Chapter 217

Princess Theresa Dobin-seventeenth in line?

Back at Holy Island Academy, Beili had already learned a thing or two about the Nauze Royal Family’s astonishing ability to produce heirs, but when she compared it to the Sainthos Royal Family, she still couldn’t help but be amazed.

After all, Sainthos only had one prince-Cyril.

Oh, right. Now there was a second prince as well.

Standing right behind her.

At the coachman’s words, Ashera let out a low chuckle behind her. His cold face leaned close to her temple.

“Little Butterfly, what do you think?”

Of course Beili didn’t want that.

First it was the Brown-clothed People, and now another Your Highness had shown up.

She only wanted this whole Your Highness situation to leave quickly-before the princess barely got two words out and Ashera killed her.

So she shook her head and told the coachman, “No need. We’ll just stroll around on our own, so there’s no need to trouble your princess.”

Ashera chuckled softly behind her.

The coachman clearly hadn’t expected them to refuse after he announced the princess’s identity. Hesitation flashed across his face, and he stood there blankly for a moment, at a loss.

Ashera lowered his eyes to him and repeated coolly, “Didn’t you hear her?”

Whether it was the chill in that gaze or the frost in his voice, the coachman felt his scalp prickle. He shuddered.

With no choice, he turned back to the carriage and relayed their refusal to the princess inside.

The carriage remained where it was, with no movement for a long while.

“Now you know where the Mana Crystal Water comes from.”

Ashera brushed Beili’s cheek and asked softly from behind her, “Where do you want to go next?”

Beili glanced at the river. “Let’s find an inn first.”

Thinking of her plan to use the Black Bone Scythe to absorb Mana at night, she turned sideways and looked back at Ashera-the silver-haired man in a Black Robe, with curved Black Goat Horns on his head. In a probing tone, she asked, “I want to come back and take another look around midnight. Is that okay?”

“Mm…”

Ashera lowered his golden eyes to her.

His cold breath washed over her lips.

Only then did Beili realize their posture had become a little too intimate.

But by the time she noticed, it was already too late.

Ashera’s lashes curved slightly, his lips lifting into a beautiful arc, his icy hand cupping her cheek.

“Of course it’s okay.”

He lowered his head naturally, and a cold kiss landed on her lips.

Their lips pressed together.

A sheet of frost-like the edge between late winter and early spring-slowly melted behind her teeth.

When Beili finally came back to herself-

The river was still flowing. Mr. Vulture was still ahead of them on horseback, staring dully into the distance.

Only the Nauze princess was gone; at some point, her carriage had quietly left.

…

They found an inn near the river and settled in.

When it came time to book rooms, Beili glanced at Mr. Vulture, about to take a room next door for him so he could rest.

After all, the road had been tiring.

Even Beili felt like her bones were about to fall apart.

But Ashera said, utterly unconcerned, “He doesn’t need rest right now. When the two of us rest, he’ll stand guard outside the door.”

His tone made it sound like the most natural thing in the world.

Beili looked at the stiff figure by the doorway and couldn’t help thinking Mr. Vulture had it way too rough.

Since she’d once done business with him for information, she hesitated, then still asked Ashera, “Will he ever regain consciousness? Or is he going to be like this from now on?”

Like a zombie.

Ashera lifted a brow slightly, as if he didn’t understand why she cared so much about a broker like that.

Still, he gave a soft laugh and explained, “He will. When I want him to, or when my Mana runs out.”

As they spoke, Beili took some food out of an oil-paper bag.

It was a Nauze specialty-flaky pastry meat pies-bought on the way back. She’d just opened it and hadn’t even taken a bite when another question rose in her mind.

“Does he need to eat during this time?” Beili looked at the pie in her hand, thought for a moment, then asked, “If he doesn’t eat, won’t he starve to death?”

At that, the smile in Ashera’s eyes and at the corners of his mouth faded slightly.

He considered it, then explained with patience, “Of course he won’t starve to death.

“With my Mana on him, he won’t die of hunger. It’s just that when I withdraw my Mana, he might be very, very hungry.”

Beili nodded seriously. Just as she was about to take a bite of the fragrant meat pie, she remembered something else. “Then he-”

Before she could finish, the silver-haired man in the Black Robe-who had been standing by the windowsill, quietly watching outside, his figure rimmed in gold by the last light of sunset-appeared in front of her in the blink of an eye.

Cold fingers lifted her face.

A deep smile curved his lips, yet gloom gathered between his brows.

Ashera said slowly, “I don’t want to hear any more questions about him from your mouth, my dear Little Butterfly.”
