“Students, teachers, there is a large-scale riot in the city. All those still outdoors, please seek shelter in the nearest indoor location. All those already indoors, please close doors and windows and wait for rescue!

Repeating: all those still outdoors, please find the nearest indoor shelter. All those indoors, close doors and windows and wait for res… Close the door, quickly!”

The broadcast was interrupted by the sound of hurried footsteps, followed by a piercing scream that shot through the nerves of everyone in the school.

“Ah-”

A terrified scream rang out, and panic swept through the crowd.

Chu Yian dragged her only remaining roommate as they sprinted, but her roommate suddenly stopped at the second teaching building. “Yian, the broadcast said we should find the nearest building to take shelter.”

She pointed to a nearby classroom where people were closing the windows. Someone inside was waving them in.

“There are too many people.”

Chu Yian glanced at it, then kept running toward the dormitory building.

But her roommate didn’t want to go any further.

“Yian, I can’t run anymore. Besides, there are so many people in the classroom. If everyone works together, it’s definitely safer than just the two of us.”

She shook off Chu Yian’s hand and ran straight to the window, reaching up so someone inside could pull her in. Then she looked back at Chu Yian. “Come on!”

Chu Yian shook her head. This wouldn’t work.

Those maniacs had no regard for their own lives-they could smash through a car windshield with their heads, and they could just as easily break the classroom windows. The teaching building wasn’t much safer than outside.

Their dorm was on the sixth floor, with no windows in the hallway, and the entrance could be barricaded. They could observe the situation downstairs from a distance, and there was enough drinking water inside to meet basic needs. That was the best place to take shelter.

But everyone makes their own choices.

Let go of the urge to help, and respect others’ fates.

Screams and footsteps were getting closer. Chu Yian couldn’t worry about her anymore and took off running again.

Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a bicycle parked under the teaching building. It wasn’t locked.

Time to borrow it!

She hopped on and pedaled furiously toward the dormitory.

“Yian!”

Her roommate watched Chu Yian’s retreating figure from the classroom window, feeling a mix of blame and worry, but mostly the terror and fear of barely escaping with her life.

“It’s okay now, it’s okay.”

Other students came over to comfort her. “We’re safe in the classroom.”

But before they finished speaking, more people came running toward the teaching building.

“Ah-!”

“Help!”

“Open the door!”

The students inside were just about to help, when a blood-covered person ran up to the window and slammed into it with all their might. Blood from their forehead and mouth smeared across the glass, and the person kept ramming it, tireless and crazed. Soon, more people crashed into the window.

The classroom didn’t last even half a minute before they broke in…

Meanwhile-

Chu Yian pedaled furiously and finally reached the dormitory building.

By now, many others were also rushing toward the dorm. She blended in with the crowd and ran back as fast as she could. She shut the door and locked it.

She dragged out all the chairs and suitcases in the dorm, piling them up against the door to barricade it, then collapsed onto the floor, gasping for breath. She’d used up all her strength escaping from the street.

Chu Yian didn’t dare rest for long. She got up and began to assess her surroundings.

The dormitory building had six floors, no elevator, and she was on the top floor. The building was a bit old, but the walls were freshly painted white and the door was a new security door-probably recently renovated.
She glanced at the water dispenser, which still had about a third of its water left, then found a basin and turned on the tap.

While filling the basin, she naturally stepped out onto the balcony and looked outside.

The view here was wide and open; she could see the sports field, as well as the avenues leading to the cafeteria and the third phase of the teaching building.

Downstairs, many people were still running around like headless flies, searching for places to hide. Some, having never faced those lunatics directly, ran while looking back, lacking any real sense of crisis.

The crisis was still spreading.

Outside the teaching building, the number of crazed people had reached a terrifying level. They were swarming together, charging toward the dormitory building. Chu Yian saw one idiot running slowly-not only that, but he was filming them with his phone.

Then, he was knocked down.

At least three people were biting him, and someone tried to save him, only to be knocked down as well. Chu Yian stood upstairs, watching as the person in the center was torn apart and devoured by these lunatics, a bloody severed arm thrown onto the lawn.

But within seconds, the person who had been eaten until only one arm remained came back to life, crawling with that remaining arm.

They weren’t just lunatics-they were zombies!

The faint scent of blood hung in the air, her stomach churning violently. She finally couldn’t hold it in and ran to the bathroom to vomit.

After throwing up, she returned to the balcony.

The zombies downstairs split into two groups: one rushed toward the cafeteria and sports field, the other circled to the dormitory building below.

Thudding footsteps echoed up the stairs, and cries for help rang throughout the building.

Chu Yian didn’t dare open the door.

She quickly turned off the lights in her room, retreating to the farthest corner from the door, gripping the clothes-drying rod tightly in her hands.

Footsteps sounded outside-it was people running for their lives.

The people outside were banging desperately on doors, hoping someone inside would let them in.

It was afternoon, but the corridor’s poor lighting was a common problem in almost every school dormitory. Because Chu Yian had turned off her room’s lights in advance, everyone running up skipped her room without exception.

She didn’t dare get close, only listened from afar.

Many dorms chose to open their doors and let people in, but while the first ones up were seeking help, the ones following behind were those lunatics.

Low growls and roars erupted, mingled with screams of people being attacked in the corridors and some dorm rooms.

In an instant,

the dormitory building became a living hell.

Sweat pooled in Chu Yian’s palm as she gripped the clothes-drying rod, her mind blank, until she heard voices from the neighboring dorm-

“Block it, use more force!”

“Don’t come in! We’ve already called the police!”

The neighboring dorm’s door was being rammed by the infected outside. Their threats only provoked even more frenzied attacks.

Chu Yian ran to the balcony to check on the situation next door, but below her, on every floor, students were being forced onto the balconies by the invading lunatics. Some, with nowhere left to run, jumped straight down from above.

“Help! Help!”

The cries for help came from next door.

The neighboring dorm’s door was broken down, and the people inside were forced onto the balcony.

The only barrier between the balcony and the room was a glass sliding door. The thin glass wouldn’t hold the zombies back for long. As they leaned out, they saw Chu Yian also standing on her balcony, treating her as their last hope.

But the dorm balconies were recessed, separated by a thick wall in the middle and a gap of two or three meters-there was no way to climb across.

At that moment, the infected broke in.

From Chu Yian’s vantage point, she saw many bloodstained hands dragging the two people down from the railing…
