After My Beastman Husband Lost His Memory - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Because of the commotion before leaving the house, I arrived at the meeting place a little late.
Considering we needed to review the divorce agreement first, Lin Yi had arranged for us to meet at a coffee shop right in front of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
As I stepped into the cafe, I couldn’t help but shudder.
Even when suppressed, the pressure of an S-level Beastman was still terrifying. It felt as if I were being stared down by some horrific predator-a bone-chilling fear.
The customers in the shop were all trembling. Some of the more timid Beastmen had even been forced into their original forms, their long, snowy-white ears drooping as they huddled in corners, shaking.
A Beastman of Huo Xiao’s caliber rarely appeared in public. His pressure was too heavy; even if he did nothing, he exerted an overwhelming force on lower-ranked Beastmen. It was like a puppy encountering a lion-even if the lion were locked in a cage, the puppy’s legs would still turn to jelly.
Add to that the fact that he hadn’t fully recovered… that aura, tinged with the scent of blood, was even more frightening.
I hurriedly quickened my pace. Walking to a corner, I spoke softly to the man sitting by the window.
“Mr. Huo.”
Huo Xiao was sitting by the window, wearing a simple shirt with his uniform jacket draped loosely over the back of the sofa beside him. He was leaning back in a relaxed posture, idly fiddling with his smart bracelet.
Hearing my voice, he indifferently lifted his eyelids.
“Miss Sang, being late isn’t a very good habit…”
The moment he saw me, his body seemed to jolt. He slowly sat up straight.
“…W-Wife?”
I lowered my head with a hint of guilt, tucking a stray lock of hair behind my ear. I apologized in a small voice, “Sorry, I’m late.”
Huo Xiao’s breath hitched for a moment. His eyes seemed a bit glazed.
“…It’s, it’s fine.”
“I arrived too early.”
I sat down across from Huo Xiao and took the drafted divorce agreement out of my bag, pushing it toward him.
“Husband… Mr. Huo.”
“This is the agreement I had a lawyer draft earlier. Please take a look and see if there’s anything that needs changing.”
After speaking, I closed my eyes in embarrassment. Beneath the table, I was curling my toes so hard I could have dug out a whole apartment.
…This was so awkward.
Why did I call him ‘husband’?
The man has amnesia and doesn’t want to see you at all. The first thing he wanted to do upon meeting was get a divorce, yet you still called him ‘husband’.
After a brief internal struggle, I belatedly realized the silence in the air. I slowly raised my eyes and tentatively looked at Huo Xiao.
The man seemed very busy. His lips were slightly pursed, and his fingers were flying across his screen as if he were discussing official business. From time to time, his eyes would flick toward the divorce agreement on the table.
I whispered, “…Mr. Huo?”
After a beat, Huo Xiao slowly looked at me, his pupils out of focus. “…Miss Sang.”
I gave an awkward smile and asked tentatively, “Um, are you a bit busy? Then let’s get the procedures done as quickly as possible.”
“Also, are you dissatisfied with the terms of the agreement? It’s okay, we can just split the marital assets down the middle.”
Huo Xiao: “…”
Huo Xiao’s face grew paler by the second. His well-defined fingers clenched and unclenched for no apparent reason.
“I…” Huo Xiao gritted his teeth. “Actually…”
I blinked, looking at him in confusion. Huo Xiao’s state didn’t seem quite right. Maybe it was because his body still hadn’t recovered.
Thinking of Lin Yi’s request, I hesitated for a moment before speaking softly.
“Mr. Huo, no matter how busy work is, you should still look after your health.”
“Otherwise, the people who care about you will worry.”
Huo Xiao’s eyes gradually lit up.
“Really… someone would… worry about me?”
What a thing to say. Lin Yi is a person too, isn’t he?
I nodded and spoke gently. “Yes, so you must take good care of yourself.”
“Shall we go get the divorce certificate now?”
Huo Xiao suddenly stood up with a start. His face was deathly pale.
“…My apologies, Miss Sang. The Alliance suddenly has urgent business for me. I have to go.”
I looked up, dazed. “Huh? Is it that urgent? Why don’t we get the certificate first? It’ll be very quick…”
Huo Xiao hurriedly muttered another apology, turned, and rushed away. His pace was so fast it was as if a ghost were chasing him.
Me: “…”
Now what? This afternoon, I had also conveniently scheduled a blind date with a Cat Beastman.
For the sake of a bright future, I had planned to set up several dates with different Beastmen, meet them one by one, and pick the best one. I figured I’d go straight to the blind date after getting the divorce papers-no time wasted.
But now…
Without the divorce certificate in hand, should I still go to the meeting?
Would that be inappropriate?
