I wandered along the corridor until it split into three branches. I picked one at random and kept walking.

The last house I had visited with a layout this complicated had been a friend’s castle overseas in my old world. His place had been far more terrifying than this one—gloomier, more oppressive, with a human skull every five paces and a complete skeleton every ten. There were animal bones too.

Silver-white hair shone softly in the candlelight like liquid moonlight. The beautiful man lounged there with his arms folded and one leg slightly bent, looking lazy and at ease—as though he had been waiting a long time for his prey to fall into the trap.

Amusement filled his purple-and-gold eyes. His voice was deep and sumptuous, yet inexplicably chilling.
