Novel Info

Forget it-what if he’s a zombie? She could barely protect herself; it was better not to worry about anyone else.

Chu Yian comforted herself and got ready to drive her electric tricycle straight ahead.

But then, the person inside the car moved, drawing “SOS” in blood on the transparent glass.

His face was pale.

Their eyes met…

How did their eyes meet like that!

Chu Yian, annoyed, pulled up the handbrake. She clearly wanted to look out for herself, but her good upbringing made it impossible to just watch someone die.

Let’s give it a try.

She rummaged inside the electric tricycle and found an iron wrench. Taking advantage of most of the zombies being trapped under the tent, she left the electric tricycle, climbed onto the roof of the crashed cars, and reached the vehicle where the man was trapped.

He was surprisingly good-looking. Even with his pale face, lowered eyes, and blood-stained white shirt, there was a kind of fragile beauty about him.

Chu Yian froze for a second, then quickly snapped back to her senses. “Big brother, were you bitten?”

He might be handsome, but looks won’t save him. If he’d been bitten, Chu Yian would have run instead of trying to save him.

“No, it’s someone else’s blood.”

So… just because you say it’s someone else’s blood, I’m supposed to believe you?

Chu Yian’s already shaky resolve to help became even shakier.

The man in the car seemed to see right through her behind his gold-rimmed glasses. “If you’re bitten by a zombie, you’ll turn in 10–12 seconds. Didn’t you notice the blood on my clothes is almost dry?

Save me now. We have thirty seconds to escape.”

His voice was calm, but inexplicably steady and forceful.

Chu Yian looked at the iron wrench in her hand and smashed it hard against the car window.

With a bang, the window didn’t budge, but her hand went numb from the shock.

“This car has been specially modified. You can’t break it from the outside.”

The man reached out and pressed a button somewhere. The front windshield slowly lowered. “Now press the red button on the driver’s seat.”

Chu Yian did as he said.

The next moment, the man’s seatbelt was released, and a hidden compartment popped open on the roof, with a handgun inside.

What kind of car is this? So high-tech.

As an ordinary citizen, Chu Yian couldn’t help but look inside, wide-eyed.

“Help me.”

The man reached out his hand.

Chu Yian grabbed him and pulled hard. The man frowned slightly but let himself be dragged out of the car.

He was tall.

Broad shoulders, narrow waist, and long legs.

But there was a wound on his left thigh, with a shard of broken glass still embedded in it.

Chu Yian blurted out, “That’s your blood, right?”

The man didn’t answer. He put one arm on her shoulder for support and, with the other hand, raised the handgun and fired several shots at the zombies breaking free from the tent and charging toward them.

His aim was precise-every shot hit its mark.

But in the quiet city, the sound of gunfire, even if it killed a few zombies, would attract countless more.

Chu Yian pushed aside her curiosity, supported him, and rushed as fast as she could toward the electric tricycle. The man kept shooting zombies blocking their path until Chu Yian finally shoved him into the electric tricycle.

The zombies behind them caught up.

The one in front grabbed onto the rear compartment of the vehicle, howling and trying to tear open the thin metal, wanting to crawl inside.

Hearing the noise behind her, Chu Yian floored the electric tricycle. The zombie’s legs scraped along the ground, leaving shreds of bone and flesh on the road. She made two sharp turns before finally shaking off the zombie clinging to the back.
“Mom, that scared me to death!”

Chu Yian’s lips were trembling from the tension of the journey.

“Just keep going straight along this road. After you cross Pingyu Bridge, turn.”

Compared to Chu Yian’s nervousness, the man beside her spoke in the same calm tone from start to finish. His steady and composed voice somehow made people feel much more at ease.

“Big brother, where are we heading?”

“The outskirts.”

He was a man of few words.

##

Suburbs

As the number of vehicles around them dwindled, finally, there were no more zombies in sight.

Chu Yian parked her electric tricycle by the roadside, then took out two bottles of water, handing one to the man beside her.

“Big brother, my name is Chu Yian, I’m a student at the school. May I ask your surname? Are you a teacher at our school?”

“Lu Qingyuan, researcher. I came to your school to give a lecture.”

Researcher?

Judging by the kind of car he was riding in, he must be some kind of big shot.

In Chu Yian’s mind, she pictured a big shot coming to give a university lecture, only to encounter a sudden zombie virus outbreak. He was escorted out by bodyguards, but ended up trapped in a horde of zombies after a car crash at the gate. All the bodyguards died protecting him, leaving him alone in the car, waiting for rescue.

Then he met her, brave and resourceful.

And then she rescued him with her electric tricycle…

Why did the scene suddenly feel so low-budget?

Chu Yian glanced at her little electric tricycle beneath her, and shook the word “low” out of her mind. “Teacher Lu, I heard on the radio that there’s a rescue point in Fulun County, City X. Would you like to come with me?”

“Mm, sure.”

Chu Yian thought he might refuse, but he agreed so quickly. “Teacher, don’t you have any concerns?”

“No,” Teacher Lu replied succinctly.

Hearing this, Chu Yian couldn’t help but look at him a couple more times.

They were just strangers passing by, yet he trusted her so much-it was actually a little touching.

“Then let’s go to that place to treat your wound, and then find a map to City X and a car we can drive.”

Chu Yian laid out her plan, and asked, “Can you drive? I only learned to drive recently, and my driving skills… still have a lot of room for improvement.”

That “room for improvement” mainly meant she could only handle the clutch and brakes so far, and was still unfamiliar with the accelerator and shifting gears.

“No need to look for a map. I know where City X is.”

Lu Qingyuan’s face was pale from his injury. “Just go to a pharmacy for some antibiotics, alcohol, and tweezers, then find a vehicle with a high chassis, suitable for off-road.”

From the way he spoke, it was clear he was good at driving. He also knew the location of City X, could drive, was clear-headed, and could handle a gun.

Chu Yian felt her newly found companion seemed very reliable.

As for medicine…

She recalled what she’d brought from her dorm that morning: only a few milliliters of alcohol and half a box of amoxicillin left. The most plentiful was montmorillonite powder, which was for diarrhea.

So they still needed to go to a pharmacy.

Passing through the outskirts, following Lu Qingyuan’s directions, they successfully reached a small county town.

The roads and shops were all deserted, and the narrow streets were packed with crashed vehicles. Trash was scattered everywhere, occasional severed limbs could be seen, and the air was thick with the scent of blood…
