Novel Info

Daisy enjoyed a luxurious hot bath, then wrapped herself in a bathrobe and lay down on the soft bed.

Even in Thorn Prison, the treatment of Nobles and commoners was different.

The Nobles imprisoned here usually had their families bribe various levels of the prison staff, allowing them to live in single rooms that, though small and simple, were still relatively comfortable.

If enough gold was paid, Nobles could even select a few commoners who were also imprisoned here to serve as personal attendants.

Just like Daisy.

Every month, Daisy’s parents not only bribed the management of Thorn Prison, but also sent her beautiful dresses, jewelry, and perfume on time.

So, in her view, aside from not being able to leave the prison, life here seemed little different from home.

“Little Bartholomew-”

Drawing out the last syllable, Daisy habitually called out, just about to order her maid to open the cabinet and fetch her skincare products, when she remembered that the girl had gotten lost during the earlier chaotic and thrilling adventure.

But she was just a commoner; Daisy didn’t care. She could find another one tomorrow.

She picked up a white box from beside her pillow. The box was exquisitely crafted, its surface perfectly covered with smooth, white shell pieces, and its corners inlaid with pearls-each one uniform in size, round and lustrous, glowing softly.

Daisy opened the box and took out a bottle of rose essential oil. She dripped the oil onto her hands, spread it, and applied it to her hair. Then she took out another jar, scooped out some cream with her fingertip, and carefully smoothed it over her face.

Once all the steps were done, Daisy slipped under the covers.

She closed her eyes, humming a tune, completely unaware of the black figure blending into the darkness in the corner beyond the reach of candlelight.

Only a pair of eyes, glowing with a crimson, blood-like hue, could be seen.

Beili seemed to have slept for a while.

When she opened her eyes again, she was still surrounded by pitch darkness.

Her back ached from leaning against the hard wall, her bottom was sore from the pressure, and her legs were numb.

What a nightmare.

She stretched her aching arms, wondering why her hair suddenly smelled of rose essential oil after waking up, when she abruptly realized-Ashera was no longer in her arms.

She opened her mouth, about to speak, when footsteps sounded outside the door, drawing closer.

Was it the patrol officer again?

Beili froze for a moment, then hurriedly crawled forward, trying to hide under the bed again.

But after just one step, her face bumped into a wall of flesh.

Her lips pressed against the soft ‘wall,’ and the ‘flesh wall’ let out a muffled grunt.

A faint breath brushed across her face.

Beili stiffened, then quickly shrank back, momentarily forgetting all about the patrol officer.

Light spilled into the room from the small window in the iron door.

By that light, Beili saw Ashera’s golden, slit pupils.

Unfocused, strange, and beautiful golden slit pupils.

Someone knocked on the iron door, then tossed something through the small window.

The object landed with a soft sound, rolled a short distance across the floor, and finally came to a stop.

The person outside had no intention of lingering; after throwing the item in, they quickly walked away.

The cell was plunged into darkness once more.
The boy’s eyes could not convey emotion.

But he tilted his head, clearly a bit bewildered.

On the other side, Beili was also wide-eyed and utterly confused.

Goodness!

She screamed “goodness!” in her heart.

If she guessed right, they had just kissed again!

But then, why was this villainous fifth male, Ashera, sitting so properly on his knees in front of her?

Was he watching her sleep?

But he couldn’t see!

If he hadn’t blocked her way, she wouldn’t have kissed him!

“Um… just now…” Beili coughed awkwardly, tactically shifting the topic, “What did that person throw in just now?”

“Food…”

The boy answered softly, his tone still tinged with confusion, as if his mind hadn’t moved on from the accidental kiss.

So it was food. Beili nodded, about to ask what kind of food it was, when a warm breath suddenly brushed against her ear.

“Do… do you want to eat?”

For some reason, he leaned close to her ear to ask, his voice carrying a faint hint of amusement.

Not expecting him to suddenly come so close, Beili was startled, and her ear felt ticklish.

She shrank her shoulders, feeling a bit uncomfortable, but still answered softly:

“I’ll have some.”

The warm breath disappeared, the iron bed creaked, and Beili knew Ashera was picking up the food for her.

“It’s… it’s bread.”

The boy’s voice came from the darkness, and after a moment, the bread was placed in Beili’s hand.

She squeezed it and found that this so-called bread was as hard as a rock!

What was this?

Dalieba?!

She brought the bread to her nose and sniffed-it even had a faint sour smell.

Beili: …

“Is this what you usually eat?”

Beili could hardly believe it. “Is there nothing else to eat besides this bread every day?”

“….”

In the darkness, the boy pondered for a long while before answering, “If… if we’re lucky… at… at night there’s… there’s also apples.”

Apples?

Ugh! This wretched prison doesn’t even offer a scrap of meat? How does this guy even grow?

Beili was speechless. With such a harsh environment, even she would go crazy.

“What about you, aren’t you going to eat?”

Suddenly, Beili remembered-if she wasn’t mistaken, there was only one ‘Dalieba’ thrown into the cell.

He’d given it all to her, so what would he eat?

“You… you eat.”

The boy didn’t seem to mind.

“If… if you want food… the… the bread and… and apples here… every day… I’ll give them all to you.”

He struggled to finish the long sentence.

All… for her? Beili was stunned.

“Why?” she asked, puzzled.

“Why…”

The boy let out a low, soft laugh.

“Because w-we’re friends… cough… I-I won’t… let a friend d-die… because they have no food.”
