Chapter 5

The moment he knocked the man out, Qin Xian felt a twinge of regret. He should have at least made Xun Dawei follow him downstairs first.

Now, to keep the man from being killed by an Abnormality after losing the ability to fight back, Qin Xian had to throw him outside the hospital.

With no other choice, he found a length of rope and stuffed it into his pocket. Then, under the silent gaze of the Black Membrane Abnormality entities, he dismantled the railing from the hospital bed.

After that, Qin Xian yanked the man off the bed like he was dragging a torn sack, then hauled him out of the ward under the watchful eyes of the Black Membrane Abnormality entities.

Fortunately, the elevator was right beside the ward. Once he reached the first floor, Qin Xian tied the man up securely to a pillar at the hospital entrance, deliberately choosing an angle where he would not be easily noticed.

That way, when the Domain disappeared later, the man would not suddenly show up and scare people half to death.

They were still inside the Abnormality’s Domain. Outside the inpatient building’s main entrance, there was only pitch-black darkness. Not a single living person could be seen.

It looked terrifying, but this area carried no sense of danger.

The most dangerous place should be where the owner of this Domain was located. Roughly the fourth floor, judging by the feel of it.

Qin Xian carefully made his way up the stairs. On the third floor, following the sound of crying, he found a haggard-looking woman.

She looked to be in her early thirties, curled up behind the fire door and trembling. After Qin Xian carefully confirmed that she was alive, he greeted her. “Hello.”

The woman jumped in fright. She raised her head and nervously wiped away her tears to see what was happening.

A young man had appeared at the end of the stairwell and was slowly walking toward her. He was very good-looking, but he seemed somewhat cold. Right now, he was holding a large bone in his hand.

A bone?

Confused, the woman said, “Y-you… hello. Are you human?”

“I am,” Qin Xian said. “What’s your name? What happened to you?”

The woman answered quietly, “My name is An Baixin. I don’t know what happened to me… Is it a ghost? Are there really ghosts in this world?”

“What kind of ghost?”

“My father-in-law turned into a monster, and then, then my husband… and his younger brother’s family all started growing black things. The people in the ward next door too! It was terrifying. What is going on? Are there really ghosts in this world?” An Baixin hugged herself in panic, trembling even harder.

She was wearing a very cheap T-shirt and jeans. Her long hair had been pinned up behind her head, but most of it had come loose, hanging messily beside her pale, somewhat malnourished cheeks.

An Baixin continued haltingly, “I wanted to run, but I couldn’t get out. Are you here to save me? Please, save me!”

Qin Xian replied, “Then we need to go take a look at your family first.”

“No, no, no!” An Baixin shook her head. “I don’t want to go back. I’ll die!”

“Then you’ll stay here by yourself? But I should tell you, the reason nothing has come out to kill you yet is because they haven’t fully developed. Give it a while and things will be different. If you keep staying here alone, there’s a high chance something will happen to you.” After Qin Xian finished speaking, he opened the fire door and slowly walked inside, showing no sign of coddling her.

A moment later, staggering footsteps followed him.

An Baixin’s legs were weak, but she still decided to trust the young man in front of her.

Very soon, however, she began to regret that decision a little.

No sooner had they returned from the stairwell to the ward corridor than the two of them ran head-on into a black monster wearing a hospital gown.

Black flesh and tissue were growing and piling over its body, but from the shape of it, it still retained a humanoid outline.

Its clothing made one terrifying possibility hard not to imagine.

This thing had probably been human.

An Baixin screamed and instinctively covered her head.

Qin Xian pushed her aside at once and swung the bone horizontally, blocking the monster’s claws.

“Ghhhehhh!” The monster howled, still trying to push past the bone and attack.

Crack!

Qin Xian swiftly moved around behind it and snapped its neck.

An Baixin stared at the corpse on the floor in disbelief. “It, it…”

“Once someone turns into that, they’re already dead,” Qin Xian said. Then he stepped around the body and continued forward.

An Baixin hurried after him, murmuring weakly, “You… you gave him a quick end. That’s… good.”

This Domain did not seem to have dragged in many people. There were only a handful of victims wandering the corridors. There was even one that had not finished developing, only staring blankly at a wall and groaning, “Ehhh, ehhh.”

Qin Xian did not bother with it. After casually clearing out several monsters, he heard the sounds of several people arguing in the distance.

In this gloomy, deathly silent place, people were actually ignoring the danger to argue.

“Um… that sounds like my husband and the others,” An Baixin said quietly.

Qin Xian pushed the door open and walked in.

There was something lying on the hospital bed, and three people standing beside it. But every single one of them had mutated. Black tumors were crawling up their limbs, already covering their necks and growing onto their faces.

As for the one on the bed, it no longer had any human shape at all. It was nothing but a puddle of rotten black flesh.

Yet the three people beside the bed seemed completely blind to these horrifying abnormalities and were still arguing fiercely.

On the right side of the bed stood a middle-aged man, probably An Baixin’s husband.

On the left stood another middle-aged couple, An Baixin’s brother-in-law and his wife.

An Baixin’s husband shouted at the monster on the bed, “Why should I only get half the inheritance? I urgently need money, Dad! Don’t you know that?”

The monster lying on the bed, the one he called “Dad,” did not speak. It only let out a strange laugh.
Her brother-in-law on the other side spoke up: “I’m Dad’s most beloved son! I’ve been better than you since we were kids. Admit it! The money should be mine-not a single cent should go to you!”

