Chapter 178

Beili had just clearly seen that the small dark shadow was a bat when Cyril’s dreamscape abruptly shifted.

The entire space went black for a fleeting moment.

It was as if the dreamer had blinked.

When she opened her eyes again, the scene had transformed into a spacious room.

Beili had been to Cyril’s Palace Chamber before, so she could easily tell that this was not the layout of his Palace Chamber.

Observing the white walls sparsely inlaid with pearls and the familiar light linen-colored Greek-style academy uniform hanging on the coat rack in the corner, Beili quickly deduced that this room was likely Cyril’s dormitory at Holy Island Academy.

At this moment, Cyril was the only one in the room.

Aside from a simple bed, a wardrobe, a desk and chairs, a few ornaments, and some basic items, his dormitory was exceptionally clean and minimalist.

Consequently, after Beili discovered she was perched on a chair, she didn’t dare to move.

Because Cyril was sitting on that very chair.

The noble Prince was clearly fresh from a bath, wrapped in a white bathrobe.

His short black hair was soaked with water; after a casual rub with a towel, it hung in damp clumps, with some strands still dripping.

In Cyril’s hand was a constantly flickering Communication Orb.

The King’s aged, gentle voice drifted from within.

“Cyril, I heard you’ll be participating in this Closing Event,” the King said.

“Yes.”

Cyril answered expressionlessly.

“I also heard-” the King’s voice in the Communication Orb carried a hint of a smile, “that it’s because of the girl from the Constance Family that you’re participating in this Closing Event.”

“She is a classmate in the same group as me.”

Cyril’s tone was devoid of emotion as he replied, “She said that no one else was willing to help her except for me.”

“How kind, Cyril.”

His Majesty the King sighed with sentiment:

“A prosperous and powerful Sainthos needs a kind heir like you. However, you know I wasn’t talking about her at all, but the other girl from the Constance Family.”

“She is my future Princess Consort. If she asks for my help, I have no reason to refuse.”

Cyril answered naturally, as if discussing the weather, his voice flat without a single ripple of emotion.

“That was all so many years ago; no one even remembers it,” the King’s voice sighed gently through the Communication Orb. “Cyril, you should forget about that matter as well.”

Hearing the King’s words, Cyril frowned slightly and said with a hint of impatience, “Why beat around the bush? If Father has something to say, just say it directly.”

The other end of the Communication Orb fell silent for a few seconds before the King spoke:

“What is there to hide between a father and son? I have always been direct with you, haven’t I?”

The youth with black hair and purple eyes leaned back, resting his head against the back of the chair.

Beili clearly saw the noble Prince of Sainthos roll his eyes at the orb in his hand.

Then, she heard him say impatiently:

“If Father has nothing else to say, then I’m ending the communication.”

As Cyril spoke, he began to close his fingers, preparing to turn off the Communication Orb.

“Cyril-”

The other end of the orb added leisurely:

“I recall that you still haven’t learned how to swim, have you?”

“Yes. What of it?” Cyril said.

“Oh, nothing.”

The King replied, then paused before continuing, “Since you haven’t learned to swim, you should stay away from the water. After all, you know what they say-it is often those who can swim who end up drowning.”

Cyril frowned and said:
“I don’t need you to remind me of that.”

“You’ve grown so much, yet you’re still so afraid of water?”

The voice from the Communication Orb held a hint of mockery. “Has the mark of fear left by your upbringing still not vanished?”

As the words fell, Beili noticed the boy’s expression instantly turn cold.

His face darkened, and he replied in a voice devoid of emotion, “You know perfectly well who the culprit behind that mark of fear is, Father.”

Two gentle chuckles drifted from the Communication Orb.

“Didn’t we argue about this a long time ago?”

Then came a helpless sigh. “I’ve already explained it to you… I thought we had long since buried the hatchet, my dear son.”

“All I know is that the King of Sainthos has lived a life of fear for over a decade because of three sentences from the Swan Family.”

Cyril curled his lip into a cold sneer.

“Father, don’t you think that’s incredibly foolish?”

“You even killed my… because of it.”

“Oh-bringing that up again.”

The boy was interrupted and suddenly cut off the rest of his sentence.

He gripped the Communication Orb so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

“Cyril, I explained this to you a long time ago.”

The voice on the other end of the Communication Orb carried a gentle smile, bluntly pointing out, “In truth, you just feel a bit of guilt. Try to let it go; letting guilt transform into affection is what’s truly foolish.”

The boy’s fingers suddenly loosened. His eyelashes lowered, and his clear purple eyes grew dim.

“Most importantly, do not disregard that prophecy, for it is highly likely to be true.”

The King’s voice continued.

“After all, no one knew about the three items, let alone those from the Swan Family. Oh… they are like caged canaries, never leaving the palace.”

“The Former King and those other two old men hid it very well. For all these years, they never breathed a word of it.”

“If the prophecy hadn’t leaked the secret, I wouldn’t have known that the Former King’s heart had already…”

The somewhat excited speech paused for a moment.

A second later, it became gentle again.

“Of course, your father isn’t as selfish as the Former King. After your Coming-of-Age Ceremony, I will place that heart into you…”

“I don’t need it!”

A visible flash of rage appeared on Cyril’s face. He sat up straight, his voice like frost wrapped in a chilling wind.

“Keep that heart for yourself, Father.”

“Cyril, don’t be ungrateful.”

“This is a gift from your father-an incredibly precious, priceless gift.”

Cyril spoke each word with deliberate emphasis: “I don’t want to repeat myself a third time. Keep that heart for yourself.”

The King sighed with a smile.

A few seconds later, he offered another reminder:

“Oh, and about the water-if you accidentally fall in, remember not to use magic. Try to swim back to shore on your own.”

“What do you mean?”

Cyril asked, his brows furrowing as he realized something.

But after the King finished speaking, the light of the Communication Orb dimmed and faded.

His Majesty the King was hinting for Cyril to stay away from that pool of water in the Gloomy Maze.

Beili, who had nearly drowned in that very water, understood the implication.

From the looks of it, Cyril hadn’t actually known about the Withered Tree Pool beforehand. It was only after entering the Gloomy Maze and seeing Lance’s leg trapped by the pool that he connected it to his father’s words and realized the danger of that water.

As she was reflecting on this, the dream scene shifted once again.
