Chapter 197

The dagger slashed down.

It sliced through the neatly sewn pearls on the surface of the skirt.

A second stroke tore through the magnificent evening gown.

Just as the dagger was about to reach Susanna’s calf, a swarm of Morpho Butterflies flew silently out from the flower wall in the corner, lunging straight for Princess Renee’s face.

Startled by the sudden appearance of the blue-green Morpho Butterflies, the princess faltered.

Princess Renee felt her vision blur for a moment. By the time she reacted, she had already been pulled several meters away by her guard.

A few Morpho Butterflies still rested on the dagger in her hand. The blade, which had been gleaming with a cold light, began to warp slightly and turn black rapidly, emitting a hissing sound as if it were being corroded.

“What on earth is this?”

Princess Renee threw the dagger to the ground and asked in annoyance.

At that moment, one of the Morpho Butterflies in the swarm landed lightly on the ground, transforming into a gray-haired girl with red eyes.

Two soft, glossy black feathers were tucked behind her ears. Her beautiful, silvery-gray curly hair was woven into elegant braids and pinned at the back of her head. She wore a decadent, luxurious evening gown made of black feathers.

“Your Highness, why have you made such a mess of my sister?”

The girl glanced at Susanna on the ground. When she raised her red eyes again, her voice was cold.

“She still has to dance tonight.”

“So, you must be Bartholomew.”

Princess Renee let out a laugh and narrowed her eyes, a cold light flickering in her beautiful golden pupils.

Even without receiving an answer, Princess Renee knew the truth.

In the Santos Kingdom, if Cyril was the man she hated most, then Bartholomew was the woman she detested above all others.

These two were tied for first place in her heart.

Because one had cut off Brother Lance’s leg, and the other had Brother Lance waiting eagerly every day for a reply to his letters.

“Who I am doesn’t matter,” the Gray-haired Girl stated flatly. “What matters is that I am taking my sister with me, Princess Renee.”

“No.”

Princess Renee immediately snapped, “Stop them both!”

A spell flew toward the girl.

It was still Immobilization Magic, but it was blocked by the Morpho Butterflies encircling the girl.

“Stop making things difficult for your guard, Princess Renee.”

She gave a calm, cold sneer.

“It’s obvious your guard has no desire to cause trouble in the palace of Sainthos.”

Beili quietly squeezed the Golden Whistle in her hand.

This was a gift from Cyril.

When she first heard him describe it, she felt the Golden Whistle was intended entirely for her to use when fleeing for her life. She hadn’t expected to have a chance to use it so soon, but it had certainly come in handy.

Suddenly-

“This person… we, we can… we can k-kill him together…”

A faint, youthful voice drifted from behind the flower wall and into her ears.

“…”

Beili couldn’t be bothered with him.

Pretending she hadn’t heard, she crouched beside Susanna and looked up at Princess Renee, adding calmly, “If Prince Lance wants half of Susanna’s leg as compensation, I believe my foolish sister will be willing to offer it up on the day he says so himself.”

“My brother’s tolerance does not mean you don’t have to pay an equal price.”

Princess Renee was incensed. She grit her teeth and barked at her guard, “Hurry up and keep them here, or I’ll cut off your leg!”

As the girl’s voice fell, Beili saw the guard in the golden cloak turn around, seemingly intending to cast some kind of spell.

“He’s coming…” the faint voice of the boy behind her warned.

Beili raised her hand and immediately blew the Golden Whistle.

A crisp, bird-like whistle sounded.

Simultaneously, a glowing Teleportation Array appeared beneath their feet.

“Don’t you dare run!”

Princess Renee shouted and ran forward, trying to charge into the Teleportation Array.

But in the next second, the light had already enveloped Bartholomew and Susanna.

In the blink of an eye, the two of them and the swarm of Morpho Butterflies vanished from the array.

When Princess Renee rushed over, she only caught a handful of dissipating light. She could only stomp her feet in frustration.