His wife chimed in: “Exactly. And you gamble, too. You blew through your wife’s money, and now you’re turning to Dad for money-have you no shame?!”

Qin Xian turned to look at An Baixin.

An Baixin immediately lowered her head. A flicker of anger flashed through her eyes, but she only clenched the hem of her clothes and said nothing.

“Bullshit! I’m talking about the inheritance! How many times did you come by while Dad was sick?! How much money did you contribute? Wasn’t it our side taking care of him the whole time?”

“You, taking care of him? You barely came to the hospital either. It was An Baixin doing all the caregiving, wasn’t it?”

“As a daughter-in-law, she’s supposed to take care of the elders on both sides. I have to work. Besides, my wife helped take care of him too, so doesn’t that count as our side helping?”

As the three of them argued, they began grappling with each other. The black fleshy tumors secreted mucus, nearly wrapping them up completely.

But they didn’t care in the slightest. The only word in their minds was inheritance.

Qin Xian leaned back against the wall, watching the show with great interest.

Too bad there were no sunflower seeds for sale here. Otherwise, he would have cracked a handful while he watched.

Finally, An Baixin’s husband was the first to reach toward the “father” on the bed and roar, “Dad! You can’t be this biased. Tell me your bank card password! And the family collectibles-where did you put them?!”

The moment his hand grabbed the “father’s” neck, the tumors on his hand began merging with the monster on the hospital bed. Within a few breaths, his entire arm had melted into it.

Even then, he didn’t struggle at all. He kept trying to persuade his father to give him the inheritance.

An Baixin’s husband’s mouth, still opening and closing as he muttered about money, was dragged against the side of the “father’s” face. It looked almost like a kiss.

Qin Xian clicked his tongue twice. This scene was truly both bizarre and spectacular.

On the other side of the bed, her brother-in-law and his wife refused to be outdone. They grabbed the “father’s” arm and shouted, “Dad, you love me the most! You must be leaving your things to me, right? Hurry and tell me the password. Don’t give it to my brother-he’ll squander it all!”

“That’s right, Dad! We didn’t come visit much because we were really too busy. And besides, Sister-in-law was taking care of you. She’s so considerate. Even if we came, we wouldn’t have been any help to her!”

The group chattered on and on as they slowly fused together.

Qin Xian lowered his head and glanced at An Baixin, who was biting her lip and hugging herself. Then he casually held something out in front of her.

An Baixin looked down and saw that it was a sharp scalpel. She had no idea when this man had gotten his hands on it.

“F-for me?” she asked in surprise.

Qin Xian stuffed the scalpel directly into her hand and pointed at the “father” on the bed. “That should be the final boss. It won’t be too hard to deal with. I don’t need this knife, but you can keep it for self-defense.”

“Thank you…” An Baixin took the scalpel, then backed away, leaving the space to Qin Xian while she tried her best to shrink into the corner.

But when she retreated, the “father” on the bed, who had not moved all this time, suddenly raised a trembling hand. An old man’s hoarse voice came from its mouth. “An Baixin, An Baixin, my urine bag is full. Hurry over and empty it for me! And my legs need wiping. Come here, quickly!”

An Baixin took two terrified steps back and couldn’t help shouting, “No! I don’t want to take care of you!”

“You’re my family’s daughter-in-law! You have to take care of me!”

“Then why don’t you make your son take care of you?! Why don’t you make your other daughter-in-law take care of you?! You order me around and make things difficult for me in every possible way. Why aren’t you dead yet? Just die already!!” An Baixin clutched her head, and black tumors began sprouting from her fingers.

The monster on the bed was enraged by her words and finally moved. The mouth on its face split open, and a black-red tongue like a coiled spring shot straight toward An Baixin.

With a smack, Qin Xian knocked the tongue to the floor with a bone.

“I can deal with this thing faster, but there is one thing I need to make clear to you. This Domain is deeply connected to you. If you can’t fight back or change your way of thinking, you’ll be haunted by nightmares for the rest of your life. Within a year, you’ll be dead.” Qin Xian swung his arm twice more, knocking back the tongue as it lunged again.

“Change… my way of thinking?” An Baixin repeated the words and looked at Qin Xian in confusion.

Qin Xian met her eyes for a moment, then turned away and ignored her. He had no intention of continuing to act as her life coach.

“An Baixin, An Baixin… I want honey water! An Baixin, why aren’t you here yet? An Baixin!!”

“An Baixin, didn’t you hear Dad?! If you serve him well, the inheritance will be mine. Hurry up and get over there!”

“An Baixin, wipe me down!”

Listening to the monster roaring from the bed, An Baixin finally couldn’t take it anymore. “Go to hell! Let your son serve you! I don’t want to endure this anymore! And I don’t want to keep waiting for you to die just so I can be free. Every last person in this family is a freak! A lunatic! I’m getting a divorce. I’m leaving your family. And of course, before I go, I’ll take everything that belongs to me!”

“You dare!!” the four mouths on the bed shouted at the same time. “What kind of daughter-in-law are you?! If you leave, no one will ever want you!”

“That’s hilarious. I’d rather live with a dog than with trash like you!” An Baixin gripped the scalpel tightly and slashed hard at the tongue winding toward her.

Qin Xian shifted half a step aside and gave her a faintly approving look.

True enough. Living with a dog really would be more comfortable.
