Novel Info

The fifth child, due to Zhang Yanfen’s malnutrition during pregnancy and the constant threats and beatings from Li Yong, was born prematurely and died at birth, without even a breath.

Zhang Yanfen was supposed to be in confinement, but when she heard Li Yong wanted to feed the premature, deceased baby to the pigs, she struggled to crawl out of bed. She had only one thought in her heart: to give her child a proper burial.

That was why she appeared at the Incense and Candle Shop.

Unfortunately, she was still discovered by Li Yong.

Jiang Ci asked her, “Panpan, is your little sister’s Infant Spirit still at home?”

If an Infant Spirit harbors Resentment, it can become an Evil Infant, whose destructive power rivals that of an Evil Ghost, capable of killing its own mother and anyone who prevented its birth.

Pandi shook her head, “My little sister stopped breathing as soon as she was born. I didn’t see any spirit.”

Jiang Ci pondered.

It seemed Zhang Yanfen’s fifth child was doomed from the start, as there was no soul to reincarnate, so death at birth was inevitable.

Perhaps it was for the best-at least no new sin was created, no more innocent soul added.

Pandi led her to the Old Factory Area, to the old house.

From afar, they could hear the sounds of a man’s shouting and cursing from the most dilapidated room upstairs.

“Bitch! Did you fall for that stinking brat selling funeral goods?”

“He could be your son! You fucking went to seduce him, do you have any shame?”

“Restless slut, I’ll beat you to death!”

Pandi’s face turned anxious, “He’s beating Mom again!”

Upstairs, the sounds of smashing and beating echoed, mixed with a woman’s weak pleas for mercy.

Jiang Ci quickly went upstairs and kicked open the broken wooden door.

She saw Zhang Yanfen trembling and curled up in the corner, her clothes torn to shreds, her emaciated body clad only in a tattered, hole-ridden undershirt, her pants ripped open, covered in muddy footprints from the man’s kicks and punches, with several mottled bloodstains faintly visible.

Her hair was disheveled, her eyes full of despair as she leaned against the wall, silent tears streaming down her bruised and swollen face.

Li Yong, with a cheap cigarette dangling from his mouth, sat panting opposite Zhang Yanfen. Hearing the door crash down, he turned around with a ferocious look, “Who the hell kicked down my door?”

Seeing it was a slender girl in a black dress, he habitually spat on the ground and flashed a greasy, lecherous grin, “Little girl, are you here to sell yourself? Got the wrong door, but since you broke my door, sleep with me and we’ll call it even.”

“Mom!” Pandi cried as she rushed to Zhang Yanfen’s side.

Unfortunately, Zhang Yanfen couldn’t see her, only turning her head with effort to look at Jiang Ci, “Quick… run!”

Li Yong was a complete scoundrel, indulging in eating, drinking, whoring, and gambling.

The girl in black was young and fair-skinned; Zhang Yanfen worried Li Yong’s beastly nature would get the better of him and he wouldn’t let her go.

Jiang Ci slowly walked into the room.

The already cramped room was filled with smoke and the stench of alcohol, the floor littered with cigarette butts and empty bottles.

On the small table nearby sat a half-finished bottle of Erguotou, Li Yong’s drink.

“Well, you really did come to me,” Li Yong’s smile grew even more obscene and frivolous as he reached out his filthy hand, trying to grope Jiang Ci’s backside.

Bang!!

Jiang Ci gave him no chance, grabbing the bottle and smashing it hard onto Li Yong’s head.

Li Yong’s head split open instantly, his eyes wide as blood gushed out, and he collapsed to the floor.

“You… you killed him-” Zhang Yanfen cried out in terror.

Jiang Ci casually pulled out a couple of tissues to wipe the blood from her hands, smiling faintly, “He won’t die. I controlled my strength.”

“Go put on some proper clothes. Leave the rest to me.”

Jiang Ci took out her Old Man Phone, searched for the number of the Fourth Hospital, called to ask for Chi Che’s number, and then dialed Chi Che.
Chi Che had been watering the flowers with a water gun, but as soon as he heard Jiang Ci calling him, he immediately tossed the gun aside and rushed off.

“Where are you going?” Bo Hanzhou watched him dash out, excited like a monkey.

Chi Che gave a mysterious smile. “The gods are summoning me. You wouldn’t understand. Bye-bye!”

He was thrilled all the way, until he arrived at the destination and saw a man lying in a pool of blood. Suddenly, he realized what was happening and cried out in despair, “Master Jiang, you didn’t kill someone and want me to help you dispose of the body, did you?”

“I’m a doctor, not an accomplice!”

Jiang Ci replied calmly, “Treat his wounds.”

“Huh?”

“I find it dirty, so you do it.”

Chi Che: “…?”

Alright then, Master Jiang only needs to look pretty.

He’d handle all the dirty and tiring work!

He went to the car and fetched the Medical Kit.

“Wow, you’ve cracked his skull. He needs to go to the hospital for a scan and a thorough check.”

“No need, he won’t die. Just stitch him up however you like.”

As Jiang Ci spoke, Zhang Yanfen came out in fresh clothes, followed by a little one.

Before leaving, Chi Che had slipped the Ghost-Seeing Talisman into his pocket. At a glance, he saw Pandi’s half-transparent body, and then looked at Zhang Yanfen’s bruised face. He instantly understood what was going on.

“He’s a domestic abuser!”

“Damn, I hate men who abuse their families the most. Useless at everything, so they take it out on women! Master Jiang, why save someone like him? You should chop him up and feed him to the pigs!”

“Hmm, good idea, but it’s a bit early for that.”

Zhang Yanfen was trembling uncontrollably. She said to Jiang Ci, “Miss, you should run. When this beast wakes up, he won’t let you go, nor your family…”

Mentioning her family made her think of her elderly father, whose leg had been broken by Li Yong and who was still bedridden.

Jiang Ci asked her, “Why didn’t you seek help?”

Zhang Yanfen looked hopeless. “I’ve tried everyone I could. But they all say it’s a family matter, that we should sort it out ourselves. At most, they make him write a guarantee or lock him up for a few days. But when he gets out, he beats me even worse…”

“I’ve run away many times. Every time he finds me, he beats me even more brutally.”

“He even threatened me: if I run again, he’ll kill my whole family and then himself…”

Zhang Yanfen covered her face and sobbed, “I wish I could kill him!”

She suddenly paused.

Yes, now this beast was completely powerless. Why not kill him and be free at last?

Thinking this, Zhang Yanfen quickly picked up the bottle Jiang Ci had used earlier, carefully wiped off her fingerprints, then gripped it herself.

Chi Che was dumbfounded by her actions. “Are you really going to ruin your whole life for a beast like him?”

“Sister, please don’t do anything rash!”

Chi Che looked at Jiang Ci, who remained unmoved. “Master, please talk her out of it. Killing someone means you’ll pay with your life!”

Jiang Ci said nothing, just quietly watched Zhang Yanfen.

Pandi didn’t want her mother to become a murderer either. She kept trying to snatch the bottle away, but her little hands passed right through it.

Zhang Yanfen stared at Li Yong, who was barely breathing, her eyes full of hatred. “My life was ruined the moment I married him, and my children… They should have grown up happy, but because I’m a weak and useless mother, I couldn’t protect them…”

Her trembling hand gripped the broken bottle tightly.

The sharp glass was aimed at Li Yong’s chest.

“This beast, he deserves to die!”
