Survival Guide After Accidentally Kissing a Demon - chapter 19
The books on this category shelf were all very old, but preserved in excellent condition.
The books were not densely arranged; only a few were placed on each shelf layer.
Beili chose to ignore the Elementary Teleportation Magic books and reached for an Intermediate Teleportation Magic Book from the shelf, pulling one out and quickly flipping through a couple of pages.
With Intermediate Teleportation Magic, you could teleport three to four people at once, covering distances similar to that from Holy Island Academy to Lottia Island, and it only took the blink of an eye.
This book was much more detailed and comprehensive than the one Doctor Cassius had found.
It described the materials required for Teleportation Magic, various methods for drawing Magic Arrays, as well as important details and taboos to keep in mind.
However, none of it had anything to do with her returning to her original world.
She put the book back, tilted her head up, and locked her gaze on the Advanced Teleportation Magic Books at the very top of the shelf.
The shelf was too high; she had to stand on tiptoe and stretch her arm to barely touch the topmost book.
Suddenly, the book moved out of the shelf on its own and slowly floated down.
Watching an Advanced Teleportation Magic Book float before her, Beili was a bit puzzled, but reached out to grab it.
Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of a figure.
She turned to look and saw, beside a nearby shelf, Prince Cyril holding a book.
With no expression on his face, he extended a fingertip and pressed on the side of the shelf. Another book slid out and floated down slowly.
Cyril caught the book in his hand, glanced down at it, and suddenly spoke: “Advanced Teleportation Magic-why are you looking at this?”
“I’m just curious…”
Beili, slightly confused, walked over to Cyril and carefully examined the spot he had just pressed. Only then did she notice small squares carved into the side of the shelf, clearly corresponding to the horizontal and vertical arrangement of the books.
Realizing this, Beili quickly reached out and pressed all the Advanced Teleportation Magic Books on the top layer.
Sure enough, the remaining Advanced Teleportation Magic Books on the top shelf slid out one after another, slowly floating down and hovering in the air.
“Ha… Just as I thought.”
Beili smiled, and seeing Cyril still watching her, blinked her red eyes before adding:
“I haven’t had a good opportunity before, but actually, I’m quite interested in Teleportation Magic.”
Cyril let out a cold laugh and withdrew his gaze, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with Bartholomew’s explanation.
Elementary Teleportation Magic was the most basic form of Teleportation Magic.
It didn’t require constructing a Magic Array like Intermediate or Advanced Teleportation Magic Books did-just a piece of Talisman Paper inscribed with a teleportation Magic Array. So, Elementary Teleportation Magic was suitable for sending messages or delivering items over short distances.
Only Intermediate and Advanced Teleportation Magic could be used to teleport living people.
Compared to Intermediate Magic, Advanced Magic could teleport farther and handle more people and items, but the cost was enormous.
And if it failed, the person or item being teleported would be mercilessly torn to shreds by the twisted Mana.
“Anyone with low Mana who tries Advanced Teleportation Magic will drain their own strength. It’s extremely dangerous.”
Glancing at the Advanced Teleportation Magic Books floating before him, Cyril spoke in a neutral tone:
“Bartholomew, do you have any foundation in Elementary Teleportation Magic?”
Hearing his question, Beili hesitated and shook her head.
“You don’t even know the incantations and spells for Elementary Teleportation Magic, nor do you understand how to use or control Mana.”
He put the book back on the shelf, then leaned closer to Bartholomew, lowering his voice so only the two of them could hear:
“Whatever your plan is, don’t waste your time. Before anyone notices anything strange about you, hurry back to Sainthos.”
He spoke bluntly, his tone even a bit impatient.
It seemed that, in Cyril’s eyes, Bartholomew was nothing but a troublemaker who didn’t know her own limits.
On the other side, after listening to Cyril, a suspicious look appeared on Beili’s face.
She had already felt an inexplicable sense of strangeness earlier, and now that feeling was even clearer.
For some unknown reason, Susanna seemed to subtly resist her contact with magical knowledge.
Cyril hadn’t thought this way before, but after sending the old man to the Healing Hall, he became the same as Susanna.
Could it be that Susanna had said something to him?
And the anomaly…
What did he mean by anomaly?
Could it be that she had taken over Bartholomew’s body?
As soon as this thought surfaced in Beili’s mind, she dismissed it.
Bartholomew had been stranded in Thorn Prison for so many years, and no one had noticed her drastic change in personality, not even Bartholomew’s biological parents, let alone the noble Prince Sainthos.
So the anomaly he mentioned shouldn’t refer to that.
But Beili didn’t have time to think it through. Rather than wasting effort trying to decipher Cyril’s riddles, it was clearly more important to focus on searching for useful Teleportation Magic.
Besides, she couldn’t guarantee that Messenger Yue wouldn’t suddenly appear in the library the next second and mercilessly send her off on the boat leaving Holy Island Academy.
So…
“All right, Your Highness.”
Beili answered concisely.
She then stacked the book in her hand together with the ones that had floated down, set them aside, and smoothed her black dress with a raised hand.
She sat down on the floor, opened the cover, and focused all her attention on the book.
“Bartholomew…”
Beili pressed her lips together, saying nothing, just keeping her head down as she looked at the Advanced Teleportation Magic Book in her hands.
Seeing her indifferent reaction, as if his punch had landed on cotton, Cyril frowned slightly, but couldn’t say anything more.
He took a deep breath, then sat down on the floor just like Bartholomew, flipping through the Magic Book in his hand.
The two of them sat a meter apart, neither speaking again.
Gradually, only the soft rustling of pages turning remained in the silent library.
……
Red eyes focused.
There was no extra expression on her face.
Beili didn’t read like Cyril, carefully and thoroughly. She first skimmed the table of contents, found the chapters that might be relevant, then quickly flipped to those pages to browse.
It didn’t take her long to finish a book, close it, set it aside, and then pick up the next one.
One after another.
More and more Advanced Teleportation Magic Books were read and then returned to their places.
She read at a very fast pace.
Cyril sat beside her, watching Bartholomew flip through books at lightning speed, returning them one by one, and soon realized-she wasn’t stubbornly trying to challenge Advanced Teleportation Magic, but searching for something.
And judging by her frustrated and annoyed expression, it was obvious she hadn’t found it.
When Bartholomew returned the last Advanced Teleportation Magic Book to its place, she hesitated for a moment, then finally walked over to Cyril.
“Prince Cyril.”
Picking up the etiquette of Sainthos once more, the beautiful Miss Bartholomew curtsied to him with a smile.
“While there’s still some time, Your Highness, could you tell me what items are needed to enter the Third Floor of the library…?”
Hearing her question, Cyril closed the Magic Book in his hand, looked up, and his expression was a bit odd.
“Before you ask that, you should go take a look at the stairs.”
Seeing his vague answer, Beili had no choice but to follow his suggestion and walked out of the second floor of the library.
Cyril followed behind her, still holding the unfinished Magic Book.
“I’ve been at Holy Island Academy for four years, and I still haven’t found a way upstairs.”
Looking up at the ceiling where there were no stairs, he said:
“No one has ever opened the Third Floor.”
