Chapter 72

Using the Tracking Ladybug, Beili underwent Beast Transformation into a butterfly and circled around. Before long, she found Cyril.

The ‘green hedge’ walls of the Maze in this area were shaped to look completely withered and decayed.

There wasn’t a single leaf; only dark brown branches remained.

At that moment, Cyril was in a standoff with a stout youth.

This youth was none other than the prince from the Nauze Kingdom-the Thirteenth Highness, Boris.

However, the flamboyant, luxurious formal attire he wore was currently torn, and there were bruises and bloodstains on his face.

Clearly, the Defensive Magic Pendants hanging around his neck had already shattered; otherwise, he wouldn’t be in such a pathetic state.

Beili gently flapped her shimmering blue-green wings and landed softly on Cyril’s shoulder.

Her dark purple eyes stared at the shocked and furious Boris.

Cyril didn’t even spare her a glance, asking in a flat tone, “What is it?”

Hearing the butterfly on his shoulder recount Lance’s situation, Cyril’s expression darkened.

The black-haired, purple-eyed youth ignored the miserably defeated Boris. In the blink of an eye, he underwent Beast Transformation into his Black Panther form.

The Black Panther opened its mouth, gently taking the butterfly into its maw, then turned and leaped, racing toward the Maze Center.

“Wait… it’s actually more convenient if I fly there myself…”

Beili sighed helplessly, pausing before adding, “And steadier.”

Cyril ignored her.

On the way, Beili told Cyril about the cause of Paji’s death, but she hesitated for a moment and decided not to mention her suspicions regarding the struggle for the kingdom’s succession.

Now is not the right time to talk about this, she thought.

Cyril wasn’t particularly surprised after hearing it, nor did he feel angry because the deceased was from Sainthos.

He simply gave a faint “Mm” in response.

Beili found it a bit strange, but she didn’t dwell on it.

Soon, the panther and the butterfly returned to the pool at the Maze Center.

The Black Panther released its hold, placing the butterfly on the grass.

In the blink of an eye, both returned to their human forms.

***

By the pool.

The red-haired, black-eyed youth was lying lazily on the soft, tender green grass.

His bright maple-red short hair fell back, revealing a well-shaped forehead, though his face seemed to have grown much paler.

Susanna was crouching beside him.

Her eyes were rimmed with red, and tear stains still marked her face, but her emotions had calmed down.

Seeing them return, Lance’s black eyes lit up, and his narrow fox-like eyes curved upward.

“Oh… dear Luoluo, and my dear friend, you’ve finally arrived.”

Susanna also stood up. Her eyes were like those of a startled fawn, and her voice trembled slightly as she said, “Prince Cyril, Sister Bartholomew, I…”

“Cyril, come and help me!”

Lance pulled back the corners of his mouth, a brilliant smile on his face.

He waved at Cyril and said in a cheerful tone, “Others might come here later. Don’t let me stay in such a pathetic state for too long.”

Cyril walked closer with quick steps.

His dark purple eyes swept over the deep pool.

Then.

He spoke in an incredibly cold and solemn tone, “Lance, your leg can’t be saved.”

…!

What?

Cyril’s words were like a sudden thunderclap, exploding in the ears of the three people without warning, leaving their minds blank.

Only a ringing sound remained.

The smile on Lance’s face froze instantly, and the curve of his lips slowly faded.

A dark cloud settled over his features.

After a moment, he curled his lips again and asked with a smile, “Cyril, you’re joking, right?”

In his ore-black pupils, a flicker of hope faintly surfaced.

Cyril looked at him without blinking, his face expressionless, his amethyst-like eyes cold.

“I never joke. You can choose to stay here forever for the sake of this leg, or I can help you. The choice is yours,” Cyril said coldly.

But before Lance could make a decision, the grass beneath them suddenly shifted an inch toward the pool.

Everyone felt it.

Those standing couldn’t help but stagger.

Lance reacted quickly, crawling backward, nearly falling into the water.

His eyes flickered several times. He propped himself up and looked up at Cyril.

Cyril frowned deeply, turning to the speechless and shocked Bartholomew beside him. “Go to Lance now. Talk to him and distract him.”

On the other side.

