Chapter 2

“Yangyang has made progress.”

He straightened my shoes and socks for me.

“There’s a minor secret realm opening in a few days. I’ll take you.”

“I’ll go by myself.”

Chu Yanhan withdrew his hand, rubbing his fingertips together.

“It’s too dangerous.”

“It’s not like I’m a child.”

I muttered under my breath.

“Last night, you were flying on your sword when your spiritual power ran out halfway through. You fell out of the sky and smashed Danding Peak’s medicinal field.”

And it had been someone’s final project, no less.

The gorgeous male cultivator had cried and kicked up a fuss, demanding an explanation from me.

I had humbly asked how I should compensate him, but his face had gone red instead.

After taking a trace of my spiritual power, he let me leave.

My face heated up, and I argued, “I did apologize.”

“So that’s why Shen Qingke came looking for me this morning…”

He seemed to realize something.

“I’ll make a trip to Danding Peak.”

Chu Yanhan casually picked up Snow Clearing.

“Yangyang, stay on Taixu Peak. Don’t go anywhere.”

His tone was calm. “I’ll go spar with Chief Shen.”

Chapter 4

I watched helplessly as Chu Yanhan’s white robes fluttered and he turned into a streak of light.

Those few lines of tiny text were still jumping before my eyes.

[Holy crap, with that killing intent coming off Chu Yanhan, Shen Qingke is in danger.]

[Is she your sister or what? Why are you raising her with so much enthusiasm?]

[You guys don’t get it. This is called knowing your enemy. He’s keeping someone else’s Achilles’ heel in his grasp. Look at Chi Yang now-aside from eating, drinking, and having fun, she can’t do anything. She’s ruined.]

[As expected of the male lead on the Path of Ruthlessness.]

A shiver ran through me.

Ruined.

I hugged my knees and buried my face in my arms.

I had recognized the wrong brother.

Before my mother died, she called me to her bedside.

By then, she was already terribly ill, but when she gripped my hand, her strength was shockingly great.

“Yangyang, go to the Myriad Sword Sect and find your brother.”

“He left home when you were very little. Such a tiny thing, yet he always kept a stern little face.”

“He said he was going to become the strongest sword cultivator and protect us.”

When she mentioned my brother, a wistful look appeared on Mother’s face.

“The immortal master said Erniu had extraordinary talent. He’ll definitely become someone important one day.”

I was only twelve back then.

I cried my eyes out and could only nod.

After burying my mother, I took the few low-grade spirit stones I had left and set off on the road to find my family.

Chapter 5

The spirit stones were only enough to teleport me to the market town at the foot of the mountain.

I followed the steep mountain path upward, so hungry I was dizzy and seeing stars.

Halfway there, I came across a young man in white, covered in blood.

He was leaning on his sword, sitting on a bluestone as he caught his breath.

“Who’s there?”

The young man swept me with a cold glance.

He wore a stern expression.

I swallowed and fixed my gaze on the sword in his hand.

Two crooked ancient seal-script characters were engraved on the hilt.

I couldn’t read, but those two characters were all horizontal and vertical strokes. No matter how I looked at them, they looked like “Erniu.”

“Brother!”

I dropped to my knees with a thud, hugged his thigh, and burst into loud sobs.

“Mother’s gone! I finally found you, Brother Erniu!”

“I’m your little sister!”

The young man’s body went rigid.

“Little sister… what is that?”

It was over. My brother had gone stupid!

I cried even harder, smearing tears and snot all over his outer robe.

“You’re the only family I have left! Mother said you would protect me!”

The blood-soaked young man lowered his eyes.

He stared at me for a very long time.

“All right,” he said slowly.

Only later did I learn that, on that day, Chu Yanhan had just fought his way out of a secret realm.

He had cleared the entire realm by himself. Most of the blood on him belonged to demonic beasts, and a small part was his own.
