I died and woke up as Xu Susu, the villainous supporting character in an angst novel.

Her entire storyline was to spend a night with the male lead, Shen Huaiqing, then be despised for the rest of her life.

Someone had drugged him with an aphrodisiac. She had simply been knocked unconscious and thrown in to frame him.

That was what came of being a Buddhist prodigy who seemed free of worldly desires—and an imperial prince besides.

The person laying the trap didn’t believe he had no interest in the throne.

Of course, the male lead wasn’t entirely uninterested. His mind was simply occupied elsewhere.

A blood moon had hung overhead on the day Shen Huaiqing was born, an extremely ill omen. He was supposed to have been drowned. His mother had begged for his life, each plea wrung from her in anguish.

He was sent to Puning Temple to temper the violence in his fate.

Once he was an adult, he appeared before the emperor during a visit to the temple to pray for blessings. By then, he was already renowned as a Buddhist prodigy.

His pale, moon-white robes made him look especially holy. Every word and gesture radiated compassion.

Overcome with guilt, the emperor brought him back to the palace.

He seemed entirely without ambition for the throne, intent only on burning incense and chanting the Buddha’s name.

The eldest prince didn’t believe a word of it.

This trap served three purposes.

First, to ruin his reputation and cost him the emperor’s favor, putting the throne forever beyond his reach.

Second, to saddle him with a girl from an insignificant family. With no powerful in-laws to help him, he’d be as good as missing an arm.

Third… the eldest prince wanted the heroine. He had long resented this Buddhist prince’s sanctimonious act and the way he kept drawing her in. He might as well ruin their relationship too.

The original Xu Susu was cannon fodder, an outsider who had stumbled into everyone else’s entanglements.

Afterward, the male lead hated her for taking his chastity.

The heroine hated her for taking the man she loved.

Xu Susu insisted she was innocent, just a pawn in someone else’s scheme.

No one believed her.

Forced into marriage with the male lead, she tried to repair their relationship, only to be humiliated again and again.

Whenever she targeted the heroine, her schemes were exposed, and everyone condemned her.

In the end, despised by all, she died of misery.

…My only response to that plot was a sarcastic: Wow. Just wow.

And now I was that unlucky Xu Susu.

Right now, the male lead and I were on the same bed.

He wore plain, moon-white monk’s robes. His features were impeccably formed, with a red mark on his forehead. He looked like a jade bodhisattva, kind and approachable, wrapped in an aura of divinity.

The jade bodhisattva was chanting with his eyes closed.

If his fingers hadn’t been moving faster and faster over his prayer beads, his face and ears burning red, I might have believed he was fine.

Shen Huaiqing had a bodhisattva’s face and a demon’s heart.

He really was a terrible ill omen.

Born without empathy, he loved only the sight of blood flowing from a dying body. He was a sociopath through and through.

If the abbot hadn’t noticed something was wrong and guided him, he would never have acquired that outward image or prestige.

Unfortunately, deep down he was still a demon who could not be taught, forever wanting to satisfy himself with warm blood.

I pulled out my hairpin and eyed the artery in his neck.

Why not kill him while he was vulnerable?

But… he was an imperial prince. If I killed him, I wouldn’t escape the consequences.

I could have called for help, except whoever had arranged this had been very thorough. The doors and windows were locked. This was a secluded spot with not a soul around—not even a dog.

They had also made sure of success with a lethal dose of aphrodisiac and plenty of time. They wouldn’t stroll in with witnesses until we’d had time to do it several times over.

The male lead was visibly losing his senses. His fingers gradually stopped moving over the beads. He panted and pulled open his robe.

What a fucking menace.

“Fourth Prince! Are you still conscious?”

My shout brought him back a little.

Struggling to control himself, he drew his clothes closed again.

That alone hardly made me safe. What if he forced himself on me in a moment?

“Fourth Prince, why don’t you tie yourself up? I’m really scared.”

With trembling hands, he began pulling at his sash.

As he did, his gaze on me grew decidedly less pure.

I slapped him twice.

“Awake now? Hurry, while you still have your senses!”

I quickly tied him up, secured the knot, and retreated to the foot of the bed to watch in peace.

Before long, the drug took hold.

He struggled, roared, and thrashed without stopping.

I watched calmly.

Though… could human skin really turn that red?

Oh. I’d forgotten.

It was a lethal dose. If he didn’t get a release, he really would die.

Xu Susu came from a minor household. Her father was only a fourth-rank official. If I stood by and let him die, my life would be over too.

…

You really were a menace!

With no choice, I went over to save him.

He struggled beneath my hand. There was none of his usual compassion in his gaze, only savage, murderous intent.

If his hands hadn’t been bound to the bedpost, he would have lunged at me and strangled me already.

He had no interest in sex. He found it filthy and disgusting. When he saw that I meant to touch him, he fought with all his strength.

I wasn’t about to indulge him.

I slapped him twice more.

“Wake up! If you don’t get this out of your system, you’ll die. If that’s what you want, I’ll leave.”

His eyes reddened from the slaps, filling with involuntary tears. He looked up at me, panting.

“Don’t go…”

I curled my lips into a smile and decided to make things difficult.

I’d wanted to do a good deed before. Now I didn’t.

“Beg me, and I’ll help.”

Shen Huaiqing was proud to his very bones. He regarded everyone with the same indifference.

I didn’t believe he could bring himself to beg.

“Please. Help me.”

…

Fine.

I could only get to work.

Hard work.

After I finally got him off, he lay dazed for a little while.

Then he looked at me pleadingly again.

“Please. One more time. Just one last time…”

If he hadn’t been crying and begging, I wouldn’t have done it.

My hand ached…

But the male lead had a good face and a good voice.

Very good.

With that desperate lust and the slight glimpse of the V of his hips, he really was tempting.

And his breathless sounds were lovely.

Lovely in a thoroughly indecent way.

Seeing the holy Buddhist prince like this hit my kink hard. Someone so cold and jade-pure, mine to defile as I pleased—it really did make me want to ruin him.

Ah well.

A little indulgence couldn’t hurt.
