Shocked, I'm the Favorites in the Survival Game - chapter 7
Signs everywhere showed the town had already fallen.
Fortunately, there were no zombies on the street.
Chu Yian drove the small electric tricycle, squeezing past the vehicles piled up along the roadside. After driving about 800–900 meters, she found a small clinic with its door open.
The main entrance was half-covered.
The rolling shutter was covered in bloody handprints.
Chu Yian stopped the tricycle and looked at the person sitting beside her. “Is this place okay?”
“This one.”
Lu Qingyuan once again placed his hand on her shoulder, and with his other hand, picked up the only Iron Wrench from the vehicle.
Chu Yian stopped the tricycle and helped him to the entrance.
She went forward alone, bent down and squatted, peering through the gap at the doorway to check the situation inside.
The clinic was a bit dark without lights, and it was empty inside. She didn’t see anyone. “No major problems.”
She helped Lu Qingyuan into the clinic. First, she glanced at the shelves, then looked around the environment, closed the two open doors, and carefully checked some of the less visible corners of the rooms.
Except for a few pools of blood on the floor, the surroundings were safe.
Finally, she pulled the rolling shutter down a bit more, leaving about twenty centimeters from the ground.
“Teacher Lu, sit on the bench for a while.”
With the intention of caring for the wounded, Chu Yian found disinfectant alcohol, bandages, anti-inflammatory medicine, painkillers, and a small knife and tweezers for removing glass in the medicine cabinet.
She had found the supplies, but when it came to the actual procedure…
Holding the tweezers and small knife, she suddenly felt as if her hands weren’t her own.
Lu Qingyuan looked at her for a moment, then took the items from her hands. “Go get some scissors and help me cut open my pants. I’ll do the rest myself.”
“Alright.”
Cutting pants was much easier than operating on a wound.
She cut open his pants and stepped aside. Because the room was too dark, she turned on the flashlight on her phone. The area instantly brightened, clearly illuminating Lu Qingyuan’s already inflamed wound.
Lu Qingyuan paused. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. It’s what I should do.”
Chu Yian stood by and watched him disinfect the tweezers and small knife with alcohol, then poured a whole bottle of alcohol over the wound before gripping the glass with the tweezers and pulling hard.
The previously clotted wound burst open, and blood gushed out.
Chu Yian watched as he slowly pulled the glass out of his thigh. The shard was nearly ten centimeters long, still carrying fresh muscle tissue. Chu Yian could almost feel the pain he must have endured.
Lu Qingyuan leaned his head back, eyes closed.
His breathing was low and heavy, his neck stretched into a long, tense line. His face was even paler than before, but he never uttered a sound.
Seeing him like this, Chu Yian quickly cleaned his wound again with alcohol, sprinkled hemostatic powder over it, and wrapped it with gauze.
Then she poured some water from the nearby dispenser and handed him the anti-inflammatory medicine.
Lu Qingyuan swallowed the medicine. “Wait for me half an hour, then we’ll leave.”
“It’s fine, we’ll go when you feel better.”
Chu Yian found another stool and sat beside him. “Teacher Lu, if you feel uncomfortable anywhere, just call me.”
She’d only ever heard stories of Guan Yu scraping bone to treat his wounds, but seeing Teacher Lu pull a glass shard out with his bare hands truly shocked her.
She glanced at Lu Qingyuan, who now looked as if he had fallen asleep with his eyes closed. Just as she got up to find him a blanket, she suddenly heard the roar of an engine not far away.
The roar was deafening, and the quiet town was filled with a chilling howl.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The door that Chu Yian had just closed was now being battered.
Zombies!
Chu Yian’s expression changed. She reached for her handgun…
At that moment, Lu Qingyuan opened his eyes as well. He grabbed the Iron Wrench placed beside him and, dragging his freshly operated leg, walked to the door being struck. “Stay back.”
He said this to Chu Yian.
The next moment, he opened the door that held the zombie and swung the wrench.
The Iron Wrench embedded itself in the zombie’s head, and brain matter splattered instantly.
Lu Qingyuan’s strength was so great that the zombie in a white lab coat died beyond any hope of revival.
Although the zombies inside the room were cleared out, the roar of exploding engines from vehicles thundered past the entrance. The entire town’s zombies were awakened, their unique howls rising and falling throughout the streets.
“Yo-ho!”
“Come and chase me, you idiots!”
“Everybody, let’s get hyped!!”
Several more cars sped past the door.
A cacophony of shouting, engines, and crashing vehicles… All of this drew zombies from every direction toward these people.
The footsteps of zombies followed closely behind.
Through the shutter door, Chu Yian could clearly see countless feet passing by the entrance of the pharmacy. There was only a single shutter door between them and hundreds, even thousands, of zombies!
Inside, Chu Yian didn’t dare make a sound.
She seemed frozen in place, staring at the endless parade of zombie feet passing by, clutching the hand of the person next to her tightly.
Lu Qingyuan glanced at her, his brows furrowing slightly, but he allowed her to hold onto him.
The zombie horde at the door lasted for nearly five minutes.
The sound of footsteps like raindrops, the constant howling, and the intensely pungent, nauseating odor emanating from the zombies kept their nerves stretched to the limit.
Fortunately, she had lowered the shutter door even further when she first entered.
Though she remained on edge, they were safe for now.
As the suicidal Biker Gang faded into the distance, Chu Yian relaxed a little. Only then did she realize she was still gripping Lu Qingyuan’s hand so tightly that red marks had appeared.
“Sorry.”
Chu Yian released his hand, then hurried to the water dispenser and gulped down two mouthfuls of water.
Lu Qingyuan glanced at his reddened hand but said nothing, returning to the stool Chu Yian had brought over.
They waited in the pharmacy for another twenty minutes or so.
Chu Yian checked the time on her phone-it was already six in the evening. Summer days were always long. It was still bright outside, and she lay on the ground, peering out through the crack beneath the door.
The street trampled by the zombie horde was a complete mess.
Their small tricycle parked outside was now twisted into a heap, completely totaled. A few stray zombies wandered aimlessly outside.
Those suicidal idiots.
Even someone as mild-tempered as Chu Yian couldn’t help but curse inwardly.
“The car outside is wrecked, and there are at least eight zombies wandering around the pharmacy.”
She quietly shared her findings with Lu Qingyuan. “In about an hour, it’ll probably get dark. I don’t think it’s a good idea for us to go out now.”
“Then let’s rest here for the night.”
Lu Qingyuan closed his eyes and continued to recuperate, as if it made no difference whether they arrived at Fulun County sooner or later.
It didn’t affect him much, but it made a big difference for Chu Yian.
So she couldn’t help but ask, “Teacher Lu, how long does it take to get from here to City X?”
“Normally, it takes eight hours by car.”
Eight hours.
Hearing this, Chu Yian relaxed a little. Under normal circumstances, it would take eight hours by car. Now, with the zombie crisis, they still had three days left, which was more than enough.
