Chapter 160

Beili woke up early in the morning.

It had rained briefly the previous night, leaving the azure sky clearer than ever and the air in Rose Town washed pure.

Sunlight and a breeze scented with flowers fluttered the window curtains, casting a shifting trail of light across the sill.

She opened her bleary eyes, feeling a slight weight on her shoulder.

Turning her head, she saw the Black Lamb resting its head gently there.

It gazed at her quietly with its golden eyes, showing no sign of having slept at all.

If his eyes could see, perhaps he would have stared at her in her sleep all night long.

The thought crossed her mind, and she blinked her red eyes softly.

After a moment, she took a breath and looked away, pushing the thought to the back of her mind.

After a moment’s consideration, Beili retrieved the letter Lance had sent from her Spatial Bracelet.

It was a very magnificent letter.

The wax seal on the golden envelope bore the Tilisha Royal Family crest, a pattern of yucca and evening primrose.

She recalled the first letter she had sent him.

It was only a few days after returning to Constance Castle that she had suddenly remembered their promise.

She had simply grabbed a sheet of plain white paper from her room and written down the trivial events of her recent days as if writing a diary entry.

Then, carrying the letter, she had flown a loop around Butterfly Valley before finding the town’s post office.

Finally, she had sent it off using a simple envelope sold at the counter.

Beili peeled open the seal and pulled out the letter inside.

Instantly, a faint, lingering fragrance wafted from the paper.

What is Lance up to…

It’s one thing to write a letter, but why spray perfume on it?

Surprised, Beili brought the paper closer to her nose and took a sniff.

It was definitely perfumed. She was certain of it.

“Baa-”

As if sensing her movement, the Black Lamb let out a dissatisfied bleat.

The young girl ignored it.

She unfolded the aventurine-gold paper and couldn’t help but let out a gasp of surprise.

What an exquisite letter.

Indeed, she didn’t even have time to browse the content of the writing yet.

Though the handwriting, penned in black ink mixed with gold dust, was equally beautiful.

However, her attention had already been captured by the decorations on the paper-

Colored gemstones like turquoise, lapis lazuli, and carnelian, each smaller than a fingernail, had been sliced thin and meticulously polished into the shapes of stars.

Following the writer’s whim, they were scattered and glued along the edges of the letter.

This made Beili think of her own sent letter again.

Uh… for the reply this time, she should probably pick out some nicer stationery and an envelope.

Should she spray some perfume too?

As she pondered, two small black hooves stepped onto her shoulder. The lamb opened its mouth, intent on biting the letter out of her hand.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

The girl quickly held the letter up high, her brows knitting slightly as she questioned it.

“Do you want me to send you next door?”

“Baa-”

The Black Lamb let out a pitiful cry.

Beili chuckled inwardly.

It was only when Ashera turned into a lamb or a young boy that she could act a bit more assertive.

Whenever the man with the black ram horns appeared, she would always subconsciously speak to him in a soft, gentle voice, constantly mindful not to let him lose his mind.

Furthermore, she had gradually noticed a pattern-

The man with the black ram horns was mostly active at night; during the day, he wouldn’t easily appear unless there was a reason.

She sat up in bed, propped two pillows behind her back, and began to read the contents of the letter.
The letter consisted of three paragraphs.

In the first paragraph, Lance had written long, rambling passages about how much he missed her, even quoting several poems.

It was perfectly consistent with his usual frivolous way of speaking.

She looked at the second paragraph.

Hm… the second paragraph was the same.

She checked the third paragraph, and it was more of the same.

This wasn’t just a pen pal exchange anymore; it had turned into a love letter…

This.

How was she supposed to reply?

“Baa-”

Seeing that the girl hadn’t moved for a long time, the Black Lamb grew a bit restless. It stomped on her leg with its hooves through the quilt.

Then it burrowed under the letter, nudging the paper away with its head, and lay on her stomach, bleating incessantly.

Beili looked down at it with her red eyes, a faint smile appearing on her face.

“You want to know what’s in the letter, don’t you?”

The Black Lamb raised its head, its golden eyes “looking” at her. The answer was obvious.

She tucked the letter into her Spatial Bracelet before saying to it:

“It’s actually nothing, just an ordinary letter.”

The Black Lamb rubbed its head against her wrist, and a faint boyish voice couldn’t help but leak out from within.

“What letter… Who, who wrote it? What did… what did they write?”

Beili pressed her lips together to hide a smile, gently lifting one of the Black Lamb’s ears and whispering down into it:

“The letter says… that he misses me.”

Her soft voice and warm breath blew into the fuzzy ear.

In the next second, a sudden weight pressed down on her.

Someone pinned her shoulders, and fingers clad in black gloves gripped her face with an icy touch.

“Is that so?”

A cold, muffled chuckle came from behind the harsh lines of the Silver Mask.

“He misses you?”

A thick black mist emanated from the youth.

Like cold air condensing into raindrops, the black liquid became viscous, dripping one by one onto the pristine white quilt.

“And you… do you miss him?”

The black liquid left thick streaks across the Silver Mask.

The voice coming from behind the mask started with the clarity and weakness of a boy in the first half of the sentence.

By the second half, it became hoarse, as if his throat had been scorched.

“Don’t tell me… you miss him too.”

“…Ashera?”

The girl looked at him with wide red eyes.

Her surprised voice, light as a breeze, drifted into his ears.

The youth froze slightly, as if suddenly realizing his loss of composure. The dark aura instantly retracted.

“So-sorry… friend…”

He climbed off her.

Removing the mask from his face and pulling off the black hood, he sat on the edge of the bed with his back to her.

His voice shifted from its previous sinister violence to something small and aggrieved.

It even carried a hint of tears.

“I… I just care about you too, too much.”

He kept his head down, his long silver hair falling to his cheekbones and obscuring his eyes.

On the other side, the startled Beili had also regained her senses-

Ashera had just snapped and forgotten to switch accounts.

After all, his Youth Form was the “alt account” Ashera used to play weak.

Beili had also come to accept that when he was angry in this state, he would only shed tears or cause the temperature in the room to drop.

She hadn’t expected him to almost drop the act of stuttering just now.

Beili pulled back the quilt, crawled over to the youth’s side, and gently brushed aside his falling silver hair.

Before the youth could turn his face away, Beili saw the lingering gloom in his pale features; there wasn’t a single trace of mist in his eyes.

He was still angry.

A person driven by such emotions simply couldn’t act.
