Chapter 116

The moment Sheng An’s voice fell, a massive black bird swept past, carrying her high into the sky.

Simultaneously, several circling helicopters ascended straight toward the heavens.

The closer they got to the upper atmosphere, the more intense the pressure became.

As the giant bird neared one of the aircraft, a shadow flickered. Long Tianyu brought Sheng An into the central helicopter. Inside, besides the pilot Jiang Huanshu from Team 0, there was only Qiu Yu.

Long Tianyu didn’t linger. He moved to another aircraft and dropped Lou Mingwei onto Wu Buyu’s back.

They were all clad in combat gear, their fighting spirit soaring.

“When it comes to actual combat, we still have to rely on Group A,” Lou Mingwei remarked.

“Shut the hell up!” Wu Buyu cursed. “Keep it up and I’ll drop you!”

Lou Mingwei instantly backed down.

The monitors were still filled with static. “Didn’t the Communications Department prepare for this?” Qiu Yu asked. “Why have we lost the signal completely?”

“Wan Yuan and the others need time to calibrate,” Sheng An replied.

She stared at a different screen.

While the magnetic field interfered with signals and radio waves, this particular screen showed a magnified view of the airspace above. She reached out, adjusting the orientation and scale, keeping her eyes fixed on Long Tianyu and the others.

Qiu Yu’s voice was cold. “I need to control them.”

Sheng An didn’t look up. “I won’t allow it.”

This wasn’t the first time this exchange had occurred. Since the deployment began, Qiu Yu had applied multiple times to take control of the Superpower Users’ actions, and Sheng An had rejected every single request.

In this moment, the higher-ups had chosen Sheng An.

This was also related to their historical roles; from childhood, Qiu Yu had always been Sheng An’s support.

For this operation, Sheng An was the primary person in charge.

With a crisis of this magnitude at hand, Qiu Yu didn’t want to fight for the position, but she wanted the right to control the Superpower Users.

She didn’t trust these people who hadn’t undergone years of rigorous training, nor did she trust their willpower. She feared that at the most critical moment, someone would flinch-and a single mistake would mean total defeat.

She would not allow anyone to retreat!

However, Sheng An refused her request for control every time.

Qiu Yu’s hands clenched into fists.

Her eyes were glued to the screen.

Countdown: 3 minutes.

The meteors were drawing closer; the sky was already bathed in a crimson glow.

Countdown: 2 minutes.

The helicopters swayed slightly. The people inside were on edge, their Supernatural Abilities active and restless.

Countdown: 1 minute.

The largest cluster of meteors hit the atmosphere.

At that exact moment, Sheng An shouted, “Wu Buyu, Lou Mingwei!”

Her voice boomed through the helicopter’s external speakers.

Wu Buyu let out a long cry. His wings snapped tight and then unfurled like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Stepping onto the wind currents sent by Nie Changsui, he carried Lou Mingwei toward the heights of heaven at a terrifying speed.

Feathers drifted off his body, but he didn’t care in the slightest.

Even the usually flighty Lou Mingwei looked solemn now. He raised his hands.

“Roar-!”

He let out a guttural cry, his expression contorted. His entire body seemed to surge with electricity as a blinding light erupted from his palms. Lightning shot out like two giant dragons, dragging the thunderclouds together into a collision.

*Crack-boom!*

The colliding thunderclouds generated a staggering amount of electricity.

This lightning became his weapon, striking the meteors and pulling the thunderclouds into dense, overlapping layers. The massive meteors, which had been hurtling toward the ground at lethal speeds, suddenly slowed down.

The friction between the atmosphere and the meteors sent flames roaring into the sky. The resulting atmospheric storm instantly shredded the helicopters directly below.

The pilots, prepared for this, had already bailed out.

These helicopters were never meant to carry passengers for long; they were primarily platforms to ensure the members of the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department had a starting point. Every pilot in this mission represented the nation’s absolute elite.

Lou Mingwei was undoubtedly powerful.

Those who awakened early were all High-Level Superpower Users, but pulling thunderclouds, harnessing frictional electricity, and stacking clouds to decelerate meteors required an immense amount of energy at every step.
The moment the meteorite slowed down, Lou Mingwei collapsed, foaming at the mouth.

