Lin Father and Lin Mother were chattering away, but Lin Zhixia wasn’t listening.

She was observing Lin Zhiqing.

In the past, Lin Zhiqing had always been insecure, hiding behind thick bangs, forever dressed in black and gray, looking timid and often overlooked, barely leaving any impression.

Only when someone was fighting her for something, or crushing her pitiful self-esteem, would she reveal her claws, showing a side that was extreme and out of control.

But the person before her now-where was even a trace of that former self?

The heavy bangs were gone…

She was wearing a beautiful long dress that she would never have worn before.

Though she sat casually, her back was straight, the lines of her profile soft yet resilient, even the fingers holding the silver fork exuded a sense of cleanliness and composure.

It was still the same face, but the aura was worlds apart.

She used to be like moss in a gutter, curled up in the damp darkness, unseen by the sun. Now she was like the moon reflected in a cold pool-seemingly beautiful and harmless, yet giving off a sense of danger and lethality.

Lin Zhixia’s fingertips tightened slightly. Was this really the Lin Zhiqing who used to lose control with just a few words from her?

Wasn’t her face, and her hands and feet, all ruined?

Why did she look perfectly fine?

Lin Zhixia remained silent, and Lin Father and Lin Mother thought she was softening, considering their sisterly bond, so they urged her again.

“Zhixia, what are you hesitating for? She laid hands on you before, and now she’s done the same to us. She’s not the Lin Zhiqing she used to be.”

Fang Senran comforted them gently, “Uncle, Auntie, don’t worry. Zhixia is soft-hearted, it’s normal for her to have trouble accepting that her sister would do such things. Let me handle it. As long as you don’t blame me afterward, it’s fine.”

Lin Father said, “Really? Then we’ll trouble you, Xiao Fang. We definitely won’t blame you. Such a heartless, cold-blooded, unfilial daughter-we don’t want her. Now that we have Zhixia as our only daughter, we’ll just pretend we never had her.”

Lin Mother quickly agreed, “Yes, Xiao Fang, if it weren’t for you, our family wouldn’t even be able to survive in this world, let alone live in such a nice house and enjoy our current life.”

“How could we blame you? We can’t thank you enough.”

Fang Senran glanced at Lin Zhixia beside him, his eyes sparkling gently, his smile soft as he said quietly, “Uncle, Auntie, you’re too kind. This is what I should do.”

While they chatted, Ruan Tian had already finished the last bite of steak.

The steak, pan-fried in butter, was fragrant and crispy on the outside, tender inside-so much better than boiled.

After two days at the Lin house, Ruan Tian felt like she’d gained weight.

Lin Father and Lin Mother might not be honest, but their cooking was truly excellent.

If they didn’t have to die, she’d almost want to keep them on as her chefs.

While Lin Father and the others were talking, 001 was frantically urging Ruan Tian to do her task in her mind.

Ruan Tian ignored it-nothing was more important than eating.

She’d finally gotten to live a life where she could just reach out for clothes and open her mouth for food. It had only been two days-wasn’t that hard-won?

If she didn’t enjoy it now, who knew how long she’d have to wait for such good days once these people were dead?

001 knew it couldn’t persuade her, so it could only wait.

When Ruan Tian finally put down her knife and fork, 001 spoke up:

[Host, can you do the task now?]

“Of course.”

Ruan Tian wiped her mouth, calmly looking at the four people not far away, who were currently discussing how to kill her.

Lin Father was angrily saying he wanted to break her arms, not let her die too easily.

Lin Mother echoed Lin Father’s words.

Lin Zhixia said nothing, and Fang Senran just listened quietly.
Fang Senran opposed it in his heart.

But Lin Father and Lin Mother were elders, so he couldn’t just refuse to listen.

Fine, for the sake of old times, when the time comes, he’ll use harsher measures so Lin Zhiqing can suffer a little less pain.

Ruan Tian listened to them talk nonsense for a while, only to find it terribly boring.

She smiled, looking pure and harmless, but there was a hint of lazy indifference in her eyes. “All of you, I think it’s going to be awfully hard for you to kill me. Why don’t I kill you instead?”

“Who wants to die first? Or… all together?”

Lin Zhixia and Fang Senran both felt their hearts sink, instantly realizing something was wrong.

The person before them-her tone, her expression, even her smallest gestures-carried an indescribable sense of discord.

This face was identical to Lin Zhiqing’s, but as soon as she spoke, a bone-deep unfamiliarity rushed forth.

This was definitely not Lin Zhiqing.

Both of them tensed, a strong sense of danger crawling up their spines.

Her tone sounded calm, even with a touch of joking casualness, but the seriousness in her words was impossible to ignore and sent chills down their backs.

Before they could react, Lin Mother leapt out first.

“Lin Zhiqing, with Zhixia and Xiao Fang both here, you still dare to act so arrogant and say such outrageous things? Don’t blame us for being ruthless, from now on…”

Lin Mother’s voice suddenly caught in her throat. A sharp pain from her neck left her unable to speak.

Warm liquid trickled down her collar. Lin Mother stiffened her neck, trembling as she raised her hand. When her fingers touched the fork now lodged in her neck, her eyes widened in terror.

She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but not a single word came out. Her body swayed, then crashed heavily to the floor, and she was gone.

“Mom…”

“Auntie…”

“That old woman…”

Amid the cries, the three of them – Lin Zhixia, Fang Senran, and Lin Father – rushed over.

Fang Senran pulled out a recovery potion and poured it onto Lin Mother’s neck. The potion mixed with beads of blood, but there wasn’t the slightest reaction.

Recovery potions are useless on the dead.

Lin Father asked anxiously, his voice shaking, “Is there any hope? Is there any hope?”

Lin Zhixia gripped Lin Mother’s hand, tears falling uncontrollably, her cries of “Mom” broken and out of tune.

Fang Senran looked at the two of them, then finally shook his head helplessly.

Ruan Tian sat at the dining table, spinning a small knife between her fingers, the metallic glint flickering across her calm face.

She curled her lips and said three words: “What a pity.”

Ruan Tian had wanted to keep Lin Mother around for a few more days to cook, but she talked too much and Ruan Tian found it annoying.

Lin Father stared at Lin Mother’s corpse, rage flooding him and drowning out the pain in his hands. Eyes red, he lunged at Ruan Tian, but Lin Zhixia and Fang Senran held him back tightly.

“Beast! You beast!”

Held back, Lin Father could only scream at Ruan Tian in powerless despair: “She was your own mother… How could you? How could you be so ruthless? Heaven is watching – you’ll be cast into the eighteenth level of hell, never to be reborn!”

Ruan Tian only found it amusing.

She really would never be reborn.

Otherwise, her soul wouldn’t have remained, only to be thrown into the endless Void, a place of eternal darkness and endless slaughter. Relying on sheer will, she had fought her way out of a horde of evil spirits time and again.

Hell? She had already crawled through places far worse than hell.

Lin Zhixia said, “Dad, Dad, calm down. She’s not Sister. She’s not Lin Zhiqing.”

Lin Father suddenly froze, his cloudy eyes fixed on Ruan Tian at the dining table, as if searching that face identical to Lin Zhiqing’s for any difference. His voice hoarse, he asked, “Then who is she? Who is she, really?”
