Chapter 124

Xiang Hanshuang noticed it as well.

Group A was already privy to Group B’s information. The massive stir Wu Buyu had caused in his previous life had been thoroughly detailed through the memories of Li Wanyun, Long Tianyu, and Yang Chuan.

Xiang Hanshuang crouched down beside them. “If Wu Buyu had the state backing him in his past life, then the country must have been collecting these things back then, right?”

She crouched naturally, and her entry into the discussion was just as seamless.

Although the atmosphere in Group B was a bit too rowdy, it was precisely this lively energy that prevented her from feeling like an outsider. She blended in smoothly, speaking her mind whenever a thought occurred to her.

It didn’t matter if she was wrong.

After all, the members of this team had uttered countless foolish things already.

There was no need to maintain any sense of poise or elegance anymore. From the moment she had first started swearing, those pretenses could be considered non-existent.

Operating with Group B was an indescribable experience-

It was like visiting a friend’s house, only to find that this “home” was exactly like her own messy “doghouse.”

There was no need for formalities. It felt like being in her own home; she could sit or lie down however she pleased, exposing her true nature without the need for polite pleasantries or restraint.

Sheng An replied, “It’s highly likely.”

She turned to ask the two Reborn Persons, “When did the collection start?”

Li Wanyun shook her head. “I didn’t awaken right at the start. My involvement was very low in the year before the Apocalypse, and I never even saw a Meteorite Fragment.”

Long Tianyu thought for a moment before also shaking his head. “It seems like it was around the second year of the Apocalypse. Suddenly, everyone was fighting over Meteorite Fragments. Superpower Users learned what the fragments could do, and Wu Buyu probably found out around the same time.”

Wu Buyu had a complicated expression on his face.

Listening to others analyze a version of himself that he knew nothing about was truly a strange sensation.

After a moment’s thought, he said, “If I were to side with the state in my past life, I most likely would have sided with Sister Sheng and Qi Dui.”

Everyone turned to look at him in unison.

Xiang Hanshuang frowned. “Why? Team Leader Qiu wouldn’t do?”

Wu Buyu replied, “I don’t like being controlled. Being teammates with Sister Sheng and Qi Dui is very comfortable. Besides, my Mind Reading is an ability I’ve had since I was a child, and its level seems exceptionally high. So far, Sister Sheng and Qi Dui are the only ones whose inner voices I can’t hear.”

Xiang Hanshuang was surprised. “You can’t hear Qi Lingwu’s inner thoughts either?”

They were all aware that Sheng An’s thoughts were silent to him.

But the fact that he couldn’t hear Qi Lingwu’s thoughts was new information.

Wu Buyu explained, “I could still hear them when Qi Dui first awakened, but his thoughts were very simple. I didn’t make a conscious effort to listen normally, and I only recently discovered that I can’t hear him at all anymore. It’s likely related to his strength.”

In an instant, everyone’s emotions became complicated.

They knew Qi Lingwu’s Supernatural Ability was strong, but they hadn’t expected it to be this powerful.

Long Tianyu said sourly, “That might not be it. Sheng An’s Supernatural Ability hasn’t even manifested yet, and you can’t hear her either, can you? I think there’s just something wrong with your ability.”

Wu Buyu remained expressionless. “Your heart is bubbling over with bitterness. You’re even thinking about how you want to swap abilities with Qi Lingwu. You’re wondering why he got such a badass ability when you’re the reborn Chosen One who should be the protagonist. You really are incredibly salty.”

Long Tianyu: “…”

Sheng An didn’t say anything more and stood up.

“Let’s finish the shelter inspection first. We’ll send the meteorite and the fragments to the Research Institute tonight. Those researchers should be able to find something new.”

The Academy of Sciences placed great importance on the meteorite and had long ago designated a large area for its storage and study.

Furthermore, professional matters were best left to professionals; Sheng An only needed to know the results.

The others nodded and continued with their mission.

Along the way, Long Tianyu and Wu Buyu continued to find each other eyesores, bickering and undermining one another. Li Xin, never one to pass up a chance to watch the chaos, chimed in from time to time, only to be shut down by the two of them-yet he remained undeterred, failing and trying again and again.
Xiang Hanshuang asked, “Is the atmosphere in your group always like this?”

