Chapter 3

The third time I was transported, my identity was a paperbush flower sprite who had just taken human form, with spiritual power so meager it could only maintain my human shape.

I glanced at Pei Ji on the street corner opposite, then raised my hand and looked at it. For a moment, I was simply speechless.

The current Pei Ji was just an ordinary little vagrant. According to the tropes of the redemption novels I’d read back when I was in school, I should now appear before him, bring him warmth, stand up for him, stay by his side, and slowly earn his trust…

But… judging from the height mark I had just raised my hand to make on the wall, my chubby little hands that looked like lotus-root segments, and the fact that I would trip and fall on flat ground if I walked too fast… all of it was telling me that I was now a tiny bean sprout even shorter than Pei Ji.

Never mind bringing him warmth and the like-if I could walk steadily across this long street without falling, I would want to applaud and praise myself.

I kept calling out to the System in my heart, but after throwing me in here, the System had vanished.

I also tried using my own spiritual power, but that spiritual glow was so faint it was practically the same as having none.

“…”

My feelings were complicated.

I secretly hid in a corner and observed Pei Ji for several days, and discovered that he was living miserably.

At least I was a little spirit born from flowers and plants, so it didn’t matter if I didn’t eat. But at this point, Pei Ji was only an ordinary child.

He had no money and no friends. When he finally received a little food or a few bits of silver from some kindhearted passerby, it would still be snatched away. You could say that just about anyone could bully him.

As an adult on the inside, I couldn’t stand to see something like that happen. I wanted to go out and stop it, but by the time I fell, got back up, took two steps, fell again, and repeated the process until I reached him, it was hard to tell which of us was more wretched.

I lay on the ground and stared wide-eyed at him as he leaned against the wall.

Deep down, I was still somewhat afraid of him. After all, I had already died in front of him twice. Although he was still a child now, he would ultimately become the Demon Lord.

Pei Ji ignored me. Just as he staggered to his feet and was about to leave, I courted death by grabbing his trouser leg.

Meeting the gaze he cast down at me, I subconsciously swallowed. “Big brother?”

That cute, milky little voice startled even me. I hadn’t managed to find a single mirror in this lousy place, either. I only knew that I was a child who couldn’t even walk properly, but as for what exactly I looked like, or how old I appeared to be, I wasn’t sure.

Although I looked like a child right now, my true identity was a corporate slave in her twenties, so I still felt somewhat embarrassed when I opened my mouth.

But after losing face so many times, I stopped caring quite so much.

I quickly formulated a new plan for myself. What bond could be better than childhood sweethearts, innocent childhood companions?

As long as I followed him from childhood and stayed by his side as he grew up, then even if he still fell into demonic corruption later, surely he would trust me deep down… right?

In this spacetime, there were many beings like immortals, demons, and yao beasts, and lifespans were generally quite long. Once I had Trust Points, Favorability should be something I could slowly grind up… right?

It wasn’t that I lacked confidence for no reason. The main thing was that I had never seen anyone as suspicious as Pei Ji.
