“Tell me where Xie Er is, and I’ll let you go.”

Pei Yi’s fierce voice pulled me from my memories.

I gazed into his cold, guarded eyes and laughed softly. “Young Master Pei is certainly devoted. Eight years have passed, and you still can’t stop thinking about my brother.”

“But—you waited so long to look for him. Did you truly believe anyone would be foolish enough to wait eight years for you? My brother has long since…”

I cut myself off, swept him a knowing glance, and fell silent.

The hand around his gun shook violently. The color fled his face. “What happened to Xie Er?”

“Answer me!”

I smiled. “Young Master Pei, if you’re asking a favor, you should act like it.”

“Make me happy, and I might take you to see Xie Er. Keep being so fierce, and grief might make me lose my memory. Then I’ll never remember where my brother lives.”

Pei Yi went rigid, his thin lips pressed into a line. Clearly, my threat had struck home.

“What exactly do you want?”

I tapped the toe of my shoe against the floor and pretended to think. “Kneel.”

Without the slightest hesitation, Pei Yi dropped to his knees. The thud of bone against the floor made my teeth ache.

My face darkened. I stared at him for a long while before tipping up his chin with the toe of my shoe.

“Pei Yi, do you want to see Xie Er because he saved your life, or because you fell for him eight years ago?”

His hands curled into fists as he fought the urge to resist. “That has nothing to do with you. I only want to know where Xie Er is.”

My smile vanished. I merely nodded and said with faint mockery, “How touching that Young Master Pei would go this far for my brother.”

“I’ve just arrived in Bianhai, and I’m short a handsome driver. Work for me for one month. After that, I’ll take you to Xie Er.”

Pei Yi looked up at me coldly. Emotions churned in his eyes, but in the end he did not refuse.

“Fine.”

He knew me well. Neither tenderness nor force worked on me. Unless I chose to speak, not even torture could pry my mouth open.

I raised my hands, signaling him to remove the cuffs. His lips tightened. After several silent seconds, he obeyed.

Satisfied, I patted his cheek. “Clean yourself up tomorrow and pick me up at the hotel. Wear a suit. Make yourself handsome, hmm?”

The car pulled over. I opened the door, and my men immediately climbed out of the car following us.

“Mr. Xie!”

Rubbing my wrists, I waved to Pei Yi without looking back. “See you tomorrow night, Young Master Pei.”

Without waiting for his answer, I limped toward my men’s car.

I tried desperately to even out my gait and conceal my crippled leg. Unfortunately, my good leg had gone numb from sitting. Walking was hard enough, much less pretending everything was normal.

I had no choice but to stop hiding it and let Pei Yi’s gaze linger on my ruined leg.

It burned like needles piercing my flesh.
