The Bullet Comments Say I'll Die, I'll Act Out to Perfection - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The crisp sound of the slap was exceptionally piercing in the silent room.
Time seemed to freeze.
Pei Yuheng’s head was tilted to one side, a few strands of black hair falling over his forehead.
He remained frozen there.
After a long moment, he slowly turned back.
A clear red handprint was surfacing on his pale cheek.
His Adam’s apple bobbed once as his gaze landed on my face.
His eyes were dark and unreadable.
To make matters worse, the bullet comments were scrolling frantically across my vision:
[Ooh! The Little Troublemaker just lit another acceleration lamp on her path to hell!]
[Who doesn’t know that the Male Lead is deaf in one ear because his stepmother slapped him so hard as a child that she literally broke it?!]
[She’s stepping on every single landmine! After this slap, the Male Lead is definitely going to have a flashback to his childhood trauma!]
[She deserves it! I’ve had enough of this substitute drama queen!]
[Just waiting for the White Moonlight to return so I can see how this fake dies!]
[She still won’t stop even after the divorce. To think she dared to make a scene in front of the original… she’s completely enraged the Male Lead. Her ending is going to be tragic… tsk tsk.]
My whole body trembled, and I nearly collapsed.
Pei Yuheng looked at me and suddenly raised his hand.
I thought he was going to retaliate exactly as the comments predicted.
Terrified, I scrambled back half a step.
However, he only reached into the inner pocket of his suit jacket and pulled out a deep blue velvet jewelry box.
He placed it in front of me and spoke coldly:
“There was an impromptu auction tonight. I saw this and thought you might like it.”
I froze.
I stared at the box in disbelief and suspicion.
Then I looked at his expressionless face.
So he was late because he went to an auction, and he even remembered to buy something for me?
A sliver of hope had just begun to rise in my heart when the bullet comments floating before my eyes instantly crushed it to pieces.
[Is this idiot actually moved? Hilarious!]
[The White Moonlight saw this jewelry in a magazine years ago and casually told the Male Lead she liked it.]
[Too bad he never got to give it to her. The White Moonlight was forced by the Male Lead’s power-hungry father to jump into the sea and commit suicide.]
[Buying it now for the substitute is just his way of using that similar face to make up for the regrets of the past.]
[Let her enjoy it for now. When the original returns, he’ll make her spit out everything she’s taken! No, she’ll have to spit out her very life!]
My hand, which had already reached halfway out, snapped back as if I’d been electrocuted.
I spoke almost in a panic:
“I don’t want it.”
“I… I don’t like it.”
Pei Yuheng paused, his brow furrowing slightly.
His gaze turned scrutinizing.
“Why?”
“Didn’t you used to love these things the most?”
I instinctively avoided his gaze.
According to my previous persona, I definitely would have been secretly delighted while complaining about his poor taste.
But not now.
I didn’t want to die.
I could only force myself to look away reluctantly.
I squeezed out a considerate smile:
“I… I’m just worried you’re working too hard.”
“It’s not easy for you to earn money. Don’t waste it on me.”
Pei Yuheng raised an eyebrow slightly.
“But didn’t you say last time that the reason I earn money is for you to spend?”
He took half a step forward, his voice dropping an octave:
“Besides… if you’re really worried about me being tired…”
“Then tonight, you can be the one on top.”
Me: “…?”
