Chapter 147

The King looked up at the Golden Cages hanging haphazardly across the grid wall and let out a soft sigh.

The moment that sigh fell…

Beili’s vision turned into a hazy gray-white, much like that Magic Screen.

The light gradually brightened.

Beili opened her eyes.

Her deep red gaze drifted toward the ceiling where the bed curtains hung.

After three dream transitions followed by a fourth seamless shift, Beili found herself struggling to catch her breath.

She slowly raised her hand, uncertain.

Seeing the five fair, slender fingers of her human form, she truly felt that she had left the Dream Space and returned to the real world.

She blinked her red eyes, lying in bed as she worked to organize the clues she had gathered from the King’s dreams.

The first dream.

The first dream was the most important, and it was the very reason she had opened the dream-to find out what kind of prophecy Bertie Swan had given to the Royal Family.

However, that dream had been interrupted at the most critical moment.

As for why it was interrupted, she would likely have to discuss it with Ashera to reach a conclusion.

In the second dream.

During the conversation between the King and Doctor Cassius, she was certain she had heard the words “replace with his own heart.”

Those words were too cryptic, and Beili couldn’t help but form a hypothesis-

Ashera had mentioned that three people had borrowed three things from him. One of those three people was the Former King of the Santos Kingdom.

The King and the Former King had exchanged hearts.

So now, Ashera’s heart was with His Majesty the King… was it?

Beili wasn’t sure, but she could only make such a bold guess.

As for the third dream.

Beili could already tell-

The purpose of sending her to the Holy Island Academy was not to treat her throat at all.

During that so-called treatment in the chapel, the Holy Water that Messenger Yue and the three Red Cardinals had fed her wasn’t Holy Water at all.

It was most likely poison.

They had done it simply to test her.

Because the King seemed to be looking for a butterfly that would not die.

…

“That eldest daughter of the Constance Family is truly strange…”

Outside the door, Beili heard the voices of servants whispering.

They said:

“I heard she was with the Second Prince. The two of them drank all night and even fell asleep in the palace corridor.”

“I heard Prince Cyril saw them on his way to pay his respects to His Majesty the King this morning.”

“After the incident with the pile of corpses, the relationship between Prince Cyril and the Second Prince hit freezing point. Seeing a noble lady who could get along so well with the Second Prince, he ordered people to bring her to the room furthest from the Second Prince’s chambers to rest.”

The sound of servants stifling their laughter drifted in from outside.

The door was suddenly pushed open.

The servants cleaning outside were startled by her movement.

Once they recovered, they gave her a slight bow.

“Good morning, Miss Bartholomew. What would you like for breakfast?”

“I’m going back.”

Beili spoke to them with a deep frown.

“Arrange a carriage. I want to leave the palace and return to the Constance house.”

Discussions and everything else could wait!

Regardless, with her remaining Mana, she wouldn’t be able to open a Dream Domain again for a while anyway.

Because she remembered!

She remembered that that damnable Demon had erased her memory twice in total!

Once in the Flea Nest, and once yesterday.

Yesterday.

In his chambers, on that vast and magnificent bed, amidst the smooth black silk and velvet quilts.
She had actually asked him if he liked her on a sudden impulse…

Recalling this, Beili wanted to give herself a punch in the head immediately.

And!

That damn Demon had actually denied it after she asked!

How infuriating… how cursed…

Truly infuriating! Truly cursed!

Remembering the outcome, Beili wanted to punch her own head first, and then give that guy’s head a punch as well.

Finally, feeling so humiliated and indignant that she wanted to die, Beili decided-to slip away first.

She would head back to the Imperial City.

No, not just the Imperial City.

She wanted to get far away from that stinky sheep and clear her head in some unfamiliar town.

And so.

After returning from the palace to the Constance Family house in the Imperial City, Beili washed up and changed into clean clothes.

She went downstairs for breakfast.

Then, she boarded the Constance Family carriage. With the wheels rumbling and turning, she left the Imperial City through a Teleportation Array.

…

After wandering around outside the Imperial City and passing through several towns.

Beili finally found the most suitable town to stop and stay overnight.

However, the Constance Family driver’s expression didn’t look too good as he looked at the town shrouded in a gray haze…

Even during the day, this town was a gloomy, overcast sight.

In this town, not a single green leaf could be seen; the road was lined with rotting, withered black branches.

The people in the town also looked as if they were cursed, their faces waxen and their expressions numb, wandering aimlessly through the streets like the walking dead.

The driver looked like he wanted to say something but hesitated.

After struggling for a few seconds, he couldn’t help but speak to the eldest daughter inside the carriage:

“Eldest daughter, the atmosphere of this town looks very strange. Why don’t we use the Teleportation Array to go back to the previous town?”

“Luoluo? Where have you run off to now? To think you’d let the Constance Family driver ask something like that?”

…Oh, right.

Before leaving the Imperial City by carriage, she had received a Communication Orb sent by Madam Constance.

Beili had been silently studying it in the carriage and must have accidentally touched a switch, because Madam Constance’s voice immediately came out of the Communication Orb.

Madam Constance was delighted that she had taken the initiative to call and quickly started chatting away.

She hadn’t stopped since.

Beili could only manage a half-hearted conversation with Madam Constance from inside the carriage.

“Um… the map says this town is called…”

She spread the map out across her lap.

Her cream-white, slender fingers slid across the parchment surface as she searched.

Finally, they stopped at the location marked ‘Blood Curse Town.’

That name didn’t sound good at all.

To think a town would actually weave the words ‘evil’ and ‘darkness’ directly into its name…

Beili could almost imagine that the second after she read the words ‘Blood Curse Town,’ Madam Constance would scream at the driver through the Communication Orb-‘Turn around and go back, that’s an order!’

So, Beili’s finger paused on ‘Blood Curse Town’ for two seconds, then quickly moved to a neighboring town, her tone remaining unchanged as she said:

“Mother, the map shows that this town is called Rose Town.”

“Oh-so it’s Rose Town! That’s where your father and I had our first date…”

Madam Constance began to chatter on again.

Beili turned her head and looked out at the town through the hollowed-out carriage window.
