Chapter 1

Chi Zhou paused, measuring the distance between us.

It was as if he couldn’t understand where I had suddenly gotten such strength.

I felt inexplicably guilty.

Of course, it was also possible that I was just terrified by the mention of the Zombie King in the Danmaku.

Chi Zhou furrowed his brows slightly. “Are you really not going to wash up?”

I nodded repeatedly, saying with lingering fear, “It’s fine, Chi Zhou. You’re the captain; you should save your mental energy to deal with the Zombies.”

Perhaps because it was the first time he had heard me say something so sensible, Chi Zhou didn’t say anything for a moment.

After a while, he slowly replied, “Alright.”

Even though I had refused the bath, Chi Zhou still dampened a towel and held my face, wiping it carefully.

I stared at the handsome face inches away from mine, my throat bobbing subconsciously.

Before I could indulge in my fangirl moment for more than a few seconds, the Danmaku began flooding the screen again:

[The Female Supporting Character Wen Yang is so dramatic and pretentious. Isn’t she just lusting after his looks?]

[The Male Lead is a STEM guy. This is the first time someone has pursued him so relentlessly; no wonder he fell into the trap set by this Female Supporting Character.]

[Is no one paying attention to the Male Lead’s Supernatural Ability? It’s water element.]

[True. The human body is about 70% water. As long as the Male Lead wants to, he could burst someone’s blood vessels or turn them into a mummified corpse at any time.]

[No wonder the Female Supporting Character insists on following the Male Lead. Isn’t he the ultimate golden thigh to cling to?]

I was speechless.

Seeing the Danmaku, I instinctively tried to snatch the towel to wipe my own face. However, the large hand around my waist tightened slightly.

Chi Zhou’s tone was gentle, but his words brooked no argument.

“We’ve been traveling all day. Let me help you wipe down so you can get to sleep quickly, okay?”

I nodded in silence.

I didn’t open my eyes again until Chi Zhou left to stand guard for the night.

The words from the Danmaku continued to bounce around in my mind.

According to the Danmaku, I was a selfish Female Supporting Character. In the future, Chi Zhou would dump me, and I would die at the hands of the Zombie King.

I shivered involuntarily.

Half a year ago, Earth was affected by an unknown object, causing a brief but massive spike in global temperatures. Ancient glaciers melted, unknown viruses ran rampant, and Zombies appeared.

But the virus also shattered the stability threshold of human genes. It allowed a small portion of people to avoid mutating into Zombies and instead awaken Supernatural Abilities.

Chi Zhou was one of them.

Ever since he rescued me from the clutches of a Zombie, I had clung to him. Perhaps it was the insecurity of living in an apocalypse, or perhaps it was because Chi Zhou was truly ridiculously handsome, shattering the stereotype of a traditional STEM guy.

I had fallen for him.

After three months of relentless pursuit, I finally managed to make him mine. Perhaps because the pursuit had been so exhausting, I started acting like a spoiled brat once we were together.

Despite being a parasite in the squad, I acted bossy and demanding. Chi Zhou was the captain, so even if the others were dissatisfied with me, they had to endure it.

But now, I could see the Danmaku. I knew that my current affectations and pretentiousness would meet with retribution in the future.

Even Chi Zhou, who currently doted on me, would eventually fall for a Female Lead who possessed Supernatural Abilities just like him.

I felt a groundless fear. I was afraid of dying in this apocalypse where Zombies and viruses ran wild. I was even more afraid of that unknown Zombie King.

Thinking about it, I couldn’t really blame anyone else. Who told me to be a mere ordinary person without any Supernatural Ability?

The next day, I didn’t wait for Chi Zhou to wake me up. I scrambled out of bed and got myself ready quickly.

Besides Chi Zhou and me, there were two others in the squad. One was an ordinary person like me named Sun Shuang. The other was an Ability User with lightning powers named Qi Sheng, whom we had picked up after he was separated from his previous group.

Seeing me wake up so early and even help him take inventory of the supplies, Sun Shuang’s eyes widened. I didn’t need to guess to know what he was thinking. I ignored him and continued to assist.

However, I couldn’t help but steal glances at Chi Zhou ahead of us. He was discussing the next route with Qi Sheng. His profile was cold and stern; he didn’t notice me at all.

The Danmaku drifted by at the perfect moment:

[Oh? Is the Female Supporting Character starting the “independent woman” route?]

[LOL, does she think this can change the ending?]

[In the original work, she started behaving around this time too, but the Male Lead was already tired of her.]

[Just wait. Once the Male Lead realizes she’s no longer clinging to him, he’ll be more than happy!]

I lowered my eyes, my chest feeling heavy. Would Chi Zhou… feel happy? I didn’t know. But every time I looked at him, I thought of the miserable end mentioned by the Danmaku.

So, I tried my best to avoid being alone with Chi Zhou.

As the day went on, I could sense that both Qi Sheng and Sun Shuang were a bit surprised. I smiled bitterly to myself. Of course they were.

In the past, whenever we were on the road, I would constantly demand something to drink or eat. If my butt hurt from sitting in the car too long, I would whine about it. I was basically looking for trouble every single second.

But today, the squad had traveled for a whole day, and I hadn’t uttered a single complaint. I even offered to drive, though Chi Zhou refused.

I had no choice but to sit quietly in the back seat, minimizing my presence as much as possible. If I stopped being dramatic… maybe I wouldn’t be hated. Even if I really encountered danger in the future, surely they wouldn’t just stand by and watch me die…