Hearing Cyril’s words, Susanna covered her mouth with both hands and took a step back.
Her face was deathly pale, tears streaming down once more as her lips and shoulders trembled.

“Okay…”

Beili walked quickly to Lance’s side and knelt down.

She looked into the young man’s exceptionally calm, deep, and dark black eyes.

Her fingers clenched and her red eyes flickered. After a moment, she asked in frustration, “I… what am I supposed to say!”

At that moment.

Cyril, who had already walked some distance away, heard her words and his brow knitted together.

“Say whatever you want! Can’t you even manage a simple conversation?”

He spoke in a cold, harsh tone, then turned his head away and focused on chanting a long, complex incantation.

A moment later.

A sharp sword, glinting with a cold light, appeared in his hand.

…

Beili racked her brain for jokes or stories she had heard before, but as she opened her mouth, her mind remained a complete blank.

She had never been a person who was good at communicating.

“Lan, Lance… um… have you ever heard… a story…”

She spoke haltingly, her mind racing to think of something.

But… to hell with stories!

Rather than telling stories, she wanted to try a few more times!

Beili pressed her lips thin, a faint light shimmering in her red eyes as she summoned several more Morpho Butterflies beside her.

But without exception, the moment they touched the pool water, they fell slowly as if their guiding strings had been cut.

Beili’s teeth chattered slightly with frustration.

“Miss Bartholomew.”

The red-haired, black-eyed youth beside her suddenly called her name in a very serious tone.

“Um… I’m here.”

As if startled awake, Beili lowered her red eyes to look at him.

Beneath his vibrant maple-red hair.

The youth’s obsidian-like eyes were deep and intense. When he gazed at her quietly, it felt as if he could pull in all of a person’s attention.

“Miss Bartholomew, you…”

Lance blinked, a hint of a smile playing at the corners of his lips as he said in an embarrassed tone, “Aren’t you curious why I participated in this closing Hunt Banquet?”

Beili’s shoulders stiffened slightly. After a moment’s thought, she said, “Perhaps Your Highness… did it for the honor of the Tilisha Kingdom.”

“There’s no need to think of me as so noble. I came with selfish motives.”

Lance’s lips curled upward, his voice tinged with a touch of helplessness.

In previous years of the Holy Island Competition, Prince Lance had never put in any effort.

If the Academy happened to schedule Prince Lance’s match in the morning, the sleepyheaded prince would simply skip it entirely.

Threaten him with poor grades or having to retake courses? Tell him he wouldn’t graduate?

Oh, please.

The Prince of the Tilisha Kingdom didn’t care at all.

His Highness would graduate whenever he felt like graduating!

“It couldn’t be for… er…”

*It couldn’t be for me, could it?*

Those words were truly hard to say out loud.

Beili’s lips twitched as she forced a seemingly relaxed, helpless smile.

“You guessed correctly, Miss Bartholomew. I did it for you.”

Seeing Beili’s expression, a smile broke across Lance’s face. He said, “The last time we met, I said I wanted to ask you for a favor, remember?”

“Susanna, come over and get ready to heal him,”

Cyril walked over and gave the command in a calm voice.

“O-okay…”

Susanna snapped back to her senses, hurriedly wiping the tears from her face as she knelt by Lance’s legs to prepare.

“What favor?”

Beili followed Lance’s lead, asking the question to keep his mind focused on her.

She pulled the youth into her arms.

She reached out and gently placed her hand over his face, effectively shielding most of his vision.

“What kind of favor did you want to ask me for?”

She tried her best to keep her voice gentle.

Lance’s expression faltered for a moment. His stagnant black eyes looked up, and as they met Bartholomew’s face, they overflowed with a smile again.

He said, “Oh… I really don’t know when this became my mission… but yes, I made a bet with them-that I would secure the first dance with the new female student at the orientation ball.”

Out of the corner of her eye, Beili saw Cyril raise the sword.

“That sounds incredibly childish…”

Beili’s lips curled into a helpless smile. “Are all the male students at Holy Island Academy like this?”

“Luoluo, you don’t understand. This is a contest between men. On the surface, they call me a ‘sly fox,’ but inside, they’re actually green with envy…”

In the next second.

There was the sound of a sharp blade slicing through bone.

Susanna bit back a sob. After trembling as she recited the incantation, a shimmering green light emanated from her palms.
