After Transmigrating, I Became the Male Lead's Jellyfish - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I followed the path east for a long time, and the seawater seemed to grow shallower and shallower.
Along the way, I found a pale blue backpack. Then I carefully picked out pretty conches and seashells, pink coral flowers, and oddly shaped stones, packing them away neatly so I could give them to my Owner when I found him.
The surviving humans had gathered on Earth’s final piece of land.
I wasn’t sure whether I could leave the water, so I cautiously swam upward and reached one hand above the surface. No pain came, so I climbed ashore, dripping wet.
The translucence of my body had faded quite a bit too. The only inconvenient part was that I didn’t seem to be as agile as I was in the sea.
Because the human population had plummeted, I hadn’t run into a single human while traveling. But not long after I came ashore, I encountered a small group of them. There were men and women among them, guarding the food piled on a fishing net. When I asked for directions, they exchanged looks.
“You want to go to the Base?” The man in the lead let out a mocking laugh when he heard me. “Do you have any idea how dangerous the road there is? Besides, why would the Base take you in? Plenty of people want to get into the Base and can’t!”
He was about to say more when the woman beside him quietly nudged him. Then she turned to me with a pleasant smile and said, “Why don’t you come with us? We’re headed there too. We can keep each other company on the road.”
I nodded obediently. “Okay.”
Late that night, beside the campfire.
Faint voices drifted from behind the forest.
“You pig-brained idiot! Didn’t you see she’s all alone? If she managed to survive and make it all the way here, there has to be something good in that bag of hers.
“Besides, do you know how much gold a woman like that can sell for on the black market these days? Maybe it’d even be enough to buy a Base access card outright!”
“Then we’ll starve her on purpose until she has no strength left, and sell her after that…”
In the wind, two pairs of greedy eyes simultaneously sized up the sweetly sleeping girl.
By now, this place had become a human settlement built around the Base. The Base provided a certain amount of aid to all humans, such as medical care and food, but not everyone was allowed to live inside it.
Only those who passed the Base’s assessment could become a member of the “Base.”
The next morning, we set off for the Base without even eating breakfast.
Along the way, that older sister introduced herself as “Liu Bai” and kept chatting with me.
“What are you going to the Base for? How did you get here?”
I had wanted to say I was going to the Base to find my Keeper, but I was afraid of exposing the fact that I was a Little Jellyfish, so I racked my brain and answered, “I… I’m going to find my guardian. I swam here by myself.”
Liu Bai muttered to herself that this girl couldn’t even lie properly. As if anyone could swim across such dangerous waters. What a joke.
What an idiot.
“What’s in that bag of yours? Why don’t I carry it for you? It looks pretty heavy.”
I patted my little bag, very proud of myself. “No need. These are my treasures.”
If my Owner knew I’d found so many pretty flowers and stones, he would definitely be very happy.
“…”
“Oh, right, Liu Bai, how old are you? Where do you usually spend your time?” I blinked and started asking questions curiously too.
