Chapter 218

The door shut with a ‘bang,’ closed by an invisible force.

Moving forward, a tall figure instantly loomed over her.

Cold silver hair fell like night rain, several strands brushing against her fingers.

Beili raised her red eyes and saw a clear expression of jealousy on the man’s pale, perfectly sculpted face.

His face, which usually carried a thick sense of amusement, was now gloomy. His golden eyes looked down at her with a hint of danger, as if he wanted to devour her.

“I…”

Thinking about Mr. Vulture’s current disguise-a rough man with a face full of stubble-she couldn’t understand what there was to be jealous about. She knit her brows inwardly.

However, Beili knew that at a time like this, she could only go along with him. After all, they still had to go to the river to collect Mana tonight.

Thus, she closed her mouth, swallowed her last question, and stopped pressing him.

“I won’t ask anymore, alright?”

She lifted the flaky meat pie in her hand and held it up to Ashera’s lips.

“Want a bite of this Nauze meat pie to cool off?”

Ashera’s golden eyes shifted slightly, casting a brief glance at the golden-brown, crispy food wrapped in oil paper. Then, he turned his head away and lay down on the bed, refusing to look at her.

“…”

Beili was witnessing this man’s increasingly powerful possessiveness.

Since getting his eyes back, his bloodlust, possessiveness, and unpredictable temper had become much more pronounced than before.

Beili took a bite of the meat pie, thought for a moment about how to ease the tension, and said tentatively:

“…How about you take out a hard candy and eat one?”

She knew he hadn’t thrown them away.

Back in Rose Town, he had hidden that Jar of Candy.

The atmosphere in the room became very quiet after she spoke.

Seeing that Ashera had no intention of responding, Beili didn’t say anything more. She sat in the chair and finished the meat pie, then ate two cream puffs before quietly climbing onto the bed, staring out the window and waiting for darkness to fall.

She had specifically booked a room in the Inn that faced the Cradle River.

As the last of the twilight faded, the sky and the light turned a deep, dark blue.

After a while, the expression on a certain someone’s face softened slightly, and he suddenly spoke:

“That was for him. I can’t eat it.”

“…”

Beili didn’t know what Ashera’s purpose was in saying that now.

Did he want her to buy another Jar of Candy for him?

Her deep red eyes looked like rubies dropped into rich red wine, ripples spreading through them.

But a moment later, they returned to stillness.

Her eyelids lowered slightly and then closed.

She pretended to have drifted off to sleep and didn’t hear him.

…

She waited for a good while.

When night had fully descended and the streets and alleys had grown silent, Beili opened her eyes and nudged Ashera awake.

They left the Inn and returned to the banks of the Cradle River.

Naturally, they didn’t bring Mr. Vulture this time.

It was only a single street’s walk from the Inn to the river.

…

Though it was late and the night was still, many people were standing by the river steps.

Many commoners and Half-beasts were lining up to draw water.

No one spoke; everyone maintained a tacit silence, and the scene was quiet and orderly.

When Beili and Ashera approached the river, those people all looked over with alarm and wariness.

Some even abandoned their buckets and fled.

But gradually, after observing for a while and seeing that the two ignored their water-gathering, the remaining people relaxed and quickened their movements.

After reaching the riverbank with Ashera, Beili silently unfastened the scythe pendant from around her neck.

Since she couldn’t use Mana right now, she could only hand the pendant to Ashera.

“Since you sealed my Mana, the task of absorbing it falls to you.”

She said crossly, “Hurry up and help me absorb the Mana.”

Ashera let out a light chuckle. He reached out and took it readily.

The tiny scythe pendant instantly transformed in his hand into the Black Bone Scythe.

Wisps of black mist swirled around it.

The commoners and Half-beasts turned their gazes back, staring in shock at the giant scythe that had suddenly appeared before the pair.

Under the moonlight, the Cradle River shimmered with silver, scale-like ripples.

Ashera flicked his finger.

Carrying a streak of darkness, the Black Bone Scythe flew into the Cradle River like a bolt of black lightning.

“We can come back to retrieve it tomorrow or the day after, depending on when we leave,” Beili said softly, looking at the dark Cradle River under the night sky.

After giving the command to the Black Bone Scythe and tossing it into the river, they could return to the Inn to rest.

However, Ashera hummed thoughtfully. He then reached out to wrap an arm around her shoulder and turned her around, and the two of them suddenly began walking along the riverbank.
Under a night sky as thick as ink, a crescent moon hung high.