In the next instant, Long Tianyu used Flash to catch him and bring him back inside the plane.

Simultaneously, the passengers on Wu Buyu’s back were replaced by Ke Jiaxue, Huang Weiyang, and Xiang Hanshuang.

Two Water Abilities and one Ice Ability.

Countdown: 30 seconds.

The atmosphere was composed of gases. Ke Jiaxue and Huang Weiyang activated their Supernatural Abilities at the same time, converting the atmosphere surrounding the meteorite back into water. A moment later-

“Freeze!” Xiang Hanshuang shouted.

A massive wave of ice spread out, slowing the meteorite’s velocity in an attempt to halt it within the atmosphere.

However, it lasted for only a second.

*Crack, crack-*

The sound of ice shattering rang out.

Xiang Hanshuang’s face, already pale, turned even whiter.

Qiu Yu’s expression shifted. Stepping forward two paces, she gritted her teeth. “It’s too fast!”

Sheng An’s expression was equally grave.

This operation had been scrutinized countless times. From the lightning strike to atmospheric conversion and the final freezing, every step had been rehearsed repeatedly. But the ice was shattering too early!

Every subsequent step would be affected.

Shattered ice and meteorite fragments rained down like a storm. Wu Buyu roared as he dodged the debris, while the plane swayed violently, doing its best to avoid the impact.

Sheng An did not hesitate. “Li Xin, Yang Chuan!”

The ice had failed to stop the meteorite, but it had slowed it down once more. The moment she called their names, Long Tianyu delivered the two onto Wu Buyu’s back, simultaneously retrieving the faltering Ke Jiaxue and Huang Weiyang.

Countdown: 20 seconds.

Metal and earth were the primary components of the meteorite.

After days of intense study, Li Xin’s efforts would finally bear fruit today!

The slowed meteorite had completely pulverized the ice and pierced through the atmosphere, poised to plummet again. The moment right after breaking the ice was when the meteorite’s speed was at its lowest.

The next instant!

Under the influence of their Supernatural Abilities, the speed dropped further!

Li Xin and Yang Chuan acted in unison, and the massive meteorite began to fracture.

*Thud!*

Their bodies went limp, and they collapsed. Several of the resulting fragments were still massive, especially those on the periphery of their control range, which had only been reduced by about a fifth of their size.

And then-

They continued their plummet toward the ground.

The plane shook; the meteorite was still moving too fast!

Qiu Yu cried out, “It’s not enough! We have to stop it again!”

Puppet threads shot out from her hands.

Sheng An stared fixedly ahead, her voice raspy. “Don’t control them. Empower them.”

Qiu Yu froze.

Almost by instinct, her puppet threads attached to the three of them, draining her Supernatural Ability to bolster theirs.

Puppet manipulation had never been limited to mere control.

She could also overlay the strength of her own ability onto her puppets, allowing them to exert power far beyond their natural limits.

In the next moment, Li Xin roared, “Dammit! I didn’t spend ten days buried in books just to fail at stopping a rock! Yang Chuan, don’t be a coward!!”

He didn’t even have time to stand up before he forced his ability to activate again. Blood began to seep from his eyes, mouth, nose, and ears.

It was pure instinct.

Yang Chuan, who had also collapsed, heard the word “coward” and instinctively triggered his ability. His face was whiter than paper, and he was on the verge of losing consciousness.

Xiang Hanshuang dragged herself up.

If the minors were giving it their all, how could she shrink back?

“Freeze!”

The moment the ice formed, she blacked out completely.

In a flash, Qiu Yu’s ability was drained dry.

But she did not sever the threads. She allowed her face to grow paler and her body to sway unsteadily.

She was shocked and conflicted.

These people were all new recruits…

Yet they were fighting to the death. And Sheng An had believed from the very beginning that they would give everything they had.

There was no need for puppet control; they were willing to die for this.

Was this why Sheng An hadn’t let her take control?

Because Sheng An had trusted everyone all along.

Countdown: 10 seconds.

At that exact moment, without a shred of distraction, Sheng An shouted, “Final step!”
