The Beta Side Character - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
My name is Shu Yan, a psychotherapist.
I am currently standing in front of a top-tier VIP hospital room because I have accepted a commission from the Zhu Family.
Inside the room is my new patient and the target of my mission-the Zhu Family’s Young Master, Zhu Xingyao.
Zhu Xingyao is an omega, the childhood friend and betrothed of this book’s cold CEO Alpha, Luo Chi.
However, while studying at the military academy, Luo Chi met Gu Sizhe-a mysterious, fragile omega disguised as an Alpha. He fell hopelessly in love with Gu Sizhe and unilaterally broke off his engagement with Zhu Xingyao.
Zhu Xingyao traveled to the Exile Star where Luo Chi was stationed to demand an explanation, only to be betrayed by a traitor from the Zhu Family who had been hiding by his side all along.
Before he could even see Luo Chi, he was kidnapped by roaming interstellar pirates and subsequently violated by a group of thugs.
The Zhu Family found him quickly. The traitor committed suicide, and the pirates and thugs who assaulted him were all executed by firing squad. However, Zhu Xingyao remained trapped in a nightmare, unable to wake up no matter what.
Despite my youth, the Zhu Family trusts me because I am a rare psychotherapist with S-rank Psychic Power.
Generally, doctors whose Psychic Power reaches S-rank are recruited into the military and no longer serve private clients.
Furthermore, I am a beta.
So, when I pushed open the door and was nearly choked by the overwhelming scent of pear blossoms filling the room, my emotions remained perfectly calm.
I moved quickly to open the ventilation shafts.
However, the ventilation was barely effective at best, as the trembling blonde youth on the hospital bed was frantically leaking his pheromones.
The examining doctor said that Zhu Xingyao’s gland had been bitten to pieces.
On the day he was brought to the hospital, the back of his neck was a bloody mess, looking as if it had been torn by a wild beast.
I stood by the youth’s bed. The blonde hair on his forehead was soaked with sweat, and a hypnotic sleep mask covered half of his delicate face. His rosy lips were bitten raw in his unconscious state. The area where his head met his neck was flushed crimson, and his fair skin was coated in a thin layer of sweat, droplets rolling down into his white hospital gown.
The endless nightmare caused his thin body to tremble uncontrollably beneath the covers.
I sighed softly. Can a tarnished angel ever return to heaven?
I sat down in the treatment chair beside the bed and closed my eyes.
My Psychic Power enveloped Zhu Xingyao like the sea.
Slowly, I entered his dreamscape.
Zhu Xingyao was being pinned to the ground by several Alphas. He had never been to such a filthy place; the debris on the ground and the pungent chemical smell in the air suggested this was a waste disposal plant.
He didn’t want to see those disgusting faces, so he kept his eyes tightly shut.
But he couldn’t block his ears. The thugs riding him continued to spew foul, obscene words.
He couldn’t block his nose either. A cocktail of Alpha pheromones scrambled to surround him, making his skin crawl with physiological revulsion.
Zhu Xingyao didn’t know if the pain in his body or his heart was worse; he felt it would be better if he just died.
“Hey, he really is a Young Master. No wonder he’s so tender.”
The weight on him lifted and then dropped again as another person took over. Zhu Xingyao clenched his fists in despair.
“Scream!”
The man pried Zhu Xingyao’s mouth open and shoved his thumb inside.
So dirty, so salty, so sickening.
“Are you just incompetent?” someone nearby mocked.
Zhu Xingyao was humiliated and abused in a retaliatory fashion. He was marked yet again. When the man lifted his head, Zhu Xingyao smelled the faint scent of blood coming from the back of his neck.
Zhu Xingyao didn’t know when this torture would end.
He didn’t dare open his eyes to see how many people were surrounding him; he was terrified of those cruel eyes sizing him up like prey.
But a loud bang shattered his darkness.
Someone had fired a gun.
When he suddenly opened his eyes, Zhu Xingyao was momentarily blinded by the white light of the high chandelier above.
The Alpha who had been violating him collapsed on top of him, staining his filthy clothes with blood.
After that first bang, a continuous series of heavy strikes followed.
The thugs screamed and cursed, but they all fell within seconds.
I lowered the Light Bolt Gun in my hand and walked toward the still-motionless Zhu Xingyao.
He still retained a sliver of consciousness.
He saw me, but his beautiful gray eyes were dim and lifeless.
He closed his eyes again.
I kicked away the Alphas pinning Zhu Xingyao down, picked him up, and moved him to a clear space nearby.
As he fell into my arms, he frantically kept his eyes shut and grabbed my clothes, staining my white lab coat.
The Alpha pheromones in the air were dissipating, yet Zhu Xingyao continued to tremble in my embrace.
But I simply held him there, sitting in the wind.
Perhaps because I hadn’t moved for a long time, Zhu Xingyao finally mustered the resolve to look at me. Why hadn’t this newcomer hurt him like the others?
Zhu Xingyao opened his eyes only to see a pale girl with short brown hair watching him quietly.
The moment their eyes met, he surprisingly felt no fear. Instead, he felt a wave of soothing power.
“Who are you?” he asked, his voice hoarse.
“The one who came to save you,” I said.