A pale glow draped down like sheer silk, sketching the hazy outlines of the trees and shrubs along the riverbank.

The breeze carried the chill of the river water, gently fluttering the man’s silver hair and the girl’s grey hair.

However, it wasn’t exactly a good idea to be out for a stroll in the middle of the night, was it?

Beili, confused and a bit dazed, asked, “Where are we going?”

The corners of Ashera’s lips curled slightly. Parting his thin lips, he said in a natural tone, “Back to the Inn to rest.”

With his arm around her shoulder, she was forced to keep walking forward. After a few seconds of silence, Beili couldn’t help but remind him, “This doesn’t seem like the way back to the Inn… After all, the Inn was just behind us, only a street away.”

The latter responded with a low chuckle.

Ashera smiled without saying a word, and Beili warily sensed that something was wrong.

Of course, her magic was sealed, so she had no way to summon her Morpho Butterflies to investigate if there was anything unusual in the quiet night.

She could only sense a hidden danger from Ashera’s strange behavior.

Then, Beili immediately grabbed Ashera’s pale, cold fingers that were resting on her shoulder.

“Unseal my magic first, just in case there’s danger,” she said in a low, urgent voice.

Ashera glanced at her lazily, a hint of a smile dancing in his golden eyes. He asked in a slow, deliberate tone, “My dear Little Butterfly, if I unseal your magic, what will you do?”

Beili thought for a moment and continued in a low voice, “I’ll use Beast Transformation the moment before danger strikes, fly high into the sky, and get some distance. Once I’m out of danger, I’ll find a place to hide.”

She paused for a beat, then added as an afterthought, “Of course, I’ll definitely find a way to regroup with you…”

Ashera laughed softly.

He took the opportunity to hold her hand, his thumb gently stroking the back of it.

He hummed in thought, his eyes filled with an obvious smile.

Then, he said lazily, “That would be so boring-”

“My dear Little Butterfly, how about I don’t unseal your magic? You stay by my side and watch as I kill them one by one.”

…

Before Ashera’s words could even land, Beili immediately shook her head.

Just then, a figure appeared silently in front of them, blocking their path.

As the two of them drew closer, the person bowed slightly.

“Your Highness, please come with me.”

In the night, the voice was respectful and low.

However.

Before the words coming from beneath the wide brim of the hat could fully settle, Black Silk Ribbons appeared in Beili’s vision.

They flew out from her peripheral vision, moving rapidly toward the man under the cover of the dark night.

In the blink of an eye, they had completely enveloped the person blocking the way.

Ashera acted as if nothing had happened, keeping his arm around her shoulder as they walked past the person who was now wrapped like a mummy.

Out of the corner of her eye, Beili saw that the man still maintained his slight bowing posture, but his silhouette had visibly become thin and withered, as if his blood had been instantly sucked dry. He was shriveled beyond human recognition.

With another blink, he turned into a small pile of dust, which was gradually smoothed over by the night wind.

The Cradle River flowed slowly, reflecting the moon and stars, carrying a hint of eerie tranquility at this moment.

“Your Highness, it is the King of Nauze’s command to bring you to the Imperial Palace. Please do not make things difficult for us.”

A figure suddenly appeared behind them, speaking in a low voice.

Ashera curled his lips and smiled silently. He suddenly turned his head and leaned intimately against the person beside him, gently rubbing his chin against her forehead. He asked in a laughing tone, “Little Butterfly, do you think he’ll dodge to the left or to the right?”

The girl said nothing.

Immediately following that was the dull thud of a body being pierced by something sharp, along with a scream that was cut short before it could escape.

“Guessed right. He dodged to the left, because the river is on the right,” he said with a light laugh.

“…”

Beili sighed inwardly.

This time, Beili wasn’t actually frightened by Ashera’s scene of slaughter; she was simply frustrated and frantic in her heart.

-Why did the Mages of the Nauze Kingdom like to feed him kills one by one?

Wasn’t this just lining up to be health packs?

She really didn’t want Ashera to absorb a large amount of Mana in such a short period of time.

If these Mages attacked as a whole team, then Ashera might have chosen to take her and run away.

So, when she saw several more figures gradually emerge from the darkness.

*Thank goodness, they’re finally moving out together,* she thought silently to herself.

Beili quietly watched the several Brown-clothed People who appeared, her gaze quickly scanning them.