She felt a bit dazed.

Li Wanyun rested her arm on Xiang Hanshuang’s shoulder to enjoy the cool air and replied immediately, “Yeah, our group gets along great. If you want to transfer, you can apply.”

Xiang Hanshuang: “…Thanks, but that’s really not necessary.”

It would be too ironic if she regretted it now, considering she had initially rejected Sheng An because the latter lacked a Supernatural Ability.

At least, that was what Xiang Hanshuang refused to admit.

Patrols continued until the next morning.

Not just the members of Group B, but even Sheng An was exhausted to the point of weakness. There were many shelters in Jing City, and the first batch of awakened Supernatural Abilities was quite large in number.

The Core Shelter and the Jing City Shelter-which housed the largest population-were controlled by those with Psychic Ability, but the other shelters were not. There had been many incidents, and they frequently had to intervene.

Having been busy until now, they had finally finished a preliminary sweep.

Gu Qiansheng and Ruan Zifeng also returned with them.

Hao Jingye came to meet them and, seeing their state, hurriedly said:

“The Meteor Shower is about to end. Rest in the vacant rooms first. Once the Meteor Shower is over, you can go back to the villa for a good sleep. I’ve already prepared food for you.”

Long Tianyu and the others nodded feebly.

When they had first been reborn, they were obsessed with hoarding supplies, fearing there would be no food in the Apocalypse.

Now, things were different. They lacked for nothing in terms of food or clothing; they had an entire nation as their backbone, and the best resources were being poured into them without hesitation.

But-

They were so tired.

Li Wanyun felt like she could fall asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.

Sheng An said, “Hand over the meteorites and fragments to the Research Institute first.”

Speaking of this, Hao Jingye turned serious:

“The meteorites can be handed over. As for the fragments, there were already some among the meteorites you intercepted earlier. The Research Institute isn’t lacking research materials. The higher-ups want you to keep this Meteorite Fragment with you, Sister Sheng.”

Sheng An was startled.

However, she quickly realized the key reason.

The people in the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department were all Superpower Users who had awakened early. In their past lives, they had all possessed fragments and hadn’t turned into Aberrants. Therefore, keeping a fragment nearby could enhance their strength without much concern for the risks.

“The fragment might help you manifest your Supernatural Ability as soon as possible, Sister Sheng.”

Hao Jingye sighed. “However, the Research Institute still can’t determine the pros and cons of the Meteorite Fragment, nor are they sure if there are any unknown drawbacks. So, they suggest you only keep this one piece with you for now. After we gather more information, we’ll make further arrangements.”

Sheng An didn’t object and nodded in acceptance.

The others naturally had nothing to say. The Spark was the nation’s hope; the higher-ups and the Research Institute only wanted what was best for them. Everything was being arranged for optimal results.

After handing over the meteorites, the group sat down to eat.

The food prepared for them was similar to what they had before the Apocalypse, showing how well the country had prepared.

At that moment, Old Man Qin emerged from some corner holding Qin Xuan to join them, burying his head in his food and eating ravenously.

Long Tianyu was speechless. “You’re nowhere to be found when there’s work to do, but you pop up the moment it’s time to eat.”

Old Man Qin was thick-skinned and chuckled. “Hehe, it’s not like we could help with anything. If we went, we’d just be an old man and a little kid getting in everyone’s way. Hahaha.”

Long Tianyu didn’t bother arguing with him. He rolled his eyes and went back to his meal.

With rice grains still stuck to his face, Qin Xuan didn’t feel embarrassed at all, just like Old Man Qin. He focused solely on eating, using his small spoon with great proficiency.

“Water-” Qin Xuan looked up.

Li Xin, who had looked after him before, habitually raised his hand and handed him a water cup.

Just as Qin Xuan was about to take it, he suddenly paused.

Li Xin grew impatient. “Hurry up and drink.”

Qin Xuan said, “You’re crying.”

Li Xin looked up blankly. “Huh? I’m not crying.”
