Chapter 122

Xiang Hanshuang: “?”

Sheng An: “Li Wanyun, a basin.”

Almost instinctively, Li Wanyun pulled a large basin out of her Space Ability.

Sheng An gave a gentle smile. “It’s too hot. Hanshuang, put some ice in there to cool things down.”

At those words, the members of Group B’s eyes lit up. They all turned to look at her with expectant gazes.

Zhang Kun even pulled out an even larger basin.

Everyone looked at her eagerly.

Xiang Hanshuang: “??”

In that moment, her face turned green.

White mist rose from her body as a chill radiated outward. Wisps of cold air spread, and the once sweltering interior of the vehicle instantly cooled down.

Sheng An leaned back comfortably beside her, the corners of her mouth curling up in satisfaction. “The Ice Element Ability really is practical.”

She was a mobile air conditioner!

Xiang Hanshuang: “…”

Her expression shifted through several shades, turning from red to white as her anger flared.

-Her Supernatural Ability was strong and suitable for missions where it could be used to its maximum potential?

This was just bringing her along to be an air conditioner!

-Her Supernatural Ability was very important to them?

With the temperatures outside rising constantly, how could an air conditioner not be important?!

Once she realized the hidden meaning behind Sheng An’s earlier words, Xiang Hanshuang’s expression darkened further. More cold air billowed from her body. Not just Sheng An beside her, but even the Group B members in the front and back felt the refreshing chill.

“Whoa, Sister Sheng, you’re so smart!”

“Man, this Ice Element Ability is seriously useful. Our group definitely needs to get an Ice Ability User.”

“It’s a pity it’s so hard to find someone as powerful as Sister Xiang.”

“So cool and refreshing…”

Xiang Hanshuang’s face turned even greener as she listened to them.

Almost instinctively, frost gathered at her fingertips. It looked as though ice spikes were about to fly out at any second.

In an instant, countless pairs of eyes fixed on her.

Beside her sat Sheng An, as steady as a mountain.

On her other side was the Water Ability User, Ke Jiaxue, with shimmering droplets of water on her fingertips.

In front of her, Li Wanyun, Long Tianyu, and Li Xin turned back to look at her expressionlessly.

Behind her were Liu Yue, Ji Yani, Zhang Kun, Zhuang Fan, and Wu Buyu, their presence heavy with pressure.

-Two fists were no match for twenty.

It was better to follow her heart and back down.

Xiang Hanshuang reached out her frost-covered hand with a blank face. A moment later, several chunks of ice appeared in the basins held by Li Wanyun and Zhang Kun.

Li Wanyun looked at them with a face full of disdain. “This is it? It’s way too little.”

Xiang Hanshuang snapped, “My Supernatural Ability hasn’t recovered yet!!” It was already good enough that she could produce ice at all, and yet they had the nerve to complain?

Ke Jiaxue shook her head and filled the two basins with water.

Xiang Hanshuang: “…”

Expressionless, she froze the two basins of water into solid blocks of ice.

-If she ever fell for Sheng An’s smooth talk and went on a mission with Group B again, she was a pig!!

*Boom-*

A small meteorite landed within the boundaries of Jing City. It didn’t hit a shelter directly, but the massive tremors still caused a partial collapse in the nearest one.

The “smallness” of the meteorite was only relative to the others.

In reality, the crisis it caused upon impact was still incredibly troublesome.

Aside from the Core Shelter and the Jing City Shelter-which held the largest number of people-there were countless other shelters throughout Jing City housing the citizens of the city and the surrounding areas who had come for refuge.

Not every shelter was lucky.

Even with the most meticulous site selection, accidents still happened as expected.

This partially collapsed shelter was in the southern part of Jing City. The area where the people were staying was still sturdy; the collapse had occurred at the rear of the shelter, in the storage area.

Normally, this wouldn’t have put the shelter in immediate danger, but unfortunately, a fire had started.

Flames crackled and popped as thick smoke instantly flooded the shelter. Combined with the dust and haze drifting in from the chaos outside, their hiding place immediately became unsafe.

“Cough, cough-”

“What’s happening?”

“There’s a fire! Put it out, quick!”

“Waaaah, Mommy, I’m scared!”

A faint panic began to spread through the shelter.

But soon, someone shouted, “Don’t try to fight the fire! Remember what we practiced-head for the Safe Passage! Everyone, grab your things and evacuate through the Safe Passage! Don’t push!”
At the sound of the shout, the safety instructions from the previous night immediately flooded back, clearing the fog of panic.

