Chapter 68

Paji had been killed by the two princes of the Nauze Kingdom.

Her corpse, pinned to the green hedge wall, looked increasingly ghastly and terrifying under the glow of the silver flames.

Beili pondered, saying with uncertainty, “Why would Prince Tyrone and Prince Bruno of the Nauze Kingdom kill Paji? She isn’t an heir to any kingdom.”

“Does being an heir matter?”

He raised an eyebrow, his tone slow and drawn out. “Perhaps they simply discovered the new rules of the game and couldn’t wait to vent the resentment in their hearts.”

Silently finishing the absorption of the residual Death Mana from the corpse, Beili stood still. She hesitated for a moment before asking tactfully:

“Does the winner have to be decided among the heirs of Sainthos, Nauze, and Tilisha for this closing Hunt Banquet to end?”

“Hmm…?” Ashera let out a soft hum from the bridge of his nose, the corners of his cold, thin lips curling upward. “You actually know?”

His lazy tone carried a faint hint of pleasant surprise.

“I guessed,” Beili said.

Hearing her answer, Ashera paused slightly, then lowered his hollow golden eyes.

A cold, broad palm rested on her head.

His smile widened as he ruffled her hair, chuckling softly. “I thought you could also hear the Words of Sin in their hearts… Turns out your little head just spins quite fast.”

Words of Sin?

Beili opened her red eyes, looking at him with a dazed expression.

What are Words of Sin…

Could it be that Ashera can hear people’s thoughts whenever they have evil intentions…

Like mind-reading, but limited only to the wicked parts?

There was absolutely no mention of this in the original story.

She thought over his words, then lowered her voice, asking tentatively, “So… you can hear the Sinful Thoughts of others?”

Ashera’s lips curved into a smirk.

“You’re getting curious about me again, Little Butterfly.”

As he spoke, he tapped the girl’s nose lightly with his fingertip.

Beili frowned and was about to raise her hand when she suddenly realized that this time, he had used his clean hand-the one not stained with blood.

“Yes, you guessed correctly.”

His voice was lazy.

“Was I right about how the closing Hunt Banquet ends, or was I right about you hearing Sinful Thoughts?” Beili pressed, following his lead.

“…”

Ashera smiled but said nothing.

Beili blinked her red eyes, staring at his face.

Under the reflection of the silver flames, the man’s pale face looked like a meticulously carved work of art. Every line possessed a unique beauty shaped by the hands of a god.

Right now, he was smiling.

Gradually, the arc of his lips grew wider and wider.

Then.

He suddenly lowered his head and began to laugh in a low voice.

The laughter grew increasingly distorted and eerie, echoing through the deathly silent, dark Maze.

Beili’s heart couldn’t help but race along with it.

Before her heart could leap out of her chest, she raised both hands and quickly covered Ashera’s mouth, then forced herself to stay calm as she said, “It seems I was right about both.”

The eerie laughter stopped abruptly.

His hollow, soulless golden eyes ‘looked’ at the girl. Ashera slowly pulled Beili’s hands away, drew her into his cold embrace, and then picked her up.

“Since you guessed correctly, I should give you a gift, shouldn’t I?”

Hearing the word ‘gift,’ Beili instantly recalled the scene in the Dream Corridor from last time.

Her body tensed up immediately.

She struggled in his arms for a moment before suddenly undergoing a Beast Transformation, turning into a butterfly with shimmering blue-green wings to fly upward. At the same time, she rejected him coldly: “Take back your strange gifts, Ashera!”

Hardly had the words left her mouth when she crashed into a cold ‘wall’ in mid-air.

The ram-horned man appeared before her in the blink of an eye, his fingers as cold as ice sculptures pinching her wings.

He then forcibly undid her Beast Form, his curved arms tightening around her as he pulled her back into his embrace.

Beili felt extremely frustrated.

Her hair was practically standing on end.

“I think I have no need for that for the time being, respected… uh… Mr. Ashera.”

Her voice became polite and gentle as she carefully weighed her words.

Ashera, however, acted as if he hadn’t heard her.

He tilted his chin, drawing out his words with a clear smile on his lips as he murmured softly, “Hmm… let me think about what gift would be good to give you this time…”

His pale toes remained suspended in the air as he continued forward.

Below them, the silver ball of fire gradually shrank, fading away like a vanishing star.

…

The figures of the two were gradually swallowed by the surrounding darkness.

After drifting for a while, the grey-haired, red-eyed girl couldn’t help but ask, “Where exactly are you taking me?”

Just as she finished speaking, a spark of light as small as a pea appeared in her field of vision.

That was… where Cyril and the others were?

“Are we going back?” Beili asked softly.

Ashera made a “shushing” sound and rested his chin on her head, saying with a half-smile, “You need to be quiet now, or you’ll scare the others. Understood?”

Then, as the girl looked up in confusion, he lowered his head and pressed a gentle kiss against her warm lips.

And just as she let out a startled gasp, he pried open her teeth, invading with a piercing, deathly chill.

…

Soon, their lips parted.

Beili was fuming. She raised her fist, ready to strike Ashera’s chest, when she suddenly heard the low murmurs of several people echoing in her mind.

There were both male and female voices-

“Killing that person today… was so satisfying… so satisfying…”

“After dawn… we must ambush them…”

“Destroy everything… let it all be destroyed together…”

“Where on earth did those two fellows Tyrone and Bruno go… How can I beat Cyril and the others alone… It would be best if I can regroup with them tomorrow…”

“She is very smart… and well-protected… I must think of another way…”

…
