After I Became the Second Male Lead's Dodder Vine - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I clung to the hem of his robe, drifting in and out of consciousness.
I dreamed of the moment I had first transmigrated here.
Back then, my spiritual awareness had only just awakened. I was so hungry I could hardly bear it, and when I saw a spiritual herb in front of me, I couldn’t stop myself from gnawing on it.
A displeased young voice suddenly came from the side.
“Where did a little demon like you come from? How could you eat the Soul-Soothing Herb I’ve been guarding for months?”
A vast surge of spiritual power poured through my entire body. I came back to my senses and discovered that I had somehow become a dodder vine.
The young man before me wore a robe of pale blue. His features were as lovely as a painting, and he was staring at the immortal herb in my mouth.
I keenly sensed that he was a powerful demon. Though I did not understand why he had only been guarding it instead of eating it, shame still washed over me.
After being human for more than twenty years, I had never imagined that the moment I transmigrated, I would steal someone else’s meal.
I curled up the remaining half of the immortal herb, stretched out a vine, and offered it to his lips. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know it was yours.”
He gave a huff, then took the herb and tossed it into his mouth.
Only later did I learn that Yu Zi’an was an ancient elm tree.
Thick and sturdy. At a glance, he looked perfect for winding around.
I always felt that his name sounded familiar, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not remember why.
A dodder vine demon like me could not cultivate on my own. I could only sign a contract with someone and become a parasitic demon.
Having just secretly eaten his Soul-Soothing Herb, I was too embarrassed to ask to live off him as well, so I left on my own to search for a host.
But the few demons I met one after another had no intention of taking in a parasitic demon. Demon nature was greedy by default. How could they possibly share the spiritual energy they had worked so hard to cultivate with a parasite?
They only wanted to swallow me whole.
After escaping from demon jaws several times, I curled up miserably at the mouth of a cave and fell asleep. When I woke, Yu Zi’an was sitting at the entrance. He held a spiritual herb in his hand, waving it back and forth in front of me to tempt me.
“I’ve lived for several hundred years, and I do rather want a parasitic demon to pass the time. Little demon, do you want to follow me?”
And that was how I became Yu Zi’an’s parasitic demon.
At the end of the dream, Yu Zi’an was smiling as he teased me.
“Little demon, after eating so many of my spiritual herbs, shouldn’t you become my wife once I’ve fattened you up?”
Chapter 3
When I woke from the dream, I heard a woman’s soft, delicate voice. “Zi’an Gege, you’re so good to me. If not for you, I don’t know when I would have been able to take human form.”
I struggled to open my eyes and look over. Before me stood a woman with a rosy, peach-blossom face, carrying the faint fragrance of peach blossoms.
Yu Zi’an’s long lashes lowered, and a faint pink touched his fair face.
I knew him so well. I knew this was what he looked like when he was shy.
Yu Zi’an said, “Yaoyao, take some time to get used to it first. I’ll go back for now…”
Tao Yaoyao interrupted him. “Zi’an Gege, you’re leaving?”
“But I just transformed. I don’t have anyone by my side to rely on. There are so many powerful demons here. I’m so scared.” As she spoke, her expression turned frightened and aggrieved, and she reached out to hook her fingers around Yu Zi’an’s sleeve.
Yu Zi’an quickly patted her back and coaxed her gently. “I’m not leaving. I’ll stay here with you for a few days.”
As if speaking to himself, he said, “Sang Luo is beside my true body. No demon would dare go there. It won’t matter if I return a few days late.”
Tao Yaoyao was overjoyed. Her face was filled with pure, innocent delight as she planted a light kiss on Yu Zi’an’s cheek.
Then her gaze shifted and landed on me. “Huh? Why is there still a piece of grass stuck here?”
She reached out and brushed me off.
I already had only a single breath left in me.
Now, I did not even have the strength to call Yu Zi’an’s name.
The wind blew, and I drifted down over the cliff.
Faintly, I heard Yu Zi’an’s puzzled voice.
“Just now… why did it feel like Sang Luo’s aura was here?”
“It was only a little blade of grass. Zi’an Gege, don’t overthink it.”
