The next evening, I had barely stepped out of the hotel when I saw Pei Yi standing beside the car.

He wore a suit, though not properly. His tie hung loose, his shirt gaped wide at the collar, and a black cross pendant rested against the muscles of his chest.

Wild and indecently sexy.

I approached, lifted my sunglasses, and let my gaze slide from his deep-red lips to the shadowed depths below his collar. I whistled and patted his full chest.

“You’ve trained well.”

Pei Yi frowned and slapped my hand away. “Don’t push your luck.”

I smiled, folded my sunglasses, and hooked them over his collar. One temple slid toward the depths I wanted to touch. He tried to dodge, but I caught the glasses and tugged him back.

Leaning close to his ear, I said brightly, “Young Master Pei, if you dress like this for work, I’ll think you’re trying to seduce me.”

His expression changed. “Keep dreaming.”

“I only agreed to be your driver so I could see Xie Er!”

Unconcerned, I gave his chest a squeeze. Soft and springy. Tsk. It would probably feel excellent between my teeth.

I ducked into the car before humiliation drove him to hit me.

“I know, I know. Our devoted Young Master Pei has a heart that belongs to one man. I forced you into this.”

“I’m wicked. I’m terrible. I’m the villain standing between you and Xie Er.”

“I deserve a horrible death.”

“Satisfied? Then drive. Take me to Tonight.”

Tonight was the mob’s headquarters in Bianhai. As a newcomer trying to establish myself in the city, I had to pay my respects to the local powers. I had arranged a gathering that evening and invited every person of consequence.

Whether I entered Bianhai bearing gifts or carrying a gun depended entirely on tonight’s banquet.

When the car stopped outside Tonight, I told Pei Yi, “Let them park. You’re coming with me.”

My accusation of “seduction” had apparently gotten to him. He had buttoned his shirt all the way to the top. The collar hugged his throat beneath his Adam’s apple, lending him a different kind of appeal.

I reached into the car, took out a long box, and opened it to reveal a dark-red tie.

“Come here.”

Hands in his pockets, he frowned and refused to move.

I had to walk over and rise onto my toes to loop the tie around his neck.

“Could you lower your head, Young Master?”

Pei Yi reached for it. “I can tie it myself!”

I yanked hard. He stumbled two steps and nearly crashed into me.

“Be good.”

A tie truly was the finest leash. One tug, and he behaved, frozen where our bodies nearly touched.

Only after I finished the knot did his face darken. He cursed through clenched teeth, “Xie Yi! Stop throwing yourself at me!”

“I’m not like those men you bewitched. Your tricks don’t work on me!”

I had been looking down to straighten my suit, the same shade as his tie. When I raised my head and saw his ears red enough to bleed, I arched a brow.

“What now, my young master? I only tied your tie. Why are you blushing?”
