Summary
After becoming a stepmother, I deliberately set out to ruin Zhou Zi’an. When the boys of the clan were studying themselves to the bone, I took Zhou Zi’an out sightseeing and on spring outings. Zhou Yu had a bad temper, and whenever he scolded Zhou Zi’an, I was always the first to step in front of him. I praised him at every turn, spoiled him rotten, and made sure his food, clothes, daily comforts, and travel were all better than even my own children’s. All because I wanted to raise Zhou Zi’an into a useless, ignorant dandy. Ten years later. I watched as Zhou Zi’an placed first in the imperial examinations, rose swiftly through the ranks, looked after his younger siblings, and called me “Mother” with every other breath. I was stunned. “How did such a perfectly good child turn out impossible to ruin?” Zhou Zi’an said, “An imperial title? Mother, you want to become a titled lady? Then I’ll just have to work even harder!”
