Downstairs, there were three people: two men and one woman.

The woman stood in the middle, her posture upright and her gaze as sharp as an eagle’s, surveying everything in the living room.

The two young men naturally spread out, searching through a few empty rooms.

The woman’s attention fell on a toppled cabinet.

Something seemed to be trapped underneath.

There were simply too many collapsed odds and ends piled on top, all the furniture stacked together, and she couldn’t move it alone. She called the other two men over.

“Da Tou, Xiao Hu, come help.”

Hearing her voice, the two men came out of the rooms they were searching, each carrying a fair amount of items.

The tall young man who emerged first was called Da Tou.

He was holding half a bag of rice, with some dust on his face and sweat beading at his temple. Yet, he wore a simple, honest smile, lifted the bag in his arms, and called to the woman, “Sister Yan, guess what good stuff I found.”

“Rice.”

“Sister Yan, you’re so smart! I didn’t even say anything and you guessed it.”

Xu Yan: “…”

She wasn’t blind, after all. She could read the big characters on the rice bag.

The other young man was thinner, coming out from one of the bedrooms.

He was holding a few thick pieces of clothing. Although the weather was hot right now and wearing short sleeves still felt stifling, the weather in the Survival game world was unpredictable.

Maybe today it was midsummer, but tomorrow it could drop below freezing.

There had even been an incident before-an unexpected cold snap caught many unprepared, and quite a few froze to death.

So, warm clothing was an important survival resource. Stocking up more in the backpack couldn’t hurt.

He put the thick clothes in his backpack, then casually gave Da Tou a slap on the back of the head.

“Dummy, it’s written right on the bag. Anyone could tell.”

Da Tou rubbed the spot where he was hit and muttered quietly, “I was just too happy and didn’t notice. Why are you always hitting me?”

“You’re not that bright to begin with-get hit a bit more and you’ll get even dumber.”

Xiao Hu snorted, “With your brain? It grew into your muscles a long time ago-all knotted up in tendon and meat.”

“Doesn’t matter if I get hit more or less, it’s all the same.”

Da Tou couldn’t outargue Xiao Hu, so he turned to the woman to complain.

“Sister Yan, can you say something to him?”

Xu Yan sighed lightly, already used to their banter.

“Xiao Hu, stop teasing Da Tou all the time. One day you’ll push him too far and he’ll punch you, and you won’t like it.”

Xiao Hu shrugged indifferently, “Fine, fine, I won’t argue with a dummy.”

He then asked, “So why did you call us, Sister Yan?”

After their interruption, Xu Yan nearly forgot her original purpose.

“Help me move this furniture. I can’t do it alone-there seems to be something underneath. I want to check.”

Da Tou stashed the half-bag of rice into his backpack. After eating meat and wild vegetables for over a month, he could barely remember the taste of staple food.

Once they got back, he’d ask Brother Li to cook him a bowl. Even if it was just with some salted vegetables, it would make him feel that there was still hope in life.

Da Tou said, “Sister Yan, just leave it to me-I’m strong.”

After speaking, he flexed the muscles on his arm.

Xiao Hu rolled his eyes.

So proud of himself.

All those muscles at the expense of his brains.

He wasn’t jealous at all.

Xu Yan’s mouth twitched. “Alright, you do it then.”

Seeing there was nothing for him to do, Xiao Hu glanced up toward the second floor.

The doors and windows seemed basically intact; things upstairs probably hadn’t been damaged, so there might be even more good stuff up there.

Xiao Hu immediately said, “Sister Yan, you and Da Tou handle things here, I’ll go check upstairs.”

Xu Yan thought about it. They had snuck in quietly to begin with and already had a plan: if they ran into the homeowner, they’d just make up an excuse about ‘entering the wrong door’ to cover for themselves.
But if there’s no one inside, then naturally you shouldn’t miss the chance-see if anything good was left behind, maybe pick up something valuable.

Looking at the mess in the living room.

Clearly, there must have been quite a battle here last night. The owner is either dead or has fled; it’s unlikely they stayed behind.

Besides, since they entered, they’ve made some noise. If anyone was still inside, they’d probably have come out by now.

Thinking this through, Xu Yan felt less concerned.

She still gave a reminder: “Alright, be careful when you go upstairs.”

“Got it.”

With permission, Xiao Hu dashed up and disappeared around the corner on the second floor.

Da Tou moved aside the piled-up sofas and cabinets. The moment he saw the corpse pressed under the cabinet, he nearly dropped it in shock.

“Sister Yan, Sister Yan, there’s a dead person, there’s a corpse under here!”

Xu Yan hurried over at the sound and took a look-it was the body of an older woman, Lin Mother.

Because of Lin Zhixia’s Skill Card last night, Lin Mother’s corpse had ended up piled together with the furniture.

Da Tou stared at Lin Mother’s lifeless face, feeling a chill deep in his heart.

“Sister Yan, I’m a bit scared, what should I do?”

“It’s just a corpse, what’s there to be afraid of? Out in the wild, you see them every day.”

Ever since coming to this game world, people died every day. She used to be scared, but after seeing so many, she’d become immune.

Xu Yan had just finished speaking when a scream came from upstairs.

It was Xiao Hu’s voice.

Xu Yan and Da Tou exchanged glances, their faces changing instantly: “Not good!”

Da Tou threw down what he was holding, and the two rushed upstairs.

Just as they reached the corner, a dark shadow swooped over their heads and crashed heavily onto the first-floor floorboards, making a dull, thunderous sound.

Both looked toward the noise, and after seeing who lay on the ground, quickly turned and rushed down.

“Xiao Hu…”

Xiao Hu lay on the ground, convulsing, blood seeping from his mouth, his organs feeling as if they’d been crushed in agony.

His gaze was fixed on the direction of the second-floor corridor, where a girl stood. His lips moved, but no words came out.

“Xiao Hu, are you alright?”

Xu Yan and Da Tou knelt beside him. After such a fall, no one dared touch him carelessly.

Xu Yan fumbled out a Primary Recovery Potion, pried open his mouth, and poured it in.

Seeing his eyes fixed on one spot, Xu Yan followed his gaze.

But there was nothing there.

Xu Yan asked, “Xiao Hu, are you feeling better? What happened?”

“Who hurt you?”

She fired off several questions, but seeing Xiao Hu still unable to answer, she decided to go upstairs herself.

“Da Tou, take care of Xiao Hu.”

“Sister Yan, I’ll go with you.”

“No, with Xiao Hu like this, I don’t feel safe leaving him alone…”

…

As they spoke, they didn’t notice a figure slowly descending the stairs from the shadows at the stairway.

Her steps were light, making no sound on the wooden stairs.

Xiao Hu stared at her, his pupils contracting, eyes filled with terror.

“Run… run… hurry, run…”

Xiao Hu used all his strength to force out a few broken words.

Only then did Xu Yan and Da Tou sense something was wrong and looked behind them.

A girl had appeared there at some point, her long, wet hair clinging to her shoulders, water droplets dripping from the ends and soaking the pale yellow, fitted dress she wore.

She had a faint smile on her lips, quietly watching them, sending chills down their spines.
