Chapter 2

At the dining table.

I looked at Qi Lie. The young man was staring back at me.

He was still wearing his academy uniform, the white shirt accentuating his lean waist. Beneath a high-bridged nose, his thin lips were pressed firmly together. Strands of silver hair fell over his brow, framing eyes that held a weary, lazy look.

He was exactly what I expected: a wild, untamable Wolf-type youth.

“Ruan Li.”

He addressed me by name, his tone blunt and devoid of courtesy.

“Since you’ve come here today, I’ll make things clear.”

Qi Lie looked down at me with a cold, haughty gaze.

“We can start discussing when to call off the engagement.”

I looked up. The earring in Qi Lie’s left ear glinted with a cold luster under the crystal chandelier.

“But I don’t want to,”

I said earnestly. “I don’t want to break our engagement.”

“I want to marry you.”

Qi Lie asked impatiently, “Why?”

“The Ruan Family isn’t so poor that they’d covet the bride price offered by the Qi Family.”

“That’s true.” I nodded, looking at him as I spoke softly. “So, don’t you understand yet?”

“It’s not the Qi Family’s wealth I’m after.”

I smiled brightly. “I simply have my eyes on you. You’re the only one I want to marry.”

Qi Lie froze.

A moment later, his face flushed red with a mix of embarrassment and anger. “Ruan Li!”

He practically ground his teeth. “This is only the first time we’ve met!”

I quickly covered the ears of the two wolf cubs beside me and complained, “You’re being too loud. You’re scaring them.”

Qi Lie: “…”

He took a deep breath and lowered his voice. “I said, we just met for the first time!”

“Whatever methods you use to flirt with other males, don’t use them on me!”

There was a hint of suppressed fury in those last few words, as if I were some predator harrassing him in front of minors.

I quickly tried to soothe him. “I haven’t. I’ve never said these things to anyone else.”

“But Hubby, you’re different from them.”

Qi Lie’s face was beyond just ‘flushed’ now.

“Who are you calling ‘hubby’?!”

He stood up abruptly, shot me an angry glare, and turned to head toward the bedroom.

Seeing Qi Lie’s reaction, the two wolf cubs hurried over to explain.

“Sister-in-law, Big Brother must be really, really tired from training all day.”

“Please don’t be mad at him.”

I ruffled their heads. “I’m not mad.”

“But I need you two to do your sister-in-law a favor first.”

Training a puppy… this is how the early stages go.

“What does your brother’s class schedule look like for tomorrow?”

The two little ones eagerly logged into the home network with their IDs and pulled up Qi Lie’s course schedule.

And so, a few days later, without giving Qi Lie any warning, I headed to his academy.
