Chapter 123

The government had always known that in times of disaster, people needed spiritual support just as much as material aid.

Just as they had named Qi Lingwu’s Supernatural Ability the “King’s Anchor,” a chaotic world needed heroes and a sense of cohesion.

From the very beginning, the government had established the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department as an independent entity. Even after confirming that those who awakened their abilities early were stronger, they never changed the department’s positioning.

They were the heroes of a chaotic era, the spiritual pillars of humanity.

Possessing superpowers made them like Gods. Seeing them made people feel as though the disaster was not insurmountable.

There were Aberrants that could launch sudden attacks, but there were also Superpower Users who could take on a hundred foes alone.

It was not a hopeless situation.

These people were “Gods” capable of intercepting massive meteorites. Besides them, there were more Superpower Users currently awakening, all of whom would eventually join their ranks.

In an instant, the faces of the young people flushed with excitement and admiration, their hearts filled with a faint sense of anticipation.

A man tightly gripped the hands of his wife and daughter, his eyes filled with both gratitude and relief.

The Apocalypse Special Affairs Department could save them.

The Apocalypse Special Affairs Department-the place where heroes dwelt.

Being watched by so many fervent gazes made Wu Buyu, Ji Yani, and Zhuang Fan feel a bit awkward. However, Long Tianyu and his companions immediately lifted their chins and straightened their backs.

Li Xin was even more unable to contain his excitement.

This was the world-saving he had always dreamed of!

He’d finally made it; he was actually saving the world!

Only Sheng An remained calm under the collective gaze of the crowd.

She nodded slightly and gave cool-headed instructions to the soldiers approaching her. “Treat the wounded immediately and maintain order. There is no need to evacuate for now; we will repair the shelter.”

The soldiers saluted enthusiastically. “Yes, ma’am!”

Li Xin was bewildered. “How are we supposed to repair the shelter?”

Ten minutes later.

The men of the shelter were carrying steel plates, shouting rhythmic cadences as they aligned them with the massive gap torn open by the meteorite.

Li Xin stood below, activating the meager Supernatural Ability he had just managed to recover to fuse the steel plates over the gap, welding them firmly in place.

Li Xin’s face was expressionless.

This wasn’t saving the world; this was being a damn welder!

By the time the repairs were finished, the last of his Supernatural Ability was exhausted.

Drenched in sweat, Li Xin bared his teeth in annoyance. “Hey, aren’t you going to let me rest?”

Sheng An patted his shoulder. “Rest now. We have to go to the other shelters later.”

Li Xin: “…”

Wu Buyu: “Hahaha!”

Sheng An looked at Wu Buyu. “Off you go. Use your Mind Reading to do a sweep and see if any other Aberrants are hiding.”

Wu Buyu: “…………”

Li Xin: “Hahahahahaha!”

Xiang Hanshuang trailed behind them, her brow furrowed slightly in discomfort.

The atmosphere when Group B executed a mission…

It was truly different.

It was far too rowdy.

So rowdy that it made her feel out of place.

Just as she thought this, Sheng An walked over to her side, calmly enjoying the cool air radiating from her.

Ke Jiaxue and Li Wanyun went a step further, leaning directly against her. Their warm bodies pressed against her, causing her brow to furrow even tighter.

Li Wanyun patted her shoulder. “This space is too big, there’s not enough chill. Hurry up and release more.”

Xiang Hanshuang’s fists clenched. For the first time, this composed lawyer snapped-

“I’m from Group A, dammit!!”

After repairing the breach in the shelter and screening for Aberrants, they actually found three hidden creatures.

They only left the shelter after clearing out the threat.

Sheng An led the team to the meteorite’s impact site. The fire had been extinguished, but the ground was blackened, and many buildings had collapsed.

They had to climb over the ruins of the buildings to see the meteorite.

The meteorite had been wreathed in flames when it descended, but after landing and cooling down, it appeared dark and black. It was wedged deep into the earth, and with it as the epicenter, the surrounding area had been completely destroyed. Even the soil had turned to charred earth.

Stepping onto a collapsed concrete slab, Wu Buyu’s expression turned solemn. “So this is the Meteorite Catastrophe. It’s terrifying.”