“Damn it! Damn it! Just you wait!”

Her curses had not yet faded.
A figure with silver hair and black clothes suddenly appeared in Princess Renee’s field of vision.

A black mask covered half of his face, and his hollow golden eyes ‘looked’ at her with an inscrutable gaze.

“Oh…”

A flicker of admiration flashed in Princess Renee’s eyes.

Forgetting her next move for a moment, she stood there quietly watching the young man for several seconds.

“You…”

Belatedly reining in her aggressive demeanor, she smoothed her posture into the ladylike stance expected of a noble daughter.

“What is your name?”

After the light of the Teleportation Array flashed and vanished.

At the same time.

The Prince’s Palace Chambers.

Lance, who was currently competing in archery with Cyril, suddenly noticed a burst of light emanating from Cyril’s collar.

Appearing along with the light were the figures of two young women.

The two young men were stunned at the same time. Subconsciously dropping their bows and arrows, they both reached out to catch one of them.

Lance only felt a bundle of light black feathers crash into his arms.

While he was still in a state of shock, the girl had already raised her head. The black feather tucked behind her ear brushed lightly against his jaw.

It brought a slight tickling sensation.

Once Lance saw clearly who was in his arms, his dark eyes lit up slightly, and his narrow fox-like eyes instantly curved upward.

“This is quite a unique way to make an entrance, Luoluo.”

He spoke with the corners of his lips curled:

“Long time no see.”

On the other side.

After staring at him fixedly for two seconds with eyes as deep and red as gemstones, the girl spoke expressionlessly:

“Prince Lance, your sister has gone mad.”

A while later.

Lance returned to the Banquet Hall. Searching through the crowd with his gaze, he finally found Princess Renee.

She was standing there alone, holding a wine glass, her eyes fixed on a certain spot as if she were staring at something in a daze.

Lance strode over, grabbed Princess Renee’s hand, and dragged her toward the exit of the Banquet Hall.

Princess Renee was startled by her brother’s sudden action, and the wine glass in her hand almost slipped.

“Oh, Brother, what are you doing?”

Princess Renee cried out in a mix of surprise and anger.

Lance’s face was somewhat grim. Without saying a word, he simply pulled his sister along forcefully until they left the Banquet Hall and reached a quiet corner before stopping.

“Renee-”

Lance dropped all his soft expressions, frowning as he rebuked her sharply:

“How could you harm a Noble lady of Sainthos and even try to harm a Prince of Sainthos? This is too rude, too much!”

“How was I being too much?”

Princess Renee had never been scolded so harshly by her brother before.

Her golden eyes widened, instantly filling with tears.

Then, Princess Renee turned her head away and said stubbornly, her voice trembling:

“I was seeking revenge for you, making them pay the same…”

“I don’t need you to seek justice for me in this way, Renee.”

Lance interrupted her. “You must go and apologize to Miss Susanna and Miss Bartholomew.”

“But Brother, you…”

“I’ve said it many times; that was an accident. I don’t blame anyone.”

Lance’s voice did not soften because of her tears. His attitude became even more assertive as he said:

“If you keep acting up like this, I’ll have the Guard send you back to Tilisha right now!”

Princess Renee bit her lip, and large tears began to fall from her eyes.

Lance watched his sister for a while, seeing her sharp edges completely vanish, leaving only tearfulness.

Only then did his tone soften slightly:

“Renee, listen to your brother. Go apologize to Miss Susanna and Miss Bartholomew, and say you won’t do it again.”

Princess Renee sobbed softly a few times, weeping in silence.

Clearly, she was unwilling to do so.

Lance just waited, locked in a stalemate with her.

The girl’s tears gradually subsided.

After a moment.

She finally compromised, saying, “…If Brother helps me with one thing, then I’ll agree.”

“What is it?”

The girl pursed her lips, a hint of shyness suddenly appearing on her face. She leaned in and whispered a few words into his ear.

Lance’s furrowed brows relaxed.

He sighed and led the girl back.