There were about seven or eight people blocking the way.

So, if seven or eight people were added together, could they manage to seriously injure Ashera?
Oh, she would be even more delighted if these Mages managed to wound him severely, forcing him back to Sainthos to recuperate for several years.

Of course, one couldn’t judge the level of Mana simply by outward appearance.

Furthermore, Beili couldn’t get a clear read on Ashera’s current Mana levels.

Now that Ashera had reclaimed his eyes, he killed every Mage he encountered, completely abandoning his previous restraint.

If he were to reclaim his Torso as well…

While she was lost in thought, Ashera stopped, his arm still around her.

His black robes swayed slightly in the wind.

His cascading silver hair seemed to gather the starlight, shimmering with a cold luster under the moonlight.

His thin lips curved into a handsome arc, and his golden eyes held a lazy smile, though their depths remained dark and profound.

The night street was exceptionally quiet, save for the occasional cry of a nightingale and the sound of the flowing river.

Those Brown-clothed People had clearly given up on polite persuasion. They intended to use other means to bring him to the Imperial Palace to meet the King of Nauze.

During the standoff, silence fell for a few seconds.

Beili was secretly cheering for the Brown-clothed People in her heart when she suddenly felt the cold hand release her shoulder and gently stroke her hair.

Ashera let out a helpless sigh and said to her:

“It seems we can’t go back immediately. My dear Little Butterfly, wait for me here, alright?”

He spoke with his head lowered. Although his voice was full of helplessness, Beili could clearly hear the upward lilt at the end of his sentence.

There was a faint tone of excitement.

It was as if a sumptuous dinner had been laid out before him.

Beili grabbed his hand again and whispered urgently, “If you’re leaving, undo the Mana seal on me first.”

Ashera’s lips curled. As if he hadn’t heard her, he left a cold kiss on her forehead.

He repeated, “Wait for me here. Don’t run off.”

His cold finger lightly brushed against her nose.

“It won’t be long. I hope you’re still here waiting for me when I return,” Ashera said softly.

As the man’s voice faded, Beili looked up to say something more, only to find that he was already gone.

She was left alone on the empty street in the night.

Beili pursed her lips and attempted a Beast Transformation. To her surprise, she successfully turned into a butterfly.

It seemed Ashera had indeed lifted the magic restriction he had placed on her.

-That damn Demon, he didn’t even say anything after undoing it.

The butterfly with shimmering blue-green wings flapped a few times in the air before landing gracefully and changing back into human form.

Under the moonlight, a conflicted expression appeared on the face of the grey-haired, red-eyed girl.

Although she had regained her Mana, it was clear she couldn’t just leave.

Because Ashera had only gone to enjoy his ‘dinner.’

If he wasn’t reduced to a Black Lamb by those Mages, he would only return with even stronger Mana than before.

Moreover, she knew perfectly well that if she left now and Ashera found her gone upon his return, that fellow would be absolutely furious.

Then he would just catch her again and reseal her Mana.

But then again-

If Ashera returned after his dinner and found her waiting obediently, he might not be angry, but he would still very likely reseal her Mana with a beaming smile.

So the only difference between the two decisions was whether or not Ashera would be angry.

Beili stood there, torn.

Just then, a familiar carriage suddenly appeared in her line of sight.

It was the same carriage from the riverside this afternoon.

Seeing the carriage, her deep red eyes instantly lit up under the moonlight.

So this was the tactic these people had come up with.

They realized Ashera wasn’t easily persuaded, his moods were unpredictable, and his Mana was unfathomable. So, they used a roundabout method-

First, lure Ashera away, then start with her and take her to the Imperial Palace. Ashera would naturally follow her to the Imperial Palace to find her.

Just as she was thinking this, the carriage door slowly opened, and a girl with curly brown hair leaned out.

An elegant and polite smile was on her face.

“Please board the carriage-”

“You are the esteemed seventeenth-in-line, Princess Theresa Dobin, right? Wait for me, I’m coming.”

Before she could finish, Beili had already lifted her skirt and walked quickly toward the carriage.

Beili could almost imagine that if she refused after Princess Theresa issued the invitation, a Mage would surely step out from the shadows and cast Immobilization Magic on her.

Of course Beili wouldn’t refuse.

Just when she was worrying about not having a good reason to leave, the reason had arrived.

With a series of light footsteps, she boarded the carriage without hesitation.