He looked up at the blinding sky, knowing that the disaster brought by the meteorites was far from over.
The scorched earth was no longer viable for planting. With the ozone layer severely damaged, the toxic sunlight alone was enough to render the planet barren.

At this moment, they were not only wearing combat suits but also helmets.

Every so often, they had to raise a hand to wipe the dust from their visors; otherwise, they couldn’t see anything through the thick haze of smoke and ash.

Li Wanyun turned to look at Sheng An. “Should I go ahead and collect the meteorite?”

Sheng An, however, remained focused on the massive crater. The pitch-black meteorite within blended into the surrounding charred earth. Her brow furrowed slightly.

Suddenly, Sheng An jumped down into the pit.

She moved through the crevices, drawing closer to the meteorite.

The others were taken aback but immediately followed her.

“Did you find something?” Long Tianyu asked curiously.

Following closely behind Sheng An, Li Wanyun suddenly paused as if sensing something. Her eyes widened in surprise. “My Supernatural Ability recovery seems to be speeding up!”

The others were shocked.

Wu Buyu had been using Mind Reading for an extended period, and his Supernatural Ability reserves were currently drained, leaving him unable to manifest much of anything.

But inexplicably, he felt his power returning in thin threads.

It was twice as fast as his natural recovery rate!

Realizing what was happening, Long Tianyu raised his voice. “There’s a Meteorite Fragment!”

“Meteorite Fragment” didn’t just refer to a piece of the meteorite itself; it referred to a specific type of shard embedded within it. These shards were unique-not only could they enhance one’s strength, but they also increased the probability of awakening a Supernatural Ability.

Correspondingly, they also increased the likelihood of Aberrants appearing.

The Reborn Persons had long since shared this information. In Li Wanyun and the others’ previous lives, it had been commonplace for Superpower Users to risk their lives fighting over these fragments.

After the meteorites fell, the state had mandated an orderly collection of them in addition to managing the immediate crisis.

The military units operating outside were tasked with clearing roads and centralizing the meteorites, waiting for Li Wanyun or Zhang Kun to collect and store them in a designated location.

This was precisely why they were here.

Many meteorites didn’t contain fragments, so they hadn’t expected to find one in this particular stone.

After jumping into the crater, Sheng An tapped on the meteorite.

She looked up. “Li Xin, can you break it open?”

“I’ll try.” Li Xin took a deep breath, utilizing the Supernatural Ability he had just managed to accumulate to force the meteorite to crack.

Amidst a cloud of dust, the meteorite split open.

Sensing something, Sheng An reached out and pried a small shard from one of the cracks.

It was truly tiny, only about the size of a fingernail. One could easily overlook it if they weren’t paying attention.

Sheng An was able to spot it because its color was completely different from the meteorite. While the meteorite was dark, this piece was a striking, eye-catching silver-white.

She held the fragment up. Under the sun, it shimmered with a faint, iridescent glow. It was beautiful.

Wu Buyu crouched down beside her. “So this is a Meteorite Fragment? It’s gorgeous.”

Li Xin was also curious, tilting his head to examine it. He marveled, “Doesn’t it look like a magic stone from an anime? Something that boosts the owner’s power and turns them into a super warrior.”

Having seen them in his past life, Long Tianyu wasn’t surprised. “Beautiful? This thing is a true disaster. Not only does it make Superpower Users want to fight over it, but it also attracts Aberrants and creates even more of them. However… it really does provide Enhancement to the owner and those around them.”

Li Wanyun added, “This life is different from the last. In the previous life, there was no order; everyone fought for themselves. Superpower Users needed raw power to survive, so they fought for these. This time, the state will step in.”

Wu Buyu nodded in agreement. “Exactly. This thing seems to hold hidden dangers. It might not be a good thing for a private individual to own it. It’s best to hand it over to the state and let the people at the Research Institute figure it out.”

Li Wanyun and Long Tianyu both turned to look at him with strange expressions.

“What?” Wu Buyu asked, looking bewildered.

Long Tianyu said expressionlessly, “In the last life, you were the one who loved snatching these things the most.”

Li Wanyun gave him a death stare. “My very first fragment was stolen by you.”

Wu Buyu: “…”

Sheng An suddenly looked at Wu Buyu and arched an eyebrow.

This guy’s track record in his previous life… it really made it seem like he had the state backing him even then.
