Chapter 74

Her crimson eyes flickered for a moment. Beili sighed helplessly and said, “I don’t have such plans for the time being, Prince Cyril.”

“I thought you were planning to go look for that blind person.”

Cyril let out a cold snort and sat down on the grass with his knees bent.

The warm orange glow of the firelight danced across his face, but it failed to soften his expression.

“Speaking of that Blind Youth…”

Beili sat down as well and asked hesitantly, “Does Your Highness… know him?”

Beili always had the feeling that Cyril knew something about Ashera, which was something the original book hadn’t mentioned.

In the original story, Cyril and Ashera had no interaction at all. By the time they did start interacting, Cyril was already working with the female lead, Susanna, trying everything they could to kill that Blind Youth.

However, the original book didn’t have much reference value anymore.

The story of the original book was drifting further and further away from the present reality.

At least in the original story, aside from the fifth male lead, Ashera-who was burned to a pile of ashes by the Exorcism Flame-the other supporting characters basically followed a set routine: they would make a dashing entrance, resolve a problem for the female lead while building some romantic tension, and then make a dashing exit.

Furthermore, in the original story, Lance’s legs remained perfectly fine until the very end.

Cyril’s gaze and voice both turned cold.

“Furthermore, if you plan to act alone in this Maze, you should be prepared to fall into a desperate situation.”

The corners of his lips curled downward slightly as he said slowly, “If you pray while in a desperate situation, do not include my name in your prayers, because I will not appear.”

Beili didn’t know what had set Cyril off or why he was suddenly being so aggressive.

However, she didn’t want to argue with him.

So Beili simply blinked and said, “Alright, Your Highness.”

She looked completely unbothered.

Cyril stared at her with his violet eyes, his expression darkening further.

Ignoring him, Beili pondered the details of the pool and asked, “When does Your Highness plan to end this Hunt Feast?”

“Tonight, or the next day. In any case, it won’t be long,” Cyril replied.

He answered very decisively-so decisively that Beili couldn’t help but wonder if he already knew how to end the Hunt Feast.

“Are you waiting for the Prince of Nauze?”

Beili blinked her crimson eyes and asked naturally.

“Yes,” Cyril said.

He really did know.

Or perhaps Cyril had known all along that the Withered Tree Pool was dangerous.

Otherwise, how could he have determined with a single glance that Lance’s leg had to be severed to save his life?

He was the male lead of the original book. In the original story, aside from having a bit of a temper, a foul mood, and a cold personality, his character wasn’t actually bad.

Could it be that the original book only described his good side and didn’t present his bad side…

Such speculation made Beili feel uneasy.

However, she still needed Cyril’s help for the time being.

So after hesitating for a long while, she asked a stupid, meaningless question-

“Prince Cyril… can I trust you?”

This question was indeed redundant and useless.

Anyone asked this question could resolve everything by simply giving a flippant reply of “Of course.”

But.

“No.”
Cyril spoke bluntly.

Beili: “…?”

“You can’t? …Really?” Beili froze, somewhat in disbelief.

Why?

I mean… did he have to be that direct?

Though she had always known this Big Ice Cube was a straight shooter, Beili had assumed that she and Cyril had already progressed to a partnership that was a bit closer than mere strangers.

Even if it was a bit forced, a contract partner was still a partner, right?

“As partners in a mutually beneficial cooperation, can’t we trust each other just for a little while?” Beili sighed helplessly.

“No.”

Cyril repeated.

The moment the words left his lips, the gray-white sky turned pitch black in the blink of an eye.

Fortunately, the orange-red fireball had already been conjured, dispelling the darkness surrounding the two of them.

“Bartholomew.”

Cyril suddenly called her name in a heavy tone.

A strange light flickered faintly in his amethyst-like eyes, and his fists tightened unconsciously. His voice was devoid of emotion.

He said, “Choosing to trust me will be the decision you regret most in your life, I swear.”

The gray-haired, red-eyed girl met his gaze. She blinked calmly yet inquisitively, then repeated clearly:

“I understand. Your Highness is not to be trusted.”

She plucked a blade of grass and tossed it into the floating fireball, adding nonchalantly as she followed his lead, “Even though Your Highness is not to be trusted, Your Highness possesses a sense of contractual integrity.”

She was reminding Cyril to fulfill the terms of their contract.

Cyril’s purple eyes darkened slightly, and he gave a cold, detached “Mhm.”

“It’s good that Your Highness remembers.”

Beili felt slightly relieved and nodded.

Cyril stopped speaking, and the atmosphere grew faintly subtle.

Then, in the next second, a cluster of silver light, twinkling like stars, appeared in Beili’s field of vision.

It was right behind Cyril, on the green hedge not far away.

The cluster of silver light lit up in the darkness, then went out.

It lit up again, then went out again.

Beili watched from a distance, her lips curling slightly. She had no intention of standing up from the grass to go take a look.

Noticing Bartholomew’s expression and gaze, Cyril frowned slightly and turned his head to look back.

The moment he turned, the silver light in the darkness happened to go out.

Cyril narrowed his purple eyes. For as long as he stared, the silver light remained extinguished.

Then.

Cyril withdrew his gaze and turned back around. The silver light immediately lit up behind him once more.

Beili’s lips quirked up in amusement, and she let out a short, soft chuckle.

But after meeting Cyril’s searching, cold-glinting gaze, she gave an awkward cough and lowered her head, no longer paying attention to the situation over there.

The orange-red fireball burned through the air and the thin grass she occasionally tossed in, making faint popping sounds.

Suddenly, two more ladybugs fell from Beili’s fingernails.

Those were the Hunters ranked eighth and ninth; both were students from Sainthos.

She picked up the ladybugs from the ground and put them away, informing Cyril of the two students’ deaths.

Cyril gave another “Mhm.” His reaction remained flat, as if he had already mentally prepared himself for their deaths.

After the silver light in the distance repeated its rapid flickering a few more times, it went out and did not light up again.
