Early the next morning, just as Ruan Tian got out of bed, a line of bolded, black system text appeared before her eyes.

The cold system prompt exploded without warning. Before she could react, a string of scarlet numbers flashed in front of her:

Before the message finished, a beam of white light enveloped Ruan Tian’s body, and the scenery around her instantly twisted into blurry patches of color.

When the light faded, the ground beneath her feet changed from a hard floor to prickly sand and gravel.

She wasn’t even wearing shoes.

Ruan Tian surveyed her surroundings. All she saw was a boundless wilderness: withered yellow grass, jagged rocks, and an air of bleak desolation.

The sky hung low in a dull, gray-yellow hue. Even the wind carried the grit of sand, scraping harshly against her face.

As the mechanical countdown of the system began, the ground beneath her feet started to tremble slightly.

On the cracked, yellow earth, several gray-black shadows suddenly appeared.
