Annihilating the Gods - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
This was the second year of the great drought that had gripped the mortal realm. The farmland yielded not a single grain, and starving refugees were scattered everywhere.
With no other choice, I used the blood of the Human Emperor to summon the Rain God at the altar, begging him to send rain.
When my blood had filled in the entire ritual inscription, a sudden boom rang out from the heavens. A golden, awe-inspiring pressure descended upon everyone, so overwhelming that no one dared look directly at it.
Then an ethereal divine voice rang out: “Who dares summon this Rain God?”
I raised my head in delighted surprise and, sure enough, saw an elegant, extraordinary man standing atop the clouds, a divine weapon in hand.
I hurriedly led the people of the mortal realm to kneel and welcome him. “We respectfully welcome the Rain God. I am Dong Dai, Emperor of the Human Race. I humbly beseech the Rain God to send rain and save the people of the Human Race.”
The Rain God said nothing more. With a sweep of his long sleeve, thunder suddenly shook the heavens, and torrential rain instantly poured down upon the mortal realm, soaking every inch of its parched, starving land.
The masses, dark as a storm cloud, erupted in frenzied joy.
“It’s raining…”
“It’s finally raining!”
I was just about to thank the Rain God when another overwhelming pressure suddenly descended from the heavens.
A female immortal appeared out of nowhere.
Her face flushed with anger. “Songqiu, you don’t love me at all. I’m already angry, and you still won’t come comfort me. All you know how to do is send rain! Then from now on, you can stay with these people. Don’t come looking for me again!”
With that, she turned and left in a huff.
Songqiu hurriedly stopped casting the spell and grabbed the female immortal by the arm. “Ji Qing, listen to me. Fairy Congrong and I truly have nothing going on. You’ve misunderstood us.”
“Hmph! It’s too late for explanations now. From this day forward, you and I are through!”
The female immortal flung his hand away, mounted the clouds, and departed without sparing him another glance.
Songqiu hurriedly tried to pursue her, but I held him back with the ritual inscription. “Lord Rain God, your rain has not finished falling yet.”
Songqiu, however, raised his hand and shattered my ritual inscription. He said arrogantly, “How could mere humans compare with the woman I love? Once I have won Ji Qing’s forgiveness, I will return to deal with the affairs of your mortal realm.”
And just like that, the people of the mortal realm and I were abandoned by the god we worshiped and supported.
When the people came to their senses, they all wailed and cried out as though they had gone mad.
They were not merely mourning their own suffering. They were mourning the loved ones who had died in the great drought, and mourning the fact that, despite worshiping the gods every day without fail, they had ultimately been abandoned by them.
Seeing my people in such anguish, I was filled with fury.
The members of the God Clan enjoyed the mortal realm’s offerings and relied on the Human Race’s faith to grow stronger, allowing them to ride the clouds and pursue an immortal life.
Yet once they had grown powerful, they cast aside the humans who had nourished them as though we were worthless, never offering us even the slightest protection.
If that was how things were, then we no longer needed gods!
