After my capture failed, I was imprisoned.

I had been locked in the bedchamber by Pei Ji for several days. Every day, someone came to change my medicine and bring me food. The treatment was no different from before-except that I couldn’t leave.

Pei Ji hadn’t appeared again since that day. I asked the other demons of the Demon Clan whether they had seen Pei Ji, saying that I wanted to see Pei Ji, but no demon paid me any attention.

I lay on the couch, thinking it over and over, but I still couldn’t understand why that final step before success had turned into total failure.

Clearly, the damn System had told me that a Favorability above 95% counted as Deep Love, and Deep Love would not change easily.

But… I still couldn’t forget how, earlier, the System had seemed to short-circuit in my head, endlessly going “beep beep beep” when the Favorability dropped from 99% to 1%, making my head feel like it was about to explode.

A chair appeared out of thin air behind Pei Ji, and he sat down lazily. “I heard you refused to take your medicine just to see me?”

That was way too narcissistic!

It was clearly because all those medicines were too bitter.

Although I was injured, I wasn’t human to begin with, and it wasn’t as if I would die.

Not taking medicine would only make me recover a little more slowly. Taking medicine was a fate worse than death.

“You hate taking medicine that much?”

After glancing at me, Pei Ji glanced again at the medicine placed not far away.

The next second, the medicine appeared in his hand. “Drink it.”

I looked at the pitch-black medicine, my expression stiffening. “Can I not? I feel like my injuries are pretty much healed.”

He did not speak. The expression on his face did not look very different from before, aside from the earth-shattering change in Favorability.

Pei Ji looked at me quietly. I took the medicine. “I’ll drink it. I’ll drink it now.”

After finishing the bitter medicine, I looked at the silent Pei Ji. “Pei Ji, wasn’t I supposed to have died back then?”

I had originally wanted to use a fake-death escape in exchange for Favorability, but I hadn’t expected the Favorability to almost be cleared to zero.

Pei Ji glanced at me faintly. I had never been able to guess what he was thinking.

“You want to die that much?”

I just wanted to max out the Favorability and go home.

That was what I called him when we were children. Now that we were grown, following behind him and calling him gege would be so embarrassing.

Could it be that he had remembered the years when he and I depended on each other for survival?

I came back to my senses, just in time to meet Pei Ji’s eyes. I rubbed my nose. It was just calling him gege, right? Maybe if his heart softened, his Favorability would rise.