Everyone began to retreat in an orderly fashion.

One man trailed at the very back, clutching his wife and daughter. His face was a mask of anxiety as he hurried to keep up with the main group, his grip tight, afraid to let go for even a second.

In moments like this, the greatest fear was a stampede triggered by desperation.

Fortunately, there were people stationed along the path to maintain order.

As they were evacuating, a scream suddenly erupted from the front. A moment later, blood sprayed from one of the order-keepers.

“Ah-!”

“It’s an Aberrant!”

In the midst of the chaos, an Aberrant had struck.

And it wasn’t just one!

The man’s heart tightened as he pulled his wife and daughter behind him. The people ahead began to surge backward in a frantic rush, leading to shoving and constant screams of terror.

The fire behind them suddenly flared up, sweeping toward them with savage intensity.

Then, just a few meters ahead, flames materialized out of thin air, burning those nearby.

“Aaaaah!”

Amidst the screaming, the man’s eyes met those of the Aberrant who held a ball of fire in his hand.

It was a very ordinary-looking middle-aged man.

When they had entered the shelter yesterday, they had even exchanged greetings. But now, the man was attacking those around him, and he was capable of conjuring fire.

-A Superpower Aberrant.

As the thought flashed through his mind, he saw another Aberrant, even closer, pouncing toward them.

This one didn’t seem to have a Supernatural Ability, but he possessed incredible speed and strength. Having tasted blood, his movements became even more agile.

A soldier fired his weapon but missed.

The Superpower Aberrant immediately hurled fire at the soldier. In the chaos, the soldier didn’t dare spray bullets wildly; he had to dodge the Aberrant’s attacks while trying to protect the civilians.

The man trembled with terror.

His instinct was to run, but the path ahead was blocked. He tried to lead his wife and daughter back, but the Fire-type Aberrant manipulated the flames behind them to grow even larger, swirling toward them as if to swallow everything whole.

In despair, the man pulled his wife and daughter into a tight embrace, his eyes wide with horror.

However-

The Aberrant pouncing toward them suddenly froze, its eyes bulging.

The Superpower Aberrant also stopped conjuring fire, standing rooted to the spot in a daze.

A moment later, both collapsed simultaneously.

Their throats looked as if they had been sliced open by something. They twitched on the ground and stopped breathing in the blink of an eye.

Newly awakened Superpower Users were weak, and newly appeared Aberrants were not particularly strong either.

A man stood beside the fallen Superpower Aberrant. He was pale and held a blade dripping with blood.

Clearly, he was the one who had just killed the Aberrants.

He curled his lip into a smirk. “Li Wanyun, you weren’t as fast as me.”

He turned his gaze toward the raging fire.

The man was stunned, suddenly realizing that the fire hadn’t engulfed him and the temperature behind him had dropped.

He whipped his head around.

At the site of the collapse, the fire was being manipulated-shrinking, concentrating, and compressing. At the same time, a stream of water was dousing the flames.

A female voice rang out: “Long Tianyu, I’m attacking from a distance. Unlike you, who has to Flash in. Look at how pale your face is.”

Another voice chimed in: “Ke Jiaxue, isn’t that water stream a bit too small?”

“If you’re so capable, then put the fire out yourself! It’s not like anyone’s Supernatural Ability has fully recovered yet. So annoying.”

At that moment, a distinct, calm female voice said, “Everyone, move aside.”

The next second-

A massive cloud of white mist sprayed out, surging toward the concentrated, compressed fire.

Quickly, the fire was extinguished.

Through the lingering haze of smoke, the man saw a group of people in combat uniforms standing on a slope ahead. The woman leading them had a face familiar from television; she was currently hoisting a massive nozzle.

Clearly, she was the one who had said “move aside.”

The faces of the people behind her were also familiar. He had seen them during the National Announcement Briefing, and again when communications were restored.

Sheng An jumped down from the ledge into the underground passage, pointing the nozzle at the remaining embers.

Sheng An said nonchalantly, “We have equipment for firefighting, don’t we? I never counted on you guys in the first place.”

Ke Jiaxue and Liu Yue: “…”

That stung.

The man was filled with astonishment. Not just him-everyone else stared at this group of people who had seemingly descended from the heavens, their eyes wide with wonder.

-The Apocalypse Special Affairs Department had arrived!
