there were crazed people everywhere-both ahead and behind. Chu Yian didn’t dare look around, keeping her eyes fixed on the school gate five hundred meters away.

A security guard was standing at the entrance with a walkie-talkie, and the electronic gate had already begun to close.

At the last moment, Chu Yian dragged her only remaining roommate to the entrance, shouting to the security guard blocking their way, “Students, we’re students from the school!”

They had finally made it in.

Chu Yian squatted down, gasping for breath, her eyes on the gate.

The security guard stood with a riot shield and a pitchfork, stopping those trying to get in. She saw one of the security guards get bitten by a madman.

Outside the gate, the crazed and the normal people were all mixed together.

And just a few steps away, the fence design was useless at keeping people out. Many desperate people were climbing over and coming in from outside.

This place wasn’t safe either.

She grabbed her only roommate and ran toward the dormitory building. Along the way, quite a few teachers and students were still standing around, watching the chaos.

“Run! Hurry, run!”

Chu Yian didn’t dare look back. Even running, it would still take ten minutes to reach the dormitory from the school gate.

Why did the school have to be so big!

It was the first time she resented how large the school was.
